The original kitchen had a peninsula that blocked access and views to the back deck. Adding a few extra feet across the back of the house allowed for a better connection to the new deck and dining room. Enclosing the small balcony allowed us to add square footage to the house. Kitchen Renovation: layout modification and aesthetic upgrades. Cabinets: Rustic Cherry Natural Counter tops: Golden Supreme Granite Back splash: Rittenhouse square bisquit Appliances: Samsung Black Stainless This was a traditional ranch style home with a small kitchen that lacked counter top space and had a cramped dining room that blocked access to the garage and back patio. The renovation focused on creating better flow, opening up the walkways, increasing storage and was upgraded to our aesthetic taste. The island incorporates dining seating for up to 5 while also providing storage for the Microwave, Trash/Recycling and Storage for dog food/board games. We designed a custom hood surround to fit within our limited ceiling height. This simple design added character and visual interest to a simple space plan. Full height pantry storage was added on the end of the kitchen by the patio doors, leaving just enough room before the garage door for the dog food bowls. Electrical was upgraded for the whole space, going from 2 outlets in the kitchen to 7 has increased the usability of the space. A USB outlet was added to the end of the island so that people can charge their phones. Prior to the renovation there was a lack of lighting, we added can lights and an island pendant to increase visibility for prep.

The desk was not used as a desk and wasting valuable storage space. We remedied the layout, removed the raise bar, updated the space, and added ALL the accent lighting!

This appliance garage is 18" deep. By using finger-holes instead of knobs, the lower section can be kept in its raised position without blocking access to the doors above.

This existing desk was in the Master Suite. Unfortunately, it blocked access to the beautiful beachfront balcony. The glass was custom cut to fit perfectly on this angled wall in the Den, where it provides function and style.

Karen Berkemeyer redesigned the heart of this beautiful Ridgefield home to have a better flow in and out of the kitchen, which was previously obstructed by a large peninsula blocking access to the side patio. Working around the two columns in the island was a challenge; Karen tackled this with a Corian concrete material which allowed for the countertop to seamlessly wrap around each column. The island also contained a raised wood-stained section for seating. In order to create a more functional cooking space, the range top and double ovens were moved closer together and counter space was added on both sides. The star of this kitchen is the stunning scallop mosaic backsplash in a glimmering 1/8″ thick rivershell, reflecting back natural light from the above skylights. The kitchen was designed with Pioneer beaded inset custom cabinetry in pearl white.
