Drury DesignThe 100-year old home’s kitchen was old and just didn’t function well. A peninsula in the middle of the main part of the kitchen blocked the path from the back door. This forced the homeowners to mostly use an odd, U-shaped corner of the kitchen.
Design objectives:
-Add an island
-Wow-factor design
-Incorporate arts and crafts with a touch of Mid-century modern style
-Allow for a better work triangle when cooking
-Create a seamless path coming into the home from the backdoor
-Make all the countertops in the space 36” high (the old kitchen had different base cabinet heights)
Design challenges to be solved:
-Island design
-Where to place the sink and dishwasher
-The family’s main entrance into the home is a back door located within the kitchen space. Samantha needed to find a way to make an unobstructed path through the kitchen to the outside
-A large eating area connected to the kitchen felt slightly misplaced – Samantha wanted to bring the kitchen and materials more into this area
-The client does not like appliance garages/cabinets to the counter. The more countertop space, the better!
Design solutions:
-Adding the right island made all the difference! Now the family has a couple of seats within the kitchen space. -Multiple walkways facilitate traffic flow.
-Multiple pantry cabinets (both shallow and deep) are placed throughout the space. A couple of pantry cabinets were even added to the back door wall and wrap around into the breakfast nook to give the kitchen a feel of extending into the adjoining eating area.
-Upper wall cabinets with clear glass offer extra lighting and the opportunity for the client to display her beautiful vases and plates. They add and an airy feel to the space.
-The kitchen had two large existing windows that were ideal for a sink placement. The window closest to the back door made the most sense due to the fact that the other window was in the corner. Now that the sink had a place, we needed to worry about the dishwasher. Samantha didn’t want the dishwasher to be in the way of people coming in the back door – it’s now in the island right across from the sink.
-The homeowners love Motawi Tile. Some fantastic pieces are placed within the backsplash throughout the kitchen. -Larger tiles with borders make for nice accent pieces over the rangetop and by the bar/beverage area.
-The adjacent area for eating is a gorgeous nook with massive windows. We added a built-in furniture-style banquette with additional lower storage cabinets in the same finish. It’s a great way to connect and blend the two areas into what now feels like one big space!

Axis MundiThis NoHo apartment, in a landmarked circa 1870 building designed by Stephen Decatur Hatch and converted to lofts in 1987, had been interestingly renovated by a rock musician before being purchased by a young hedge fund manager and his gallery director girlfriend. Naturally, the couple brought to the project their collection of painting, photography and sculpture, mostly by young emerging artists. Axis Mundi accommodated these pieces within a neutral palette accented with occasional flashes of bright color that referenced the various artworks. Major furniture pieces – a sectional in the library, a 12-foot-long dining table–along with a rich blend of textures such as leather, linen, fur and warm woods, helped bring the sprawling dimensions of the loft down to human scale.

The Circle F Residence has a beautiful mixture of natural stone, wood and metal, creating a home that blends flawlessly into it’s environment.
The modern door design was selected to complete the home with a warm front entrance. This signature piece is designed with horizontal cutters and a wenge wood handle accented with stainless steel caps. The obscure glass was chosen to add natural light and provide privacy to the front entry of the home. Performance was also factor in the selection of this piece; quad pane glass and a fully insulated aluminum door slab offer high performance and protection from the extreme weather. This distinctive modern aluminum door completes the home and provides a warm, beautiful entry way.

This charming little attic bath was an infrequently used guest bath located on the 3rd floor right above the master bath that we were also remodeling. The beautiful original leaded glass windows open to a view of the park and small lake across the street. A vintage claw foot tub sat directly below the window. This is where the charm ended though as everything was sorely in need of updating. From the pieced-together wall cladding to the exposed electrical wiring and old galvanized plumbing, it was in definite need of a gut job. Plus the hardwood flooring leaked into the bathroom below which was priority one to fix. Once we gutted the space, we got to rebuilding the room. We wanted to keep the cottage-y charm, so we started with simple white herringbone marble tile on the floor and clad all the walls with soft white shiplap paneling. A new clawfoot tub/shower under the original window was added. Next, to allow for a larger vanity with more storage, we moved the toilet over and eliminated a mish mash of storage pieces. We discovered that with separate hot/cold supplies that were the only thing available for a claw foot tub with a shower kit, building codes require a pressure balance valve to prevent scalding, so we had to install a remote valve. We learn something new on every job! There is a view to the park across the street through the home’s original custom shuttered windows. Can’t you just smell the fresh air? We found a vintage dresser and had it lacquered in high gloss black and converted it into a vanity. The clawfoot tub was also painted black. Brass lighting, plumbing and hardware details add warmth to the room, which feels right at home in the attic of this traditional home. We love how the combination of traditional and charming come together in this sweet attic guest bath. Truly a room with a view!

Teakwood Builders, Inc.Casual seating to the right of the bar contrasts the bold colors of the adjoining space with washed out blues and warm creams. Slabs of Italian Sequoia Brown marble were carefully book matched on the monolith to create perfect mirror images of each other, and are as much a piece of art as the local pieces showcased elsewhere. On the ceiling, hand blown glass by a local artist will never leave the guests without conversation.

Adrienne DeRosaAt the opposite end of the twins' bedroom is the work area. The table was custom made during the time that some of the children were being home schooled, so it needed to be a good size with lots of room to spread out.
Above the workspace, another piece by Ann Carrington creates a dramatic focal point. A portrait of Michael Jordan, the piece is constructed from layers upon layers of old cut basketballs.
Closed storage is kept to a minimum, even in the boys' room. In order to prevent clutter, objects are given away when they have lived out their use by the family. "We hate clutter", says Cortney. "We have no problem getting rid of anything... It's just stuff."

Diego Alejandro Interior DesignThis is the guest bedroom in a small vacation home in South Beach. I wanted to maintain a feeling of casualness, so I infused it with some quirky touches and humor —like the art piece above the bed—, along with a mix of vintage and contemporary pieces. For the primary “artwork”, I created the shelves of outward facing books that not only adds a striking visual to the space, but also gives guests a range of books to enjoy. I especially love the brown vintage Martz table lamp on the bed side table; it adds more soul and an unexpected element to the space.

Vanity by DesignSpecific to this photo: A view of our vanity with their choice in an open shower. Our vanity is 60-inches and made with solid timber paired with naturally sourced Carrara marble from Italy. The homeowner chose silver hardware throughout their bathroom, which is featured in the faucets along with their shower hardware. The shower has an open door, and features glass paneling, chevron black accent ceramic tiling, multiple shower heads, and an in-wall shelf.
This bathroom was a collaborative project in which we worked with the architect in a home located on Mervin Street in Bentleigh East in Australia.
This master bathroom features our Davenport 60-inch bathroom vanity with double basin sinks in the Hampton Gray coloring. The Davenport model comes with a natural white Carrara marble top sourced from Italy.
This master bathroom features an open shower with multiple streams, chevron tiling, and modern details in the hardware. This master bathroom also has a freestanding curved bath tub from our brand, exclusive to Australia at this time.
