We had a tight timeline to turn a dark, outdated kitchen into a modern, family-friendly space that could function as the hub of the home. We enlarged the footprint of the kitchen by changing the orientation and adding an island for better circulation. We swapped out old tile flooring for durable luxury vinyl tiles, dark wood panels for fresh drywall, outdated cabinets with modern Semihandmade ones, and added brand new appliances. We made it modern and warm by adding matte tiles from Heath, new light fixtures, and an open shelf of beautiful ceramics in cool neutrals.

We were asked to achieve modern-day functionality and style while preserving the architectural character of this Victorian home built in 1900. The colorful tile behind the vanity is stained wood and gives the impression of nautical flags. Shiplap walls are the perfect detail in our coastal cottage. The ceilings were stained turquoise to bring your eye upward, showing off the new height of the cilings. Tons of transom windows were added allowing light to flood into the space.

Because the kitchen was surrounded by windows, we needed to provide optimal storage solutions. We used large lower drawers for ease of use and to keep the design streamlined. A back pantry and laundry room were redesigned to provide ample backup.
