Custom mudroom in a completed addition to a split-level home in Teaneck, NJ by WA Construct — built-in L-shaped bench with shoe cubbies below, beadboard backing, coat hooks, upper shelf, and herringbone wood-look tile flooring. Design-build custom home builder serving Bergen County.

This young family moved to a lake community full time during Covid. They then wanted to allow the home to become a true year round home over the former weekend house. They wanted to open up the kitchen to allow views from the sink and new island to the views of the lake outside of the living area.
The homeowner also wanted an desk area for herself and a walk in pantry. I also took 10' out of their huge garage area and created a large mudroom and laundry room. The staircase was hidden behind a bookcase wall, not at all ideal with two young children up there. I opened that all up right off of the back end of the kitchen. Their house now flows much better and they love their new spaces!

A beautifully organized entryway space makes every day better. Our custom solutions make it so no one loses anything, leaving home is a breeze, and getting home fills you with more joy than ever before!

Mudrooms are practical entryway spaces that serve as a buffer between the outdoors and the main living areas of a home. Typically located near the front or back door, mudrooms are designed to keep the mess of the outside world at bay.
These spaces often feature built-in storage for coats, shoes, and accessories, helping to maintain a tidy and organized home. Durable flooring materials, such as tile or easy-to-clean surfaces, are common in mudrooms to withstand dirt and moisture.
Additionally, mudrooms may include benches or cubbies for convenient seating and storage of bags or backpacks. With hooks for hanging outerwear and perhaps a small sink for quick cleanups, mudrooms efficiently balance functionality with the demands of an active household, providing an essential transitional space in the home.

Rather than a closed off pantry, there is now a mud room area just off the kitchen. These custom mud room cabinets are a great catch-all and function as a nice transition from the garage to the kitchen and living space.

Custom cabinetry and special storage bench built into the stairway make for an unusually efficient and beautiful mud room. Don Pearse Photographers Inc.

Designed to support both daily family life and the occasional arrival of clients, this built-in bench gives the converted front porch a comfortable secondary purpose as a waiting area. Concealed storage below keeps shoes and entry essentials out of sight, while a custom leather cushion and patterned pillows soften the streamlined cabinetry. Walnut paneling, porcelain tile and simple roller shades complete the practical yet welcoming entrance.

The custom entryway design blends style and function with a built-in bench, storage cubbies, and brass hardware details. A navy accent wall adds depth, while neutral cabinetry and soft textiles keep the look bright and inviting. Thoughtfully designed for a busy family, this entry sets the tone for the rest of the home.
