For our Lincolnshire "modern farmhouse" project, light, bright and sun filled were the requirements. A grouping of pendant lights illuminates a huge custom island that allows plenty of space for meal preparation. Photo: Anthony Tahlier

This living room got an upgraded look with the help of new paint, furnishings, fireplace tiling and the installation of a bar area. Our clients like to party and they host very often... so they needed a space off the kitchen where adults can make a cocktail and have a conversation while listening to music. We accomplished this with conversation style seating around a coffee table. We designed a custom built-in bar area with wine storage and beverage fridge, and floating shelves for storing stemware and glasses. The fireplace also got an update with beachy glazed tile installed in a herringbone pattern and a rustic pine mantel. The homeowners are also love music and have a large collection of vinyl records. We commissioned a custom record storage cabinet from Hansen Concepts which is a piece of art and a conversation starter of its own. The record storage unit is made of raw edge wood and the drawers are engraved with the lyrics of the client's favorite songs. It's a masterpiece and will be an heirloom for sure.

MEB Architects Ltd - "The Barn" custom 5 car garage.
MEB Architects was commissioned to design a single family home and detached garage on 20 acres in Long Grove. Surrounded by the natural setting of the adjacent conservation district we recalled the simple forms & materials of Midwestern farms. With the client’s love of French Country sensibilities, the combination led to an eclectic design of pure American and European architecture. The four car detached garage or “barn” was designed and constructed first with the “main house” to complete the setting later. The main house and barn are all the more remarkable by the juxtaposition of reclaimed antique materials and new building technologies – the exposed antique barn wood, milk ventilators, and corrugated galvanized metal roofing are the veneer for the environmentally friendly prefabricated energy efficient THERMOCORE panels. The house is now under construction

For this San Francisco family of five, RBD was hired to make the space unique and functional for three toddlers under the age of four, but to also maintain a sophisticated look. Wallpaper covers the Dining Room, Powder Room, Master Bathroom, and the inside of the Entry Closet for a fun treat each time it gets opened! With furnishings, lighting, window treatments, plants and accessories RBD transformed the home from mostly grays and whites to a space with personality and warmth.
With the partnership of Ted Boerner RBD helped design a custom television cabinet to conceal the TV and AV equipment in the living room. Across the way sits a kid-friendly blueberry leather sofa perfect for movie nights. Finally, a custom piece of art by Donna Walker was commissioned to tie the room together. In the dining room RBD worked around the client's existing teak table and paired it with Viennese Modernist Chairs in the manner of Oswald Haerdtl. Lastly a Jonathan Browning chandelier is paired with a Pinch sideboard and Anewall Wallpaper for casual sophistication.

The design of this 4227 square foot estate home was recognized by the International Design and Architecture Awards 2019 and nominated in these 4 categories: Luxury Residence Canada, Kitchen Design over 100 000GBP, Bedroom and Bathroom.
Our design intent here was to create a home that felt harmonious and luxurious, yet livable and inviting. This home was refurbished with only the finest finishes and custom design details throughout. We hand selected decor items, designed furniture pieces to suit this home and commissioned an artist to provide us with the perfect art pieces to compliment.

The commission consisted of the design of a new English Manor House on a secluded 24 acre plot of
land. The property included water features, rolling grass areas at the front and a steep section of woods
at the rear. The project required the procurement of permits from the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Conservation and a variance from the Mendham Zoning Board of Appeals.
The stately Colonial Manor is entirely clad in Pennsylvania stone, has slate roofs, copper gutters and
leaders, and lavish interior finishes. It comprises six Bedroom Suites, each with its own Bathroom, plus
an apartment over the garages, and eight garage bays. The house was designed with energy efficiency
in mind, and incorporates the highest R-value insulation throughout, low-E, argon-filled insulating
windows and patio doors, a geothermal HVAC system, and energy-efficient appliances.

Three years after moving in, the china hutch was commissioned. The homeowners declare that it was well worth the wait!
Quarter sawn oak with a Mission finish from Dura Supreme Cabinetry blends seamlessly with the homeowner's other oak antiques. There is more than meets the eye with this custom china hutch. Roll-out shelves efficiently store multiple sets of china while the drawers keep silver and serving utensils organized. The lighted upper section highlights the collectables inside while providing wonderful mood lighting in the dining room.

The homeowners had no idea what they wanted for there kitchen design but knew they liked a particular theme. I collaborated with Scavolini kitchens to create a space where industrial meets contemporary and the result was a perfect blend of two styles. I designed a custom range hood and commissioned a local ironsmith to fabricate the design. The iron material selection was left in a semi finished state to give a more weathered look. The glass panels are anchored with heavy bolts. The cabinet finish has a linen textured look that adds character the overall appeal of this kitchen.

An elegant Sycamore wood washbasin becomes the pedestal of a honey colored Onyx Stone sink. This commissioned piece fits snugly next to the glass wall of the shower.
We aimed to group items such as the smooth white stone, the textured ceramic tiles in shades of gray and the green plants with plenty of leaves, expressing the best traits of nature in one single place, a true haven of tranquility for our clinet.

Subtle curves and circle patterns repeat throughout the home as seen in the custom fireplace screen, and drapes made from hand embroidered fabric imported from India.
The silhouettes of the custom upholstered sofa and armchairs also pick up the curvilinear beat. Notice the detailing of the back of the chairs. It is cream lacquer with a bronze metal “X” to give this perspective of the room from the dining room that much more interest for the eye. The room’s original wood trimmed windows give the home an airy quality and the open flow modernizes the Craftsman style while still retaining its old world charm. Take a close look at the painting to the left of the entry. This landscape of Tuscany was painted by the owner’s mother. The large painting to the right of the entry is a commissioned piece and is a modern interpretation of a landscape. This room is filled with treasures from the homeowner’s travels. From the hand glazed ceramics on the mantle to the many items on the gold hand-painted metal étagère in the corner, there are wonderful stories and memories associated with each of them.

This 4,000-square foot home is located in the Silversand section of Hermosa Beach, known for its fabulous restaurants, walkability and beach access. Stylistically, it’s coastal-meets-traditional, complete with 4 bedrooms, 5.5 baths, a 3-stop elevator and a roof deck with amazing ocean views.
The client, an art collector, wanted bold color and unique aesthetic choices. In the living room, the built-in shelving is lined in luminescent mother of pearl. The dining area’s custom hand-blown chandelier was made locally and perfectly diffuses light. The client’s former granite-topped dining table didn’t fit the size and shape of the space, so we cut the granite and built a new base and frame around it.
The bedrooms are full of organic materials and personal touches, such as the light raffia wall-covering in the master bedroom and the fish-painted end table in a college-aged son’s room—a nod to his love of surfing.
Detail is always important, but especially to this client, so we searched for the perfect artisans to create one-of-a kind pieces. Several light fixtures were commissioned by an International glass artist. These include the white, layered glass pendants above the kitchen island, and the stained glass piece in the hallway, which glistens blues and greens through the window overlooking the front entrance of the home.
The overall feel of the house is peaceful but not complacent, full of tiny surprises and energizing pops of color.

With their children growing up, Mr & Mrs Hills in Southend-On-Sea decided it was time to give their much loved family kitchen a well deserved renovation, creating a space for all the family to use and enjoy.
They wanted a kitchen that had plenty of storage and was user friendly for all the family, so commissioned Burlanes to transform their cramped and dated kitchen into a spacious and open-plan room. Walking into Burlanes Chelmsford, the couple took an instant like to our Wellsdown kitchen; our take on the classic Georgian country kitchen; built on the notions of good proportions and symmetry, combining traditional charm with all the benefits of modern living.

A custom graffiti graphic was commissioned by the owner. The graphic is of the names of the owner's two sons, Ty and Quinn.

For this commission the client hired us to do the interiors of their new home which was under construction. The style of the house was very traditional however the client wanted the interiors to be transitional, a mixture of contemporary with more classic design. We assisted the client in all of the material, fixture, lighting, cabinetry and built-in selections for the home. The floors throughout the first floor of the home are a creme marble in different patterns to suit the particular room; the dining room has a marble mosaic inlay in the tradition of an oriental rug. The ground and second floors are hardwood flooring with a herringbone pattern in the bedrooms. Each of the seven bedrooms has a custom ensuite bathroom with a unique design. The master bathroom features a white and gray marble custom inlay around the wood paneled tub which rests below a venetian plaster domes and custom glass pendant light. We also selected all of the furnishings, wall coverings, window treatments, and accessories for the home. Custom draperies were fabricated for the sitting room, dining room, guest bedroom, master bedroom, and for the double height great room. The client wanted a neutral color scheme throughout the ground floor; fabrics were selected in creams and beiges in many different patterns and textures. One of the favorite rooms is the sitting room with the sculptural white tete a tete chairs. The master bedroom also maintains a neutral palette of creams and silver including a venetian mirror and a silver leafed folding screen. Additional unique features in the home are the layered capiz shell walls at the rear of the great room open bar, the double height limestone fireplace surround carved in a woven pattern, and the stained glass dome at the top of the vaulted ceilings in the great room.

• Integral Concrete Sink and Wall designed and fabricated by Cheng Design, Meteor Vineyards Kitchen
This kitchen by Cheng Design is located within a massive, 12,000 sq. ft. rammed earth home anchoring a working Napa County, California vineyard. Commissioned to create a sculptural yet functional cooking space expressing art and utility, the design approach was to create a monolith — a unified kitchen space of simple low walls and concrete countertops, seamless cabinetry details and hardware, and a clever orchestration of gourmet appliances to echo the mass of the house and anchor the overwhelming space.
