Working with a long time resident, creating a unified look out of the varied styles found in the space while increasing the size of the home was the goal of this project. Both of the home’s bathrooms were renovated to further the contemporary style of the space, adding elements of color as well as modern bathroom fixtures. Further additions to the master bathroom include a frameless glass door enclosure, green wall tiles, and a stone bar countertop with wall-mounted faucets. The guest bathroom uses a more minimalistic design style, employing a white color scheme, free standing sink and a modern enclosed glass shower. The kitchen maintains a traditional style with custom white kitchen cabinets, a Carrera marble countertop, banquet seats and a table with blue accent walls that add a splash of color to the space.

Here we added a low voltage LED lighting system, that illuminates some of the native trees and provides a welcoming and cozy look year round.

Our studio reimagined this kitchen to make it suitable for entertaining family and friends. We altered the layout to an open-concept floor plan and changed the yellowish paint to a beautiful white, creating a bright, airy vibe. The elegant dark wood floors were retained, and complementary design elements were added to make the flooring pop. The stunning countertops perform a dual function as backsplash tiles, creating a harmonious ambiance in the space. We added gorgeous chairs and stylish pendants with a gold finish that adds a glamorous touch. We carved a beautiful home bar in the space with open concept shelving and charcoal black lower cabinets for storage. This 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

This eclectic kitchen design in Mission Viejo-Lake View brings light into the space through a large window, which is then beautifully reflected in the mirror paneled pantry doors. The mirrors add depth and light to the space, giving the kitchen a bright, airy feel. Glass pendant lights, recessed lighting, and under- and in-cabinet lights complete the multi-layered lighting design. The Columbia Cabinetry recessed panel kitchen cabinets bring a traditional foundation to the kitchen design. White perimeter cabinetry includes glass front upper cabinets with in cabinet lighting, offering the perfect place to display dishes and glassware. A backsplash tile feature design adds a focal point above the range. The beverage center incorporates a Zephyr wine refrigerator. An Allia by Rohl white fireclay undermount sink is positioned facing the large kitchen window that overlooks a stunning view and is accompanied by a pull-down sprayer faucet. This Mission Viejo-Lake View kitchen design brings together materials, textures, lighting, and complementary colors to create a stunning space. Inspiration for a large transitional staircase remodel in New York

These clients hired us to renovate their long and narrow bathroom with a dysfunctional design. Along with creating a more functional layout, our clients wanted a walk-in shower, a separate bathtub, and a double vanity. Already working with tight space, we got creative and were able to widen the bathroom by 30 inches. This additional space allowed us to install a wet area, rather than a small, separate shower, which works perfectly to prevent the rest of the bathroom from getting soaked when their youngest child plays and splashes in the bath. Our clients wanted an industrial-contemporary style, with clean lines and refreshing colors. To ensure the bathroom was cohesive with the rest of their home (a timber frame mountain-inspired home located in northern New Hampshire), we decided to mix a few complementary elements to get the look of their dreams. The shower and bathtub boast industrial-inspired oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and the light contemporary ceramic garden seat brightens up the space while providing the perfect place to sit during bath time. We chose river rock tile for the wet area, which seamlessly contrasts against the rustic wood-like tile. And finally, we merged both rustic and industrial-contemporary looks through the vanity using rustic cabinets and mirror frames as well as “industrial” Edison bulb lighting.

For this garden project, we created a simple yet elegant pathway using three distinct but complementary earthen colors and textures. The pebbles and flat stones match the home’s multicolored brickwork walls. We added contrast with black soil and river rock. We planted small compact plants around this pathway which won’t create too much shade or hinder the view. The gently curving design leading to another part of the property arouses the viewer’s curiosity.

California Coastal Transitional Kitchen My client was inspired by a kitchen done by designer Caitlin Wilson and immediately knew she wanted to to use Calacatta marble as well. Using a slab vs the subway tiles creates this really pretty movement in the kitchen. Island cabinets are finished with Benjamin Moore Gray Pinstripe. There’s a lot of brass in the kitchen but felt we didn’t need to go overboard and go brass with the sink faucets as well. I think it’s a nice break for the eyes if you offset it with a different finish. Polished nickel I love because it has a really pretty warm tone that feels forever classic. The warm tones in the polished nickel complement the warm tones in the brass, which will patina over time because they’re unlacquered. If you’re considering brass cabinet hardware, it’s completely acceptable to go with a different finish with the faucet or light fixtures. White marble vanity top and gray stained wood vanity cabinet provide contrasting and complementary textures. Classic contemporary styling and attention to detail make this double duty bathroom a sophisticated but functional space for the family's two young children as well as guests. Removing a wall and expanding into a closet allowed the additional space needed for a double vanity and generous room in front of the combined tub/shower. The curved shower curtain rod allows for additional room in the shower. HAVEN design+building llc
