Perkins Eastman designed a new 55,000 sf dining destination that serves as the focal point for uniting and reinvigorating the South Village neighborhood of the UNC Charlotte campus. The new building serves as a dynamic gathering space for students to eat and socialize. The Lower Level is a full Market Place Dining Facility while the Upper Level incorporates Neighborhood Lounges for students to gather, socialize, study and enjoy the views of Davis Lake. The Spark Modern Fire 3 Sided Vu-Thru Fire Ribbons were used to divide the upper level into neighborhoods to create more intimate spaces. The fireplaces have wide \"hearths\" that can also be used for seating. The surrounds use contemporary earth tone horizontally banded tiles with gypsum board surrounds in bright energizing colors. The fireplaces added warmth (both literally and figuratively) to a dynamic space with direct connections to the beautiful wooded site. The project was awarded three out of four Green Globes by the U.S. Green Building Initiative's Green Globe Rating system demonstrating excellent progress in achieving eco-efficiency results through current best practices in energy and environmental design. The couple who embarked on this Lake Zurich Illinois home renovation spent years planning a move from Virginia to the rolling hills of Northern Illinois when their first grandchild was born. Wanting to be closer to their grown children so they could enjoy their new role, they first embarked upon finding the right realtor and the right home. They settled on the “perfect” home; perfect that is to transform. The seriously outdated 1,800 square foot ranch had a closed outdated kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a living room with a fireplace, a full basement and 2 baths. Although it had “good bones”, it was straight out of a builder’s catalog with wall to wall carpet, standard tile and honey oak everywhere you looked. But this couple had big plans for this home. In tandem with their home purchase, they began the search for the just the right renovation company. The team they chose needed to be cohesive, as the whole house renovation would be designed hundreds of miles from their home several states away. She found Advance Design Studio, Ltd. online, and was quickly enamored by the team and by Common Sense Remodeling, simply by studying the website. Her decision to choose Advance Design to partner on this complete ranch renovation was confirmed quickly upon her first face to face meeting with owner Todd Jurs, and later by Advance’s designer, Nicole Ryan. Three bedrooms were converted into a one master suite with ample bath and walk in closet, laundry, and a 2nd multi-purpose room designed for movies and entertainment, a home office, and a guest room all in one. A doorway leading to the garage was reconfigured to create a foyer area, and allowed for a better flow to an open modern kitchen complete with a large island for cooking and entertaining, which included a wide bench seat overlooking the back yard and opening onto an eating area flanked with a fireplace and TV. The piece de resistance culminated with 3 walls of full glass anchored by a striking fireplace in the new four season’s room where the homeowners enjoy coffee every morning while gazing at the current day’s mid-western landscape. The open floorplan encourages living in “one space” throughout the day. Ryan worked with the couple remotely, exchanging 3D color renderings and floorplans with detailed budget updates until the project took on the very image they had envisioned. “Working with them was a change from our normal meeting process since they were literally in a different state. We conducted meetings by phone, while reviewing materials and drawings via computer. It was a fun process that necessitated lots of detail and careful coordination, but we made it happen and the process was as smooth as if they were right here like normal”, says Nicole. During a stressful time planning their move, the constant interaction with Nicole assured the couple that all was being addressed by the Advance team and they could relax and focus on other important things (like moving cross country). The new master bath incorporated heated flooring, a walk in shower with seating and custom shower niches, and an elegant double sink vanity with ample space for two. “The layout of each of the rooms is exactly what I envisioned,” the client said. “Advance’s attention to details such as light switch placement, electrical outlets, and many other minute details you wouldn’t even think of was the icing on the cake. If I didn’t think of it first, they certainly did,” said the happy homeowner. Small details like the crown molding, the custom designed fireplace mantle, the under-cabinet lighting and etched door glass, and even subtle rhinestones shimmering like delicate jewelry in the tile backsplash brought the whole project together. The clients were extremely happy with the way the Advance team made sure these small things were executed perfectly. “It’s just gorgeous,” they said at a celebratory event in their home hosted shortly after completion for the entire Advance Design team that made it happen. “The entire crew at Advance Design was a pleasure to work with. Perched above the beautiful Delaware River in the historic village of New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania sits this magnificent custom home designed by OMNIA Group Architects. According to Partner, Brian Mann,"This riverside property required a nuanced approach so that it could at once be both a part of this eclectic village streetscape and take advantage of the spectacular waterfront setting." Further complicating the study, the lot was narrow, it resides in the floodplain and the program required the Master Suite to be on the main level. To meet these demands, OMNIA dispensed with conventional historicist styles and created an open plan blended with traditional forms punctuated by vast rows of glass windows and doors to bring in the panoramic views of Lambertville, the bridge, the wooded opposite bank and the river. Mann adds, "Because I too live along the river, I have a special respect for its ever changing beauty - and I appreciate that riverfront structures have a responsibility to enhance the views from those on the water." Hence the riverside facade is as beautiful as the street facade. A sweeping front porch integrates the entry with the vibrant pedestrian streetscape. Low garden walls enclose a beautifully landscaped courtyard defining private space without turning its back on the street. Once inside, the natural setting explodes into view across the back of each of the main living spaces. For a home with so few walls, spaces feel surprisingly intimate and well defined. The foyer is elegant and features a free flowing curved stair that rises in a turret like enclosure dotted with windows that follow the ascending stairs like a sculpture. "Using changes in ceiling height, finish materials and lighting, we were able to define spaces without boxing spaces in" says Mann adding, "the dynamic horizontality of the river is echoed along the axis of the living space; the natural movement from kitchen to dining to living rooms following the current of the river." Service elements are concentrated along the front to create a visual and noise barrier from the street and buttress a calm hall that leads to the Master Suite. The master bedroom shares the views of the river, while the bath and closet program are set up for pure luxuriating. The second floor features a common loft area with a large balcony overlooking the water. Two children's suites flank the loft - each with their own exquisitely crafted baths and closets. Continuing the balance between street and river, an open air bell-tower sits above the entry porch to bring life and light to the street. Outdoor living was part of the program from the start. A covered porch with outdoor kitchen and dining and lounge area and a fireplace brings 3-season living to the river. And a lovely curved patio lounge surrounded by grand landscaping by LDG finishes the experience. This late 90’s home was ready for a refresh, and boy did we have fun delivering just that! Fully renovating the kitchen, family room, dining room, laundry room, entry, and study as well as converting an unused formal room to a wine lounge allowed us to update the first floor of this home in a meaningful way. Lightening and brightening the walls and completely redoing all furnishings and decor, were just the beginning. The kitchen’s complete redesign involved moving obtrusive walls, creating more functional spaces, and incorporating current design trends. Fresh greens and blues were chosen to brighten the spaces, and texture was integrated to keep an organic feel. The clients are so pleased, we’re now embarking on Phase 2!

The rest of the house had been augmented incrementally over time and the roofline beyond the original structure had become convoluted and the flanking elevations nonsensical. The current owners preserved the original 1910 farmhouse portion of the home and took the rest of the structure down to the foundation. A simple modern black barn was designed to run perpendicular with the old farmhouse structure and painted black in stark contrast to its old, white counterpart. Siding runs vertically on the new section as opposed to the horizontal shiplapped siding on the old. The new structure houses the kitchen with 12’ cathedral ceilings, a pantry / mudroom and a study. The kitchen boasts a 1930’s island reclaimed from a commercial bakery and pendant lights from an old schoolhouse in Ohio as its nucleus, against a quiet backdrop of black stained oak cabinetry. Gently veined quartzite slabs serve as countertop, backsplash and wrap the stove hood to accentuate the ceiling height. The interior design of this home is a carefully balanced alchemy of antiquity and modernity. It has an overriding monochromatic theme with layers of pattern and texture for depth. The color interest is derived from the lush outside landscape, with the exception of their daughter’s bedroom which is a tasteful symphony of pink, landed by a hand painted mural. The theme of the home is framed around comfortable family living against curated backdrops of beloved collected items. The living room boasts no less than nineteen vintage crystal

Today I present a new project of my ethno-style mural. Several years ago I began to think about the development of modern interior design, since it is important for me not only to fill the space with things and colors, but also to express the very foundations, the origins of life. I spent a lot of time in museums of decorative arts in Paris, Vienna, London, studying samples of ancient culture. For several years I went on long ethnographic travels and collected a small collection of antiques and vintage items. My maternal grandmother was a People's Artist of Ukraine in the technique of national embroidery and gave me a big love for decorative arts. Today I present a project based on my research and new understanding of embroidery in a modern interior. Basis: ancient "Reshetilovskaya" embroidery from the Poltava region. I completed the mural by transferring the old pattern to the wall. The work lasted 6 months, including research, sketches, preparation, color schemes, fitting. I also used a bit of gilding. In the current environment, this type of interior decoration is sustainable, relevant, and very inspiring. The project has not been published anywhere before. If you are interested, I will send a photo and all the necessary materials and descriptions. I also have all my diplomas and certificates and ready to present them on request.

This is one of the bedrooms from a full home design created for my client, Thomas. The project includes 3 bedrooms, family spaces, and custom closets — renovations are currently underway! For this room, the client requested a bunk bed with a built-in study nook and a relaxed chill zone, while still incorporating their existing drawer unit. The design balances functionality with comfort, perfect for a growing child’s space. Included is a look at the starting phase so you can see the transformation taking shape.

The homeowners collaborated with Schulte Design Build to design and transform their kitchen into a more functional standout space for their family’s growing needs. This large multi-space was designed to be a light, open, and vibrant space for cooking, eating, and studying, as well as an easy place for family and friends to gather. The dark wood cabinets were replaced with ceiling-height white shaker cabinets, a long island was added to the length of the space, and the lighting was reconfigured to highlight the new task areas. A black countertop that now lines the walls to create contrast for the perimeter, while the new marble herringbone backsplash adds a unique spin on the traditional subway tile. The clients are thrilled with the results!
