Inspiration for a transitional dark wood floor kitchen/dining room combo remodel in New York with beige walls

Near the banks of the Stono River sits this custom elevated home on Johns Island. In partnership with Vinyet Architecture and Polish Pop Design, the homeowners chose a coastal look with heavy emphasis on elements like ship lap, white interiors and exteriors and custom elements throughout. The large island and hood directly behind it serve as the focal point of the kitchen. The ship lap for both were custom built. Within this open floor plan, serving the kitchen, dining room and living room sits an enclosed wet bar with live edge solid wood countertop. Custom shelving was installed next to the TV area with a geometric design, mirroring the Master Bedroom ceiling. Enter the adjacent screen porch through a collapsing sliding door, which gives it a true eight-foot wide opening to the outdoors. Reclaimed wooden beams add character to the living room and outdoor fireplace mantels.

Guesthouse - cottage detached guesthouse idea in San Francisco

These homeowners are well known to our team as repeat clients and asked us to convert a dated deck overlooking their pool and the lake into an indoor/outdoor living space. A new footer foundation with tile floor was added to withstand the Indiana climate and to create an elegant aesthetic. The existing transom windows were raised and a collapsible glass wall with retractable screens was added to truly bring the outdoor space inside. Overhead heaters and ceiling fans now assist with climate control and a custom TV cabinet was built and installed utilizing motorized retractable hardware to hide the TV when not in use. As the exterior project was concluding we additionally removed 2 interior walls and french doors to a room to be converted to a game room. We removed a storage space under the stairs leading to the upper floor and installed contemporary stair tread and cable handrail for an updated modern look. The first floor living space is now open and entertainer friendly with uninterrupted flow from inside to outside and is simply stunning.

The Big Bang dining table is based on our classic Vega table, but with a surprising new twist. Big Bang is extendable to accommodate more guests, with center storage for two fold-out butterfly table leaves, tucked out of sight. Collapsed, Big Bang measures 50”x50” to accommodate daily life in our client’s small dining nook, but expands to either 72” or 94” when needed. Big Bang was originally commissioned in white oak, but is available in all of our solid wood materials. Several coats of hand-applied clear finish accentuate Big Bangs natural wood surface & add a layer of extra protection. The Big Bang is a physical theory that describes how the universe… and this table, expanded. This new primary suite closet is part of a larger remodeling project that also involved a new primary bathroom, an additional bathroom and a large kitchen. The master suite remodel included converting a long and narrow master bath, a large closet and two awkward baths into a true primary bath oasis. The closet was moved to a new location. The goal was to create a modern his and hers closet that offered thoughtful organization while maximizing the storage potential of the space. Other needs included space for hampers, a place to iron and a designated space for Indian saris without natural light. Design challenges: -Arranging everything: hanging bars, drawers, shoe storage and safes Design solutions and nice touches: -Bench in front of the window with shoe storage in drawers -Two floor-to-ceiling mirrors -Two tall closet cabinets for storing saris -She is shorter so hanging clothes on her side are easier to reach -Plenty of drawer storage -Two hampers behind doors -Island in the middle for more storage, with a countertop handy for daily dressing assistance, folding, packing, etc. -Outlet inside island for collapsible ironing board -Fully accessorized with valet rods, belt pull-outs -Rotating tie hangers

Folding doors at the end of the family room open to bring the pool inside. A strong visual axis connects the fire pavilion and pool with the family room, encouraging a walk outside to the distant jewel. High windows and vertical siding are inspiration to invoke the interior of a barn. The family room is open and comfortable for small or large gatherings.
