Situated in old Palo Alto, CA, this historic 1905 Craftsman style home now has a stunning landscape to match its custom hand-crafted interior. Our firm had a blank slate with the landscape, and carved out a number of spaces that this young and vibrant family could use for gathering, entertaining, dining, gardening and general relaxation. Mature screen planting, colorful perennials, citrus trees, ornamental grasses, and lots of depth and texture are found throughout the many planting beds. In effort to conserve water, the main open spaces were covered with a foot friendly, decorative gravel. Giving the family a great space for large gatherings, all while saving water.

The transition to several garden rooms, a gravel path leads from the rear terrace to the many spaces. The entry is flanked by the New England fieldstone seat wall, capped in blue stone. Lush plantings surround the pavers that curve and lead to the pool area. Beyond that is the lawn and tucked away in the trees are the accessory building, sport court, and outdoor shower. Throughout the landscape, we mixed formality with touches of whimsy -- spiral topiary boxwood, bright dashes of colorful flowers, contrasting textures. When we teamed up with this young family for a renovation, we created an outdoor space satisfying the needs of all the members of their family.

Delphiniums and snapdragons add sparkle to this mid-summer cottage garden. This Cape Cod garden includes dahlias, daylilies and a traditional border planting of French yellow marigolds, dusty miller, alyssum and ageratum.
