The steel and glass addition was inserted into a narrow courtyard between the original ranch house and carport. The addition integrates with the original home while also producing dramatic new elements, such as the large translucent glass window in the front which allows light while maintaining privacy from the street. The front of the original house, which had several different cladding materials, was re-clad in stucco.

Grand view of the entire kitchen showcasing the decorative valance toe kick throughout. All wall cabinets, hood and island feature the egg and dart moulding to enhance the antique furniture feel of the kitchen. Columns with burl inserts are featured throughout the kitchen to finish off ends and separate the kitchen sections. The island has decorative panels on either end and fluted turned posts on each corner with acanthus leaves and bun feet. A beautiful granite countertop enhances the Candlelight finish by Brookhaven. The sink area has decorative toe kick valance to give it a furniture look and feel. The homeowner displays her favorite art pieces above her sink and gives the room the right amount of color.

During the design process, it was important for the homeowner to incorporate the original green crown moulding of the kitchen into the design. The kitchen has two islands; a prep island and a sitting island for 6. The sitting island has a black with espresso glaze and rub-through finish on the Bridgeport Beaded door style. The same finish was used on the Refrigerator/pantry wall.
Base cabinets against window are meant to be the homeowner's baking station. The prep island houses a Thermador cooktop and provides roll-out shelves and angled ends to finish off the look. The sitting island is finished off with a wood top, leg posts, storage and sitting for 6 along with a Sharp microwave drawer. The refrigerator/pantry wall features a 2-piece crown moulding. AND just in case you were wondering who the little guy on the left is, that would be the "art director", Willie Nelson!

Cranmer Park Residence by Gretchen Wilson and Laurel Raines of Dig Studio
Perched on a high point of Denver’s Cranmer Park, one of the great park landmarks of the Mile-High City, this designed landscape complements and enhances the architectural aesthetic of the home; a stucco-clad Italianate mansion built in 1917 by renowned architect Jacques Benedict and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The landscape, designed and constructed in three phases over a twelve-year period from 1998 to 2010, creates a functional outdoor living space that supports the owners’ contemporary lifestyle while remaining sensitive to the original architectural vision and elegance of the home. An Italianate garden, framed by the home’s loggias and a stunning boxwood garden, reinforce the design of the historic property. In contrast, the addition of a pool house and outdoor spa area add a modern touch. A linear lap pool, fountain, patio area, basketball court, and fire pit contrast with elements of the earlier landscape, providing a relaxing private outdoor space with spectacular views of Cranmer Park, and the great Rocky Mountains that dominate the Denver skyline. Small spaces can provide big challenges. These homeowners wanted to include a lot in their tiny backyard! There were also numerous city restrictions to comply with, and elevations to contend with. The design includes several seating areas, a fire feature that can be seen from the home's front entry, a water wall, and retractable screens.
This was a "design only" project. Installation was coordinated by the homeowner and completed by others.

Maximizing the functionality of this space, and coordinating the new kitchen with the beautiful remodel completed previously by the client were the two most important aspects of this project. The existing spaces are elegantly decorated with an open plan, dark hardwood floors, and natural stone accents. The new, lighter, more open kitchen flows beautifully into the client’s existing dining room space. Satin nickel hardware blends with the stainless steel appliances and matches the satin nickel details throughout the home. The fully integrated refrigerator next to the narrow pull-out pantry cabinet, take up less visual weight than a traditional stainless steel appliance and the two combine to provide fantastic storage. The glass cabinet doors and decorative lighting beautifully highlight the client’s glassware and dishes. Finished with white subway tile, Dreamy Marfil quartz countertops, and a warm natural wood blind; the space warm, inviting, elegant, and extremely functional.
