Interactive Construction’s second Passive House shows that it is possible to achieve this high level of energy efficiency in even the tightest of lots. This build challenged the common assumption that you need a lot of south facing windows to achieve the Passive House certification. The relatively small solar gains from the limited southern exposure was made up for with an extremely tight air-barrier, a top of the line HRV, and higher R-values of insulation. To achieve the best indoor air quality, low-VOC products were used in the finishes. Solid Maple flooring was used throughout the upper levels to create a beautiful look without the chemicals found in engineered flooring. Aging-in-place was key to the design, with a central elevator and accessible door sizes and shower access. Smart design can make homes for versatile over their lifespan which reduces the need for costly renovations in the future. Both the indoor and outdoor areas blend to create tranquil and calm-inspiring spaces. What the homeowners had to say: Each area works well for its purpose. Remodeled beach home for client retiring here in San Diego. Warm gray tones grace this distinctive coastal style home. We removed a wall between the kitchen and dining room, removed dropped ceiling and creating a interactive eating bar for visiting friends and family.

The idea of this project was to create a special environment that stimulates all senses in the human body, an environment that is vibrant and most importantly interactive for all ages. We began by searching for the right materials to create a specific feeling of time and space. Placement of the water feature was designed by studying how the customer used their home. The waterfalls and streams connect separate outdoor spaces and accommodate for all views outdoors and indoors. A sense of mystery is designed into every detail in this water feature. The layout of the ponds play accordingly with the sun for excellent reflections, and each rock formation has time designed into it. The environment is inviting, and interactive. Each person that walks out to explore the environment has his or her curiosity rewarded by discovering plant life, trickling streams, and several waterfalls only to be discovered by the inquisitive explorer. The master bedroom suite serves as the couple's exotic oasis located at the end of a short hallway adjacent to the main living area. A muted steel gray/purple color palette and fabrics rich in texture and tonal patterns create a dreamy and tranquil world. The tiled feature wall in the Master Bath is a dramatic backdrop for an organic shaped contemporary tub and floating cabinetry. Varied texture rules here, as both matte and polished finishes and cotton/wool textiles joyfully play interactively.

Remodeled beach home for client retiring here in San Diego. Warm gray tones grace this distinctive coastal style home. We removed a wall between the kitchen and dining room, removed dropped ceiling and creating a interactive eating bar for visiting friends and family.

A custom-made wipe-off magnet board creates a space for artistic expression and interactive play with magnets that picture different feelings and emotions. A series of plants installed on the wall above create a living green space that brings the serenity of nature into the playroom.

The primary goal for this new kitchen project was to create a space that would work well for a single father and have a masculine, contemporary feel to the design. The homeowner wanted to be able to interact with his daughter while he worked in the kitchen. The solution was to create a spacious, open layout with a blend of matte black and rich walnut cabinetry.
