Extensive storage and counter space help make laundry chores easier in this multi-purpose laundry room. Front-loading, side-by-side washer and dryer are state-of-the-art. For a personal touch, I framed my client's treasured collection of Norman Rockwell plates and displayed them around the window. The red-edged tile picks up the red accents throughout the room. The major objective of this home was to craft something entirely unique; based on our client’s international travels, and tailored to their ideal lifestyle. Every detail, selection and method was individual to this project. The design included personal touches like a dog shower for their Great Dane, a bar downstairs to entertain, and a TV tucked away in the den instead of on display in the living room. Great design doesn’t just happen. It’s a product of work, thought and exploration. For our clients, they looked to hotels they love in New York and Croatia, Danish design, and buildings that are architecturally artistic and ideal for displaying art. Our part was to take these ideas and actually build them. Every door knob, hinge, material, color, etc. was meticulously researched and crafted. Most of the selections are custom built either by us, or by hired craftsman.

The home’s interior was transformed to reflect more of the family’s personal style. A mix of soft colors, textures, and bold patterns in the living room enhance the quartersawn oak trim and the client’s collection of Arts and Crafts furniture. Large unused doors leading to the porch were replaced with high windows, allowing for a more functional seating arrangement.

Design details that add personality include softly curved edges on the walls and soffits, a geometric cut-out on the stairwell and custom cabinetry that carries through all the rooms. Going beyond a standard built in closet Henry hand crafted custom drawer pulls with solid Walnut inlays and personally finished the doors and drawers in his own mix of “Designer White” – a long lasting matte white spray finish.
