This sleek bathroom creates a serene and bright feeling by keeping things simple. The Wetstyle floating vanity is paired with matching wall cabinet and medicine for a simple unified focal point. A custom-built banquette turned this unused dining room into a warm and inviting nook perfect for family gatherings or a peaceful moment of quiet self-reflection. Velvet upholstery in a rich rust color reminiscent of a desert sunset cleverly disguises additional storage built-in below.

Inside the cabin, an open floorplan lends itself to family moments and entertaining. An exposed wood ceiling creates a rustic vibe while contemporary furniture keep the space balanced. A stone wood burning fireplace with oversized reclaimed wood mantle is a dramatic centerpiece to the room. Large windows and sliding glass doors keep open eye lines to the lake view.

The challenge for this project was that, while the homeowner desired all of the luxury amenities of a deluxe master bath, space was extremely limited. Therefore efficient space planning was critical in achieving the final design. Use of custom painted cabinetry and carrara marble countertops were the basis for this compact yet luxurious bathroom design. Careful attention was given to the tone of the finishes in order to keep this eastern-exposure bathroom light and bright. White trim and crown moulding was used in contrast to the putty colored walls. In keeping with the era of the home, a hand-glazed white ceramic subway tile was used in the soaking tub alcove. Nickel plated bath, lavatory, tub and shower fixtures in the vintage style were used alongside modern amenities such as recessed halogen lighting, electric towel warmers and radiant-heated tile flooring.

The kitchen, breakfast room and family room are all open to one another. The kitchen has a large twelve foot island topped with Calacatta marble and features a roll-out kneading table, and room to seat the whole family. The sunlight breakfast room opens onto the patio which has a built-in barbeque, and both bar top seating and a built in bench for outdoor dining. The large family room features a cozy fireplace, TV media, and a large built-in bookcase. The adjoining craft room is separated by a set of pocket french doors; where the kids can be visible from the family room as they do their homework.

Living room - industrial formal medium tone wood floor living room idea in DC Metro with white walls, a standard fireplace, a brick fireplace and no tv

To eliminate an inconsistent layout, we removed the wall dividing the dining room from the living room and added a polished brass and ebonized wood handrail to create a sweeping view into the living room. To highlight the family’s passion for reading, we created a beautiful library with custom shelves flanking a niche wallpapered with Flavor Paper’s bold Glow print with color-coded book spines to add pops of color. Tom Dixon pendant lights, acrylic chairs, and a geometric hide rug complete the look.
