The kitchen and oversized island were built for an enthusiastic home chef, and the large ensuite comes with all the bells and whistles of a high-end spa. What’s more, every bedroom has its own bathroom, providing ultra comfort for visiting children and grandchildren. This space transitions from kitchen to living zone with a rhythm that feels effortless and intentional. A minimalist ribbon fireplace adds emotional warmth without cluttering the design. Beside it, the floating staircase rises like sculpture—its wood treads and matte railing continuing the material language from the kitchen. The restraint of this design makes it feel expansive. Nothing is overstated, yet everything is considered. Light is diffused. Movement is easy. Sightlines are uninterrupted. This project was a part of the 2017 Decorators' Showhouse in Columbus, Ohio. Twelve designers each created a room within the Columbus Museum of Art, making this the first showhouse to take place within a museum. Each designer was allowed to use a piece of artwork from the museum's collection in their space. The intent of this design was to create a contemporary, gender-neutral nursery with touches of mid-century modern style. Mid-century modern design is sleek, simple, functional and bright. Here, the combination of vintage and contemporary furnishings and accessories all come together to create a space that is calm, yet inspires creative play. The artwork, California Landscape by Stanton Macdonald-Wright, sets this tone. His modern abstract, devoid of illustration uses blocks of color to create space and form. This idea of geometric abstracts is repeated throughout the design of the room. Interesting shapes that can be manipulated with eye or hand are very fitting for a nursery. This is a space where a child can dream and play, grow and learn, and also rest. Klopf Architecture, Outer Space Landscape Architects, and Flegels Construction updated a classical 1950s original mid-century modern house designed by the late Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice Ellis Jacobs. Klopf Architecture pushed the original design intent to make the house more open and uniform from space to space, while improving energy efficiency, capitalizing more on the already incredible views, improving the flow of spaces, providing an outdoor living area, and ratcheting up the quality level of the home in general. The updated custom Mid-Century Modern home is a remodeled single-family house in Redwood City. This 2,000 square foot (plus garage), 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is located in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Custom Kitchen Detail – Designer Vent Hood & Backsplash This custom kitchen design by Sure Built Construction, Inc. showcases the perfect balance of craftsmanship and style. A hand-crafted wood vent hood anchors the space above a professional gas cooktop, framed by an elegant herringbone marble backsplash with an inset of brass-accent mosaic tile. Brushed-brass fixtures, including a wall-mounted pot filler, complement the custom shaker cabinetry and quartz countertops, while open shelving provides warmth and practical display space. Every finish in this kitchen was intentionally selected to blend modern sophistication with timeless design, creating a focal point that’s as functional as it is beautiful. ? Modernist architect Marcel Breuer is known for his innovative Wassily chair, a pared back seat made up of tubular steel frame and strips of canvas. Even if that’s your only point of reference, you’ll see plenty of overlap in this Andover residence he designed. It is highly functional, with clean lines and plenty of open space. We had the honor to design an updated landscape to complement this home designed by Marcel Breuer, right here in Andover. As the landscape was originally designed by renowned landscape architect, Dan Kiley, we wanted to maintain his original design intent while also updating its functionality to suit the homeowner's needs. Ultimately, it was important to respect the architectural design intent of the property while creating a safe and inviting entry. The simplicity of the design was created with a restricted palette that compliments the materials and color tones of the house. Orthogonal lines pull from the architecture out into the landscape, unifying the two. A metal runnel with stacked stone visually connects the front entry to the primary bedroom garden, while further highlighting a unique feature in Breuer’s architecture. Moving to a space formed for privacy and respite, the zen garden off the primary bedroom offers an outdoor shower, water feature, and minimalistic planting. Arranged boulders, undulating moss plant beds, bluestone and gravel are mediums in which we used to paint a calming atmosphere extending from this unique home. To highlight the tranquil nature of the site, a boulder was hand carved to create a recirculating water feature that can be enjoyed from both the garden and primary bedroom. A wall of glass separates the bedroom from the spa-like garden, blurring the lines of architecture and landscape.
