The Yellowstone Club, America’s most exclusive ski resort, is located in Big Sky, Montana and is a playground for the outdoor enthusiast who enjoys luxury. Centre Sky Architecture renovated the mid-mountain Rainbow Lodge from 5,000 square feet to almost 14,000 square feet. The original lodge had a heavy emphasis on a traditional feel, touting log walls and trusses and boasting the log cabin feel. The color scheme went to grey and beige tones, lightening the interior. Floating staircase transitions from downstairs to upstairs. Clear glass panels run the length of the staircase, complementing the open-concept style of the stair treads. Glass railing also secures the upper balcony, while glass clips keep the panels stable.

This new 6400 s.f. two-story split-level home lifts upward and orients toward unobstructed views of Windy Hill. The deep overhanging flat roof design with a stepped fascia preserves the classic modern lines of the building while incorporating a Zero-Net Energy photovoltaic panel system. From start to finish, the construction is uniformly energy efficient and follows California Build It Green guidelines.
