The design for this kids playroom is sunny and bright. The yellow tone on the walls creates a sunny atmosphere and is complemented with the dual blue tones for the trim and paneling. Our client’s charming cottage was no longer meeting the needs of their family. We needed to give them more space but not lose the quaint characteristics that make this little historic home so unique. So we didn’t go up, and we didn’t go wide, instead we took this master suite addition straight out into the backyard and maintained 100% of the original historic façade. Master Suite This master suite is truly a private retreat. We were able to create a variety of zones in this suite to allow room for a good night’s sleep, reading by a roaring fire, or catching up on correspondence. The fireplace became the real focal point in this suite. Wrapped in herringbone whitewashed wood planks and accented with a dark stone hearth and wood mantle, we can’t take our eyes off this beauty. With its own private deck and access to the backyard, there is really no reason to ever leave this little sanctuary. Master Bathroom The master bathroom meets all the homeowner’s modern needs but has plenty of cozy accents that make it feel right at home in the rest of the space. A natural wood vanity with a mixture of brass and bronze metals gives us the right amount of warmth, and contrasts beautifully with the off-white floor tile and its vintage hex shape. Now the shower is where we had a little fun, we introduced the soft matte blue/green tile with satin brass accents, and solid quartz floor (do you see those veins?!). And the commode room is where we had a lot fun, the leopard print wallpaper gives us all lux vibes (rawr!) and pairs just perfectly with the hex floor tile and vintage door hardware. Hall Bathroom We wanted the hall bathroom to drip with vintage charm as well but opted to play with a simpler color palette in this space. We utilized black and white tile with fun patterns (like the little boarder on the floor) and kept this room feeling crisp and bright.

The kitchen finds its greatest expression in the island. Its spaciousness makes it appear majestic, and the overhanging top emphasises its architectural strength. The thick Dekton® top accommodates the integrated sink and Pitt Fire burners, and ends with the breakfast bar. The large tubular hood in painted steel corresponds exactly to the burners and emphasises the vertical lines of the ceiling.

The kitchen as the centre of the home – that was something the whole family wanted. So there is no living space in the traditional sense in the Madrona house, simply causally positioned seating in a range of niches. The openplan kitchen is at the top of the stairs on the first floor and opens up to the outside with floor-to-ceiling windows. The limitation to the bare essentials in terms of furniture and fixtures is characteristic of the interior – the kitchen area looks correspondingly spacious with units right down to the floor, one streamlined unit run and a dining table. Our ambition for Bodega Bauer was to create an architecture that was informed by the same particularities of the earth which are embodied in the wine of the region. Siting and materiality are guided by the subtleties of sun and wind exposure, climate, the unexpected nuances of each season, and the presence and absence of water and shade. The Incan irrigation technology that made the region habitable since pre-Columbian times by channeling snow melt from the Andes, was a powerful source of inspiration. Extending this system of ancient waterways, a central channel connects the house to the winery, and becomes a collector for water harvested from the building’s rooftops for irrigation. The new channel guides visitors along a sensuous journey through which one encounters the elements – sun, wind, soil, and water – which make the wine unique. What emerges is an architecture that accentuates its environment, and is at one with the raw, bold spirit of Mendoza. Along the irrigation channel, two linear forms – one descending, the other rising out of the ground – evoke the correspondence of architecture and wine. The descending structure is the wine-making facility which follows the gravity fed wine making process into the barrel aging vault below. The ascending structure allows the visitor to see how the wine is made, and culminates with a tasting room overlooking the vineyards and landscape. The forms of the winery create a playful interplay of sloping planes that allow the subtle topography of the ground to be perceived.

The dining room of this open concept floor plan is right off the front entry, so the color scheme and style flow through both spaces. We were able to reuse a dining set from a previous model, but updated it with gray and white patterned fabrics and a bright floral arrangement that corresponded with the contemporary art piece hanging over the console in the entryway. The Architect House is located on a breathtaking five-acre property in Great Falls, VA. This modern home was designed to shape itself into the site and landscape. By doing so each indoor space individually responds to the corresponding outdoor space. The entire house is then able to knit itself together with spaces that freely flow together from inside and out. The orientation of the house allows sunlight to tell the time of the day while you are inside. Upon entering you see straight through a central atrium and into the landscape beyond. Natural light and views of nature are captured from every angle inside the home. The modern exterior design of the house utilizes a linear brick at the base of the house that anchors it to the land. Gray and cedar colored modern architectural panel siding alternate patterns on all facades of the house, accentuating the different volumes. These volumes are then capped off by low sloping metal panel roofs. Exposed steel beans and columns are utilized to create long spans of covered outdoor spaces that then easily recede into the backdrop of the landscape. The design of this modern home is in harmony with the site and landscape creating a warm welcoming feeling and one that conveys that the house belongs there.

Sunday, September 27, 11:00am to 12:30pm | Chicago Historic Wicker Park Mansion by Brian Culliton and Tony Quinn of Culliton Quinn Landscape Architecture Sitting on four city lots in historic Wicker Park, the renovation of this 1879 Victorian home created two front entries with corresponding gardens and a private sitting space, all while integrating traditional Victorian garden elements into the overall design. Salvaged materials gave the new garden an antique character. An aging Joliet stone kneewall surrounded the old property with an original fence by Stewart Iron Works. The fence was meticulously restored and missing components were carefully replicated and replaced. The existing wall could not be reset, therefore, a new kneewall was fabricated to match the original stone profile. Large slabs from the existing wall were reused for the entry steps and kitchen garden copings. Pieces of the kneewall foundation were also recycled as flatwork in the hardscape, mixed with newer Wisconsin flagstone. A traditional boxwood parterre highlights the main entry and two Sargent Crabapples frame the pathway into a large formal lawn. A sunken gravel garden is situated at the far end of the lawn with vegetable beds and ample seating for entertaining. This bathroom was added to the vintage 1915 floor plan. The subway tile with its detailed cap is a perfect backdrop for the pair of sinks and corresponding Robern smart medicine cabinets.

This beautiful Vienna, VA needed a two-story addition on the existing home frame. Our expert team designed and built this major project with many new features. This remodel project includes three bedrooms, staircase, two full bathrooms, and closets including two walk-in closets. Plenty of storage space is included in each vanity along with plenty of lighting using sconce lights. Three carpeted bedrooms with corresponding closets. Master bedroom with his and hers walk-in closets, master bathroom with double vanity and standing shower and separate toilet room. Bathrooms includes hardwood flooring. Building a Dream Home For the past 30 years, John Bleeker has been designing notable homes and renowned buildings in the area, which have been published in numerous magazines. Mr. Bleeker was looking for a particular coloration of materials that Braen Supply would be providing. In order to meet the needs of the customer, a custom blend of granites were created providing him with the exact coloration that he was looking for. The remaining materials were selected to correspond with the custom blend, creating a home that anyone would dream to live in. Bleeker Architectural Group has been designing notable homes and buildings in the area since 1999.

This beautiful kitchen is an update of a kitchen remodel I did for these favorite clients 20+ yeaers ago. We originally opened up a '50's era remodeled kitchen to a new family room addition and gave the kitchen a look that matched the 1914 vintage Craftsman Bungalow home. Flash forward to kids grown up and extended family expanding to include spouses & grandchildren and a growing love of entertaining in this lovely home. We now were tasked with opening the kitchen up to the original living and dining room of the home, which meant rearranging the former U-shaped kitchen into a corridor kitchen with an enlarged island. The added natural light and expansion into the beautiful architecture of the dining and living room beyond grew the capacity for entertaining to correspond with the growing repetoire of family and friends. This immaculate home has increased square footage and value due to the new carriage house and additions. In order to keep in step with everything this prestigious home currently has to offer we have incorporated the carriage house. The carriage house has additional space in back through the double doors and we have matched the exterior of the main house perfectly with cedar shakes and exterior corresponding brick. Be sure to notice the custom carpentry on the ceiling, columns and crown molding as you view the picture of the beautiful breezeway. No detail will be left unnoticed as friends and family walk along the custom concrete creation from the carriage house to the main house. The classic new entryway is so welcoming as you enter the main house though the wooden framed glass doors continuing up the stairs to the main floor.

Complete reconstruction of family house was inspired by elegant French style. The city house decorated in mainly bright colours connects concrete with wood and industrial parts with furniture from all over the world. There were several major changes made during the reconstruction: The old staircase was repealed and there was created a new one, elegant, on a completely different place, which better corresponds with the central open space. In the lower part of the house there is a kitchen connected with a living room, so it resulted in a creation of one large living space, dominated by a new double-sided fireplace with a concrete trowel set in a load-bearing central support.
