This opened up the lot for a design that's efficient and fits today's needs, turning challenges into a better way to live. The concept focuses on clean, flowing lines – stone bases with sloped roofs, steel railings, and a kitchen that's simple yet elegant. Glass walls slide away to connect inside with a shaded deck, making everything feel expansive. We applied modern builds for strength and style, with solar panels cutting energy use and costs. It's made to last, blending beauty with real-world toughness. Spacious and open, with four bedrooms and baths for comfort. The main floor links living, kitchen, and deck seamlessly, while upstairs adds more outdoor space for views and relaxation. A new-construction, year-round vacation home was custom-built for a family to enjoy the natural beauty of West Marin, California. The home is sited on the beach, so understanding how to build on sand (instead of soil) and selecting the right materials that would withstand ongoing erosion from the ocean and salt air were both critical to the success of the project. Even in the most ideal circumstances climate can present challenges, but as this was a COVID-era project in a relatively remote location, we also faced supply chain issues and labor issues. Fortunately, we were able to draw on our decades of experience to identify solutions and work collaboratively with the geotechnical engineer, structural engineer, and subcontractors to ensure that everyone was aligned on the design vision and how we would achieve it. Our backgrounds as craftspeople and the project manager’s experience as an architect allowed our team to work in lockstep with the design team.

Overview: Wing-like roofline houses a dramatic white villa in Costa Rica jungle. Studio Saxe was commissioned to design a villa on the hilltops of Santiago in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. The primary objective was not only to provide dwellers with a connection with its jungle surroundings but also to generate an intimate relationship with an amazing view of the shoreline which brings its dwellers back to a more profound appreciation of the natural world. Concept Studio Saxe decided to create a large roof that would house within a series of bedrooms and living spaces that would all be turned sideways in order to face the prominent views. Interstitial spaces within the living volumes create gaps that enhance a deeper connection to the natural surroundings whilst moving about the dwelling. Design Every space in the home has been angled to view the ocean, and this twist creates a geometric relationship between the roofline and the spaces that became the primary element of design that both addresses the need for large overhangs (for climate control and comfort) but also generates a literal connection between the view and every space. This white house in the jungle acts as a canvas so that morning and sunset light reflect on its surfaces creating an array of colors that vary throughout the day. The angled surfaces also allow for the reflection of shadows and the textures of nature to play within the interstitial spaces that exist between the living spaces. Construction Due to the remoteness of the location and difficult access, Studio Saxe decided to create a light steel frame that could be prefabricated off-site, brought, and assembled in a fast and effective way. This not only ensured the quality of the construction in a very remote location, but it also allowed the process of construction to be very light touch and the intervention on the site to be very minimal while creating the sensation of large open spaces that bring the view in and at the same time are protected by a large roof held by steel “I” beams. Sustainability At Studio Saxe we believe that proper design with nature should be the first focus of sustainability and thus, this villa has been oriented properly to take advantage of predominant winds for cooling. Also, long overhangs protect from the sun and the rain in the most critical parts of the day creating comfort without the use of energy. A light touch construction method meant that the impact on the site was minimal during the implementation of the villa and the extended roofline also serves as a means to collect water and energy generation.

A built-in office nook incorporates custom millwork, integrated shelving, and warm wood surfaces, offering a quiet, tailored workspace that aligns with the home’s overall design language.

Second of course to function, determining what materials to use and how to combine is critically important when designing a space. The client wanted highly durable, and Earth-Friendly materials, but loved the aesthetic of concrete and rustic Walnut. The solution is textured MDF cabinetry from Bauformat (Germany). The island and upper cabinetry is a board-formed concrete look, while the perimeter base cabinetry is a rustic Walnut look. Both are laser edge-banded for a precise finish, incredible durability and resistance to atmospheric factors like humidity and UV.

Kitchen - mediterranean kitchen idea in Dallas

The first thing you notice about this property is the stunning views of the mountains, and our clients wanted to showcase this. We selected pieces that complement and highlight the scenery. Our clients were in love with their brown leather couches, so we knew we wanted to keep them from the beginning. This was the focal point for the selections in the living room, and we were able to create a cohesive, rustic, mountain-chic space. The home office was another critical part of the project as both clients work from home. We repurposed a handmade table that was made by the client’s family and used it as a double-sided desk. We painted the fireplace in a gorgeous green accent to make it pop. Finding the balance between statement pieces and statement views made this project a unique and incredibly rewarding experience. Our customers loved their home's kitchen but felt that it didn't convey their personal tastes and aesthetics. Not only did they want a kitchen that was brighter and had better functionality (they are dedicated home cooks), they wanted a more industrial look and feel to the space. Our design team helped give them this by creatively adding and updating many parts of the kitchen, including the glass-walled cabinets, wine cabinet area, beverage center, and more. Important design features include the pull outs for spices and kitchen tools which had to be sturdy to withstand constant use. MOSS relocated the appliances, enlarged the side peninsula and updated the mudroom and pantry. One important part of the remodel was keeping the flooring the same as the original – patching in the flooring was critical and, while delayed due to supply chain issues, is now perfectly in place.

Inspiration for a timeless entryway remodel in Minneapolis

These homeowners wanted to freshen up their master bath and at the same time, improve it's overall function and retain/accentuate it's vintage qualities. There was nothing wrong with the hex tile floor, toilet, or vintage tub. The toilet was repurposed, the floor was cleaned up, and the tub refinished. Cabinetry and vintage trim was added in critical locations along with a new, taller one-sink vanity. Located in, Summit Park, Park City UT lies one of the most efficient houses in the country. The Summit Haus – designed and built by Chris Price of PCD+B, is an exploration in design and construction of advanced high performance housing. Seeing a rising demand for sustainable housing along with rising Carbon emissions leading to global warming, this house strives to show that sensible, good design can create spaces adequate for today’s housing demands while adhering to strict standards. The house was designed to meet the very rigid Passiv House rating system – 90% more efficient than a typical home in the area. The house itself was intended to nestle neatly into the 45 degree sloped site and to take full advantage of the limited solar access and views. The views range from short, highly wooded views to a long corridor out towards the Uinta Mountain range towards the east. The house was designed and built based off Passiv Haus standards, and the framing and ventilation became critical elements to maintain such minimal energy requirements. Zola triple-pane, tilt-and-turn Thermo uPVC windows contribute substantially to the home’s energy efficiency, and takes advantage of the beautiful surrounding of the location, including forrest views from the deck off of the kitchen.
