A European modern interpretation to a standard 8'x5' bathroom with a touch of mid-century color scheme for warmth. large format porcelain tile (72x30) was used both for the walls and for the floor. A 3D tile was used for the center wall for accent / focal point. Wall mounted toilet were used to save space. The in-wall toilet system framing enclosure was extruded out 6" allowing a wonderful opportunity to build a custom-made cabinet and an open square shelf. The shower is curb less, so the entire bathroom floor was waterproofed. Large format tile shower floor required a custom cut to allow correct water sloping.

Beckner Contracting was hired to upgrade, as well as preserve and restore, this San Francisco Frank Neutra-designed home to its original pristine condition. Our work included: removing non-conforming interior finishes (track lighting, surface-mounted electrical wiring). Restoring the signature "ribbon" industrial steel windows, a Neutra hallmark. Restoring cabinetry and preserving the red dye interiors – per Neutral's original motif. Using modern materials for the laundry enclosure. Refinishing flooring. Plumbing. Accommodating Mid-Century-style appliances. Correcting energy efficiency deficiencies, etc., etc.

Do you prefer symmetrical rooms? We remembered the client saying they did. For solution #11: We changed the room shape to make it symmetrical. The door to the toilet was changed to the same angle as the shower door. Also notice the niche in the shower, we planned this recessed area during the framing stage, but if plumbing allows, you can often add one after the walls are up. We made it the correct depth to be a handy shelf for shampoo. Also - notice the plush shag rug, light fixture and roman shades. The chandelier is on a dimmer, which looks stunning at night!
