This Project included bringing an 18 year old pond back to life. We began this project by dismantling the existing pond and removing all rocks, gravel, liner and catching the fish and frogs and stored them in a safe aeration tank during the construction of the new pond. We ran into a ton of cement blocks from the existing pond which were a nightmare to remove, but none the less we prevailed. After everything was removed we shaped up the the soil for the new pond installation. A fabric underlayment is first installed beneath the liner to protect it. A new 45 mil fish safe epdm liner was installed on top and we then began to rock in the pond using larger rocks so that kids can enter safely and access for pond plant maintenance. Shelves were installed at different elevations for aquatic plants. The skimmer installation makes for easier pond maintenance and to keep the pond pump free from pond debris. An overflow was plumbed from the skimmer to the downspout to allow the pond to take on rain water and dewater more cleanly. A biofalls filtration unit was installed on the top pond to filter the system and is also the upper waterfall area that aims towards the dining room window for viewing from inside the home and upper patio area. What an amazing transformation.

Spacious Modern White Design Brings New Light to Busy Kitchen For this busy family of Mclean, Virginia, converting a limited kitchen space to a modern kitchen space was a much desired and necessary upgrade. This kitchen space was limited by an adjacent laundry room and family room walls. By relocating the laundry room to the second floor, extra space opened up for the remodeled modern kitchen. Removal of the bearing wall between the kitchen and family room, allowed an increase of daylight into both spaces. The small windows of the previous kitchen and laundry room were replaced with a large picture window to allow maximum daylight to shine from the south side. Relocating the stove from the old island to a back wall and replacing the older island with a beautiful custom stained island provided extra seating capacity and expanded counter space for serving and cooking uses. Added to this gorgeous prize-winning kitchen were double stacked classic white cabinetry with glass display cabinets, along with lots of direct and indirect lighting and gorgeous pendant lights. A 48-inch gas oven range and large scale appliances contributed to this stunning modern kitchen space. New hardwood flooring with espresso low gloss finish created an endless look to the entire first floor space. Life is now grand with this new spacious kitchen space.

We encouraged natural light to stream in through the larger windows and bounce around the bright colored walls and cabinetry. Contemporary glam meets moody blue hues in this Denver kitchen designed by Rivington Marx Interiors. The sleek, chic, saturated in blue luxury kitchen features a dreamy herringbone to the ceiling tile backsplash that is the dramatic backdrop for sleek cabinetry. A custom black and brass-trimmed range hood brings warmth, lighted glass-front cabinets are like artwork, and oversized white drum pendants add a soft, modern contrast. It's a kitchen masterpiece in form and function, the definition of elevated elegance, where rich color married refined design.

Bringing the outdoors in and letting ample light flood the room, this window back splash was the perfect opportunity to do so. Stainless Steel undermounted sinks allow a clean look next to the white easy to clean quartz counter top. A built up flamed black absolute granite adds texture and creates an informal eat-in kitchen space.

Our clients were looking to erase the 90s from their master bathroom and create a space that blended their contemporary tastes with natural elements. This bathroom had wonderful bones with a high ceiling and plenty of space, but we were able to work with our clients to create a design that better met their needs and utilized the space to its full potential. We wanted to create a sense of warmth in this large master bathroom and adding a fireplace to the space did the trick. By moving the tub location, we were able to create a stunning accent wall of stacked stone that provided a home for the fireplace and a perfectly dramatic backdrop for the new freestanding bathtub. The sculptural copper light fixture helps to soften the stone wall and allowed us to emphasize those vaulted ceiling. Playing with metal finishes is one of our favorite pastimes, and this bathroom was the perfect opportunity to blend sleek matte black plumbing fixtures with a mirrored copper finish on the light fixtures. We tied the vanity wall sconces in with a dramatic sculptural chandelier above the bath tub by using copper finishes on both and allowing the light fixtures to be the shining stars of this space. We selected a clean white finish for the custom vanity cabinets and lit them from below to accentuate their floating design. We then completed the look with a waterfall quartz counter to add an elegant texture to the area and extended the stone onto the shower bench to bring the two elements together. The existing shower had been on the small side, so we expanded it into the room and gave them a more spacious shower complete with a built-in bench and recessed niche. Hard surfaces play an important role in any bathroom design, and we wanted to use this opportunity to create an interesting layer of texture through our tile selections. The bathroom floor utilizes a large-scale plank tile installed in a herringbone pattern, while the shower and walls are tiled in a polished white tile to add a bit of reflectivity. The newly transformed bathroom is now a sophisticated space the brings together sleek contemporary finishes with textured natural elements and provides the perfect retreat from the outside world.

The design of this dining room is informal and colorful. The mix of the patterned teal side chairs and the solid teal end chairs create an interesting layering in the space, especially coupled with the teal ceiling. The walls are beige to balance out the bold color and the artwork is the finishing element to bring all of the pieces together. A custom floral centerpiece adorns the reclaimed wood table to add life and the contemporary crystal chandelier brings a bit of glam to the space. Who wouldn't fall in love with the Water Street building, and the elegant industrial vibe? The light that floods in through the floor-to-ceiling windows makes this a perfect spot to entertain and host friends from California or adult kids who visit. We knocked down a wall to open the kitchen, and added modern furnishings punctuated by splashes of deep orangey-red. High contrast and lots of rich textures can be found throughout this urban loft. Clean and classic exterior with textural elements. 2010 A-List Award for Best Home Remodel Originally the interior of the house consisted of small, dark rooms, low ceilings and dyed in the wool traditional furnishings. Recognizing the “solid bones” of the house the couple embarked on a renovation to expand the living space, reconfigure existing rooms and bring light into the structure. The overarching plan was to bring fresh, modern, sustainable materials to use in every room. This would create a unique contrast to traditional materials like dry stacked stone and reclaimed wood floors and ceilings. A subtle play of unexpected textures is apparent throughout the house.
