This lower level space was inspired by Film director, write producer, Quentin Tarantino. Starting with the acoustical panels disguised as posters, with films by Tarantino himself. We included a sepia color tone over the original poster art and used this as a color palate them for the entire common area of this lower level. New premium textured carpeting covers most of the floor, and on the ceiling, we added LED lighting, Madagascar ebony beams, and a two-tone ceiling paint by Sherwin Williams. The media stand houses most of the AV equipment and the remaining is integrated into the walls using architectural speakers to comprise this 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos Setup. We included this custom sectional with performance velvet fabric, as well as a new table and leather chairs for family game night. The XL metal prints near the new regulation pool table creates an irresistible ambiance, also to the neighboring reclaimed wood dart board area. The bathroom design include new marble tile flooring and a premium frameless shower glass. The luxury chevron wallpaper gives this space a kiss of sophistication. Finalizing this lounge we included a gym with rubber flooring, fitness rack, row machine as well as custom mural which infuses visual fuel to the owner’s workout. The Everlast speedbag is positioned in the perfect place for those late night or early morning cardio workouts. Lastly, we included Polk Audio architectural ceiling speakers meshed with an SVS micros 3000, 800-Watt subwoofer.

In the back of this estate just outside of Omaha, Nebraska, Elite Landscaping designed a custom concrete swimming pool with a covered pool house and 360-degree, negative-edge spa.
The pool house features an outdoor kitchen and bar area, which rests on posts that adjoin the raised pool wall. The pool house was built as an exact architectural match to the house, from the stucco, to the cedar decking beams, down to the paint color. This covered outdoor entertaining area provides a shady spot in the afternoons, where guests can lounge on four in-pool, swim up bar stools. The rest of the pool remains in full sun. The sunken swim-up bar is adorned with glass tile accents, and the pool wall features natural stone. Oversized, UniLock bluestone pavers comprise the pool deck and patio.
The unique negative-edge spa sits above the pool, and was designed so one half of the spa flows into the pool while the other half flows back into the landscaping. The entire poolscape is automated by a Pentair IntelliTouch system that runs off of a smartphone or other device. With the touch of a button, the homeowners can adjust pool and spa temperatures, change water flow speed, program the FX color-changing LED lights, and even test the pool chemistry.

Rustic and refined meet to give a mountaintop home in Portola Valley, California, classic charm.
They say the best things in life come to those who wait. So when a Bay Area couple purchased a rare set of adjoining lots overlooking Windy Hill in Portola Valley, they made frequent visits to the site where they absorbed the views while listening to the land as they contemplated building a home there. The intent: to create a home that would celebrate the scenic beauty of the San Mateo County region.
Long before the design process began, the couple committed themselves to preserving as many trees on the land as possible. These trees, two majestic, centuries-old Blue Oaks in particular, ultimately became the impetus for the home’s orientation and the inspiration for its design. Detailed discussions and brainstorming sessions led the owners to discover their own unique tastes: “cozy” and “rustic“ while “contemporary, but not minimal.” The result? Sophisticated style comprised of simple, honest materials.

Sited on a ravine feeding the Credit River, the project comprises a new house and gardens. Of particular note are the angular geometries of the building forms, extensive use of architectural concrete, glass and millwork surfaces, and site topographies and geotechnical conditions.

The Stonehouse Meadow in early summer. Forever changing with the seasons, this garden is a haven for song birds, butterflies and pollinators. A mixture of Ontario native wildflowers, perennials and herbs comprise of this expansive meadow and grassland garden.

The concept for this project was to reveal the sensation of an active, living landscape in flux and echo the vitality and energy of the wetland that comprises much of this rural site. A mosaic of shifting concrete slabs, set in a field of limestone bands and chip seal, flows through screens of bamboo, set in motion by the slightest breeze. The implied motion of the ground plane blurs the boundary where the terrace and parking court meet, serving the dual purpose of expanded entertaining area or overflow parking during large gatherings. The clipped formal hedge that folds around the house and delineates the lawn stands in stark opposition to the unrestrained hemlock forest that envelops the property, heightening the contrast between the two. The shifting planes of the boardwalk entrance connects these volumes, defining the primary visual and functional axes of the site.

THE PLANNED BATHROOM. | The modular Symetrics system opens up new perspectives in interior design for architects and planners. Symetrics comprises numerous individual modules for the entire bathroom area, which are tailored to a defined grid size. The modules can be arranged and combined freely within this grid. Because the spouts and controls are clearly separate, the overall appearance of the bathroom is redefined by the arrangement of the modules. Planning is based on a grid of vertical and horizontal reference lines. This grid also specifies the dimensions for the individual Symetrics modules, on the basis of a 60 x 60 mm base unit. | Available at www.shopstudio41.com

We craft sustainable designs that express the unique intersection of our clients’ practical and emotional needs with the site’s opportunities and constraints. We design in a wide variety of styles, informed by a broad vocabulary of forms, details, materials, and methods. Our intimate construction knowledge enables us to create innovative, cost-effective design solutions. We enjoy collaborating with clients to create beautiful, livable spaces that enhance their lives.

Casa A137 is harmoniously nestled on a property that borders the spring forest to the south and west, with a gentle 14m drop from its highest point. This natural topography was not a challenge but an inspiration for our architecture, guiding us to open the views towards the forest and blend seamlessly with the terrain. The project gracefully ascends from street level, ensuring the ground floor merges with the rear garden level while the upper floor offers unobstructed views of the natural landscape. We used stone materials and steel to create a sober and simple appearance for the residence. Apparent concrete has an important role in all exterior and interior areas; in the same way, the green areas visually accompany each space. The house’s gardens go hand in hand with the architecture. Several interior areas were designed to integrate vegetation, which accompanies the exterior, where the landscaped spaces that complement the facade and the side corridors are projected. For our clients, social areas were very important, especially the terrace. An important project area is destined for an outdoor terrace overlooking the forest. It comprises a kitchen area with a bar and a space for living and dining. The warmth of a fire pit accompanies it.

This project involves the renovation of, and additions to, a small guest house that is part of a larger residential compound. Originally designed by Fernau + Hartman Architects, this widely-published compound was completed in 1998 and is comprised of 22 different volumes within 7,800 square feet. The assemblage, containing a main house, guest house, and pool house, was commissioned by Gaston Caperton, the governor of West Virginia at that time. It was an architectural icon designed for entertaining.
After living in the main house for 15 years, our clients wanted to make changes that would allow them to age in place on the property. The house's 13 different levels made it physically challenging for them to continue living there safely. The goal of the project was to address the physical and perceptual challenges of aging in place while preserving and honoring the original design. The renovations and additions to the guest house created an accessible, one-bedroom house that accommodates the couple’s mobility, cognitive, vision, and balance challenges. Now that our clients have moved into the guest house, their son and his family will move into the main house.
