I really wanted this room to feel special, like every piece has a story. Since the bedroom is small we rely on each piece of furniture to provide maximum function. This bookcase offers both space for books, space to display treasured pieces and room for toy trucks! We purchased the 'San Francisco' pennant at a local retail store, which became the inspiration to seek out pennants of both the clients hometown, and that of her husbands. Not finding what we were looking for, we commissioned to have the 'Vancouver' and 'Chicago' pennants made by Etsy vendor 'Savarin and Co.' The stripes in the blackout drapes, vintage world map pattern in the chair and Ikat pattern in the rug are easy, liveable patterns that can grow with the young boy for many years.

We were approached by a San Francisco firefighter to design a place for him and his girlfriend to live while also creating additional units he could sell to finance the project. He grew up in the house that was built on this site in approximately 1886. It had been remodeled repeatedly since it was first built so that there was only one window remaining that showed any sign of its Victorian heritage. The house had become so dilapidated over the years that it was a legitimate candidate for demolition. Furthermore, the house straddled two legal parcels, so there was an opportunity to build several new units in its place. At our client’s suggestion, we developed the left building as a duplex of which they could occupy the larger, upper unit and the right building as a large single-family residence. In addition to design, we handled permitting, including gathering support by reaching out to the surrounding neighbors and shepherding the project through the Planning Commission Discretionary Review process. The Planning Department insisted that we develop the two buildings so they had different characters and could not be mistaken for an apartment complex. The duplex design was inspired by Albert Frey’s Palm Springs modernism but clad in fibre cement panels and the house design was to be clad in wood. Because the site was steeply upsloping, the design required tall, thick retaining walls that we incorporated into the design creating sunken patios in the rear yards. All floors feature generous 10 foot ceilings and large windows with the upper, bedroom floors featuring 11 and 12 foot ceilings. Open plans are complemented by sleek, modern finishes throughout.

Beverly Hills based clients commissioned a vacation home for their family in Malibu, CA. Together with world renowned interior designer John Cottrell, we conceived a 10,000 sq. ft. Pennsylvania Stone Farm House. The stone was quarried from the Midwest and is complemented by a steep French slate roof. The site is situated on a 2 1/2 acre bluff with a panoramic view stretching from Paradise Cove to Catalina Island. This resplendent retreat immediately relaxes the mind and body as one is lead from the circular drive court through an arched portico with paneled wood gates into a quiet lawned courtyard. The garden and reflective lap pool and spa are sheltered from harsh elements by the two wings of the house. A glass French lite Dutch entrance door is discretely located at the end of an outdoor colonnade. 2018 DESIGN OVATION HONORABLE MENTION/ TRADITIONAL LIVING ROOM. Years after a major remodel, this couple contacted the designer as they had for 25 yrs to work with the contractor to create this Living Area Addition. To warm up the room and bring the ceiling down, the designer recommended the use of wood planks on the ceiling, along with 2 large-scale iron chandeliers. The double row of windows brings the outdoors in, providing wonderful daylight. The wall space above the opening to the adjacent Library was the perfect location for canvas panels inspired by the wife’s favorite Japanese artwork and commissioned by the designer with a local artist. The room provides plenty of seating for watching TV, reading or conversation. The open space between the sofa table and library allows room for the client to explore her heritage through Japanese Sword practicing or her Ikebana creations using their landscape. The style of the house was very traditional however the client wanted the interiors to be transitional, a mixture of contemporary with more classic design. We assisted the client in all of the material, fixture, lighting, cabinetry and built-in selections for the home. The floors throughout the first floor of the home are a creme marble in different patterns to suit the particular room; the dining room has a marble mosaic inlay in the tradition of an oriental rug. The ground and second floors are hardwood flooring with a herringbone pattern in the bedrooms. Each of the seven bedrooms has a custom ensuite bathroom with a unique design. The master bathroom features a white and gray marble custom inlay around the wood paneled tub which rests below a venetian plaster domes and custom glass pendant light. We also selected all of the furnishings, wall coverings, window treatments, and accessories for the home. Custom draperies were fabricated for the sitting room, dining room, guest bedroom, master bedroom, and for the double height great room. The client wanted a neutral color scheme throughout the ground floor; fabrics were selected in creams and beiges in many different patterns and textures. One of the favorite rooms is the sitting room with the sculptural white tete a tete chairs. The master bedroom also maintains a neutral palette of creams and silver including a venetian mirror and a silver leafed folding screen. Additional unique features in the home are the layered capiz shell walls at the rear of the great room open bar, the double height limestone fireplace surround carved in a woven pattern, and the stained glass dome at the top of the vaulted ceilings in the great room.

The new kitchen layout maximizes countertop and storage space as well as enhances overall functionality, To add visual interest to the large space we used two toned cabinets – classic white along the perimeter and a deep blue to distinguish the two islands and tall pantry. Brushed brass accents echo the original brass hardware and fixtures throughout the home. A kitchen this large needed a statement when it came to the countertops so we selected a stunning Nuvolato quartzite with distinctive veining that complements the blue cabinets. We restored and refinished the original Heart of Pine floors, letting the natural character of the wood shine through. A custom antique Heart of Pine wood top was commissioned for the fixed island – the warmth of wood was preferable to stone for the informal seating area. The second island serves as both prep area and staging space for dinners and events. This mobile island can be pushed flush with the stationary island to provide a generous area for the caterers to expedite service.

Situated in the wooded hills of Orinda lies an old home with great potential. Ridgecrest Designs turned an outdated kitchen into a jaw-dropping space fit for a contemporary art gallery. To give an artistic urban feel we commissioned a local artist to paint a textured "warehouse wall" on the tallest wall of the kitchen. Four skylights allow natural light to shine down and highlight the warehouse wall. Bright white glossy cabinets with hints of white oak and black accents pop on a light landscape. Real Turkish limestone covers the floor in a random pattern for an old-world look in an otherwise ultra-modern space.

Three years after moving in this entertainment center was commissioned. Staggered heights and depths bring character and visual interest to this piece while cleverly hiding the A/V equipment, television screen, games and other non-decorative items.
