A DEANE client returned in 2022 for an update to their kitchen remodel project from 2006. This incredible transformation was driven by the desire to create a glamorous space for both cooking and entertaining. The frameless cabinetry with a mitered door and satin brass hardware is deliberately understated to highlight the marble. Dramatic and bold, the continuous, book-matched Panda White marble was used throughout the open footprint, including the fireplace surround, to give the space a cohesive feel. The custom, tapered hood, also covered in Panda White is a commanding centerpiece. The expansive space allowed for two waterfall-edge islands with mitered countertops - one for cooking with black-stained oak cabinets for storage and a prep sink, and the second to seat 6 for dining, which replaced the original informal eating area. A tray ceiling with wallpaper detailing elegantly frames both together.
No detail was overlooked in the design process. A coffee station with retractable doors and beverage drawers was situated to graciously welcome guests. A Wolf 60” range, walnut interiors, customized drawer inserts, unlacquered brass finishes and a Galley Workstation elevate this kitchen into a truly sophisticated space.

Everyone needs a little space of their own. Whether it’s a cozy reading nook for a busy mom to curl up in at the end of a long day, a quiet corner of a living room for an artist to get inspired, or a mancave where die-hard sports fans can watch the game without distraction. Even Emmy-award winning “This Is Us” actor Sterling K. Brown was feeling like he needed a place where he could go to be productive (as well as get some peace and quiet). Sterling’s Los Angeles house is home to him, his wife, and two of their two sons – so understandably, it can feel a little crazy.
Sterling reached out to interior designer Kyle Schuneman of Apt2B to help convert his garage into a man-cave / office into a space where he could conduct some of his day-to-day tasks, run his lines, or just relax after a long day. As Schuneman began to visualize Sterling’s “creative workspace”, he and the Apt2B team reached out Paintzen to make the process a little more colorful.
The room was full of natural light, which meant we could go bolder with color. Schuneman selected a navy blue – one of the season’s most popular shades (especially for mancaves!) in a flat finish for the walls. The color was perfect for the space; it paired well with the concrete flooring, which was covered with a blue-and-white patterned area rug, and had plenty of personality. (Not to mention it makes a lovely backdrop for an Emmy, don’t you think?)
Schuneman’s furniture selection was done with the paint color in mind. He chose a bright, bold sofa in a mustard color, and used lots of wood and metal accents throughout to elevate the space and help it feel more modern and sophisticated. A work table was added – where we imagine Sterling will spend time reading scripts and getting work done – and there is plenty of space on the walls and in glass-faced cabinets, of course, to display future Emmy’s in the years to come. However, the large mounted TV and ample seating in the room means this space can just as well be used hosting get-togethers with friends.
We think you’ll agree that the final product was stunning. The rich navy walls paired with Schuneman’s decor selections resulted in a space that is smart, stylish, and masculine. Apt2B turned a standard garage into a sleek home office and Mancave for Sterling K. Brown, and our team at Paintzen was thrilled to be a part of the process.

This transitional light and bright office with custom white built in cabinets elevate the space here. This room was their Living Room before and we enclosed the space, added doors and new flooring and it became the home office right off the entry.

Reclaimed wood timber posts and header beams in warm gray brown weathered tones with deep checking frame this luxury basement golf simulator and man cave, bringing warmth, texture, and material character to a space that could easily feel cold and utilitarian. The reclaimed wood framing alone is enough to transform the entire feel of the room.
This install shows how reclaimed wood timber framing elevates luxury recreational spaces including golf simulators, home theaters, and game rooms into high character destination spaces. At Manomin Resawn Timbers, every piece goes through a detailed process of denailing, kiln drying, and precision milling so that antique character is preserved while performing beautifully in any application.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, or a homeowner looking to bring reclaimed wood into a basement, golf simulator, or luxury recreational space, Manomin Resawn Timbers has been helping people discover the antique charm of reclaimed wood since 2002. We serve homebuilders, contractors, and designers across the country. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message to get started.

Some of the finishes, fixtures and decor have a contemporary feel, but overall with the inclusion of stone and a few more traditional elements, the interior of this home features a transitional design-style. Double entry doors lead into a large open floor-plan with a spiral staircase and loft area overlooking the great room. White wood tile floors are found throughout the main level and the large windows on the rear elevation of the home offer a beautiful view of the property and outdoor space.
This home is perfect for entertaining with the large open space in the great room, kitchen and dining. A stone archway separates the great room from the kitchen and dining. The kitchen brings more technology into the home with smart appliances. A very comfortable, well-spaced kitchen, large island and two sinks makes cooking for large groups a breeze.

Inspiration for a small contemporary single-wall medium tone wood floor eat-in kitchen remodel in New York with flat-panel cabinets, light wood cabinets, marble countertops, metal backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and a farmhouse sink
Inspiration for a small contemporary single-wall medium tone wood floor eat-in kitchen remodel in New York with flat-panel cabinets, light wood cabinets, marble countertops, metal backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and a farmhouse sink

Designer: Paul Dybdahl
Photographer: Shanna Wolf
Designer’s Note: One of the main project goals was to develop a kitchen space that complimented the homes quality while blending elements of the new kitchen space with the homes eclectic materials.
Japanese Ash veneers were chosen for the main body of the kitchen for it's quite linear appeals. Quarter Sawn White Oak, in a natural finish, was chosen for the island to compliment the dark finished Quarter Sawn Oak floor that runs throughout this home.
The west end of the island, under the Walnut top, is a metal finished wood. This was to speak to the metal wrapped fireplace on the west end of the space.
A massive Walnut Log was sourced to create the 2.5" thick 72" long and 45" wide (at widest end) living edge top for an elevated seating area at the island. This was created from two pieces of solid Walnut, sliced and joined in a book-match configuration.
The homeowner loves the new space!!
