A complete full gut remodel of a 4,000 sq ft two-story penthouse residence, this project featured one of a kind views of the Boston public garden and Beacon Hill. A large central gallery flooded with gorgeous diffused light through two full stories of window glass. Clean linear millwork details compliment the structural glass, steel and walnut balustrades and handrailings that grace the upper gallery, reading nook, and stairs. A bleached walnut wet bar with backlit honey onyx backsplash and floating star fire glass shelves illuminated the lower gallery. It was part of a larger motif, which resonated through each of the unique and separate living spaces, connecting them to the larger design intention. A bleached walnut media room doubles as a fourth bedroom. It features a king size murphy bed seamlessly integrated into the full wall panel. A gracious shower in the adjoining bathroom, cleverly concealed behind an innocuous interior door, created a truly unique formal powder room that can reveal a full bath when the house is full of guests. A blend of warm wood, soft whites, and a palate of golds reflected in the stone (calacatta/onyx) textiles and wall coverings, this project demonstrates the powerful results of a consistent design intention, thoughtful engineering, and best practice construction as executed by our talented team of craftsmen and women. The prep area outside the sauna is just as considered as the sauna itself. We designed and built floor-to-ceiling custom white cabinetry flanking an acoustic slat wall panel — adding natural texture and warmth between the cabinet towers. Towel hooks and a built-in butcher block bench with drawer storage below keep everything functional and organized. Recessed ceiling lights and crown molding on the upper cabinets give the room a polished, spa-quality finish. The design intent for this graceful contemporary home was an approach toward minimalism, yet ensuring that the practical needs of day-to-day life could still be satisfied. Situated on a plateau atop a steep hill, the floor plan and glass walls beautifully incorporated the outdoor environment into the primary living spaces. The grounds were carpeted with sage and lavender. The contemporary color palette was in pale tones of white, graphite and titanium, complimented with white washed vertical grain oak. The design intent of this kitchen space was to pay homage to Brutalist architecture, while still including contemporary design elements, in this compact modern infill project. The use of clean lines and stark geometric shapes was fundamental, in order to evoke the modularity and functionality that Brutalism is known for. Preserving the feeling of a livable, inviting space was also very important, as the kitchen is open to the rest of the main floor living area. A combination of materials, in both warm and cool tones, helped to integrate the rougher construction materials traditionally found in Brutalist architecture. The colour and texture of the built-up concrete counter on the island contrasts beautifully with that of the cantilevered walnut butcher block. The subtlety of the glass base in the seating area allows the lines of the countertops to really be the focus of the room.

The original orchid house and gardening shed was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. We re-built this structure in the same location on the property and added a few upgrades to the old structure. Not only does it now meet 180+ hurricane wind codes it also has a skylight beaming natural light into the storage shed area. We also installed a v-crimp metal roof. We custom made some Sapele Mahogany lattice for hanging orchids and a outdoor ceiling fan for hot summer days. The wood siding was made in a board and batten design and is made from Red Grandis, a Eucalyptus that is a sustainable product and perfect for outdoors. We finished the siding with an exterior grey stain with the intention for the structure to blend in with the surrounding landscaping.
