Michael and Linda wanted a kitchen that was:
Optimized for the space. Michael and Linda’s kitchen is long and narrow, but it also had 16’ high ceilings. There were also some changes that could be made to the kitchen blueprint. Ultimately, after considering many options they decided to move the sink and refrigerator.
Easy to navigate. The old kitchen had peninsula that ate up a lot of space. Removing that, and being thoughtful about workzones and storage, would solve the traffic flow issues.
Full of storage. An awkward kitchen can still store a lot of stuff. The solution in this awkward kitchen was to go vertical and shallow with cabinets.

We turned a long awkward office space into a home bar for the homeowners to entertain in.

Out went the “Box Store” cabinets and laminate counters, as well as the awkward wall that shoved the refrigerator into an odd corner. At our suggestion, the client switched the locations of the family room and the dining room, placing the dining room now as part of the kitchen and allowing for much better flow. The old layout was replaced with a much more workable “L” shape, augmented by a spacious island.
The microwave relocated from over the range to a much better placement in the island, enabled us to include a beautiful hood, creating a lovely focal point. Painted Mouser cabinets and granite countertops complete the look. Now the kitchen functions much more efficiently and looks fabulous!

A Vacant Staging - This front entry opened directly into the formal living room and the stairway. This traditional style home was designed to appeal to the higher end buyer for this traditional neighborhood. But it needed to be staged to appeal to the younger buyer looking for a more modern feel to a traditional space.

"I cannot say enough good things about the Innovative Construction team and work product.
They remodeled our water-damaged, 1930s basement, and exceeded all of our expectations - before and after photos simply cannot do this project justice. The original basement included an awkward staircase in an awkward location, one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen and small living space. We had a difficult time imagining that it could be much more than that. Innovative Construction's design team was creative, and thought completely out of the box. They relocated the stairwell in a way we did not think was possible, opening up the basement to reconfigure the bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, living space, but also adding an office and finished storage room. The end result is as functional as it is beautiful.
As with all construction, particularly a renovation of an old house, there will be inconveniences, it will be messy, and plenty of surprises behind the old walls. The Innovative Construction team maintained a clean and safe work site for 100% of the project, with minimal disruption to our daily lives, even when there was a large hole cut into our main living room floor to accommodate new stairs down to the basement. The team showed creativity and an eye for design when working around some of the unexpected "character" revealed when opening the walls.
The team effectively uses technology to keep everyone on the same page about changes, requests, schedules, contracts, invoices, etc. Everyone is friendly, competent, helpful, and responsive. I felt heard throughout the process, and my requests were responded to quickly and thoroughly. I recommend Innovative Construction without reservation."

Occupied Staging - This family room is very long and narrow. The half wall separates the breakfast area from the step down family room. Pulling the love seat away from the wall allows for an open feel while giving ample room for traffic to move behind the couch and interact with friends and family in both rooms.

We really enjoyed collaborating with Michael and Linda on their IKEA kitchen design. Together we came up with a really functional solution for their awkward kitchen. VEDDINGE doors and BLANKETT handles keep the kitchen looking streamlined, too.
Michael and Linda centered the undermount sink on the window and planned the cabinets around it. And we’re pleased to say the kitchen redesign has more cabinets than the previous kitchen, without sacrificing aesthetics.

Vacant Staging - This small wall situated between a breakfast area and the sliding glass doors of the family room also looked straight down the main hallway of the house. With such an open floor plan we chose an accent table that serves as an additional surface for entertaining purposes. We added a mirror above creating visual interest and reflecting additional light in the space.

This remodel consisted of a whole house transformation. We took this 3 bedroom dated home and turned it into a 5 bedroom award winning showpiece, all without an addition. By reworking the awkward floor plan and lowering the living room floor to be level with the rest of the house we were able to create additional space within the existing footprint of the home. What was once the small lack-luster master suite, is now 2 kids bedrooms that share a jack and jill bath. The master suite was relocated to the first floor, and the kitchen that was located right at the front door, is now located in the back of the home with great access to the patio overlooking the golf course.

Previously renovated with a two-story addition in the 80’s, the home’s square footage had been increased, but the current homeowners struggled to integrate the old with the new.
An oversized fireplace and awkward jogged walls added to the challenges on the main floor, along with dated finishes. While on the second floor, a poorly configured layout was not functional for this expanding family.
From the front entrance, we can see the fireplace was removed between the living room and dining rooms, creating greater sight lines and allowing for more traditional archways between rooms.
At the back of the home, we created a new mudroom area, and updated the kitchen with custom two-tone millwork, countertops and finishes. These main floor changes work together to create a home more reflective of the homeowners’ tastes.
On the second floor, the master suite was relocated and now features a beautiful custom ensuite, walk-in closet and convenient adjacency to the new laundry room.

An awkward space can provide plenty of opportunities for storage. Using products from The Container Store like the Elfa Overdoor Rack, white storage bins with handles, Expand-a-shelf risers for cans, and other intentionally selected storage containers, we were able to maximize the space in this small pantry. Every kitchen organization project we do includes purging of unwanted/expired items, removal of items for donation/recycling/selling, space planning, product sourcing and purchasing, and then organizing each space for maximum functionality. Working with a professional organizer for your home organization projects reduces stress and allows you to focus on what you do best while ensuring your goals for your spaces are met!

A full, custom kitchen remodel turned a once-dated and awkward layout into a spacious modern farmhouse kitchen with crisp black and white contrast, double islands, a walk-in pantry and ample storage.
