This Historical Home was built in the Columbia Country Club in 1925 and was ready for a new, modern kitchen which kept the traditional feel of the home. A previous sunroom addition created a dining room, but the original kitchen layout kept the two rooms divided. The kitchen was a small and cramped c-shape with a narrow door leading into the dining area. The kitchen and dining room were completely opened up, creating a long, galley style, open layout which maximized the space and created a very good flow. Dimensions In Wood worked in conjuction with the client’s architect and contractor to complete this renovation. Custom cabinets were built to use every square inch of the floorplan, with the cabinets extending all the way to the ceiling for the most storage possible. Our woodworkers even created a step stool, staining it to match the kitchen for reaching these high cabinets. The family already had a kitchen table and chairs they were happy with, so we refurbished them to match the kitchen’s new stain and paint color. Crown molding top the cabinet boxes and extends across the ceiling where they create a coffered ceiling, highlighting the beautiful light fixtures centered on a wood medallion. Columns were custom built to provide separation between the different sections of the kitchen, while also providing structural support. Our master craftsmen kept the original 1925 glass cabinet doors, fitted them with modern hardware, repainted and incorporated them into new cabinet boxes. TASK LED Lighting was added to this china cabinet, highlighting the family’s decorative dishes. Appliance Garage On one side of the kitchen we built an appliance garage with doors that slide back into the cabinet, integrated power outlets and door activated lighting. Beside this is a small Galley Workstation for beverage and bar service which has the Galley Bar Kit perfect for sliced limes and more. Baking Cabinet with Pocket Doors On the opposite side, a baking cabinet was built to house a mixer and all the supplies needed for creating confections. Automatic LED lights, triggered by opening the door, create a perfect baker’s workstation. Both pocket doors slide back inside the cabinet for maximum workspace, then close to hide everything, leaving a clean, minimal kitchen devoid of clutter. Super deep, custom drawers feature custom dividers beneath the baking cabinet. Then beneath the appliance garage another deep drawer has custom crafted produce boxes per the customer’s request. Central to the kitchen is a walnut accent island with a granite countertop and a Stainless Steel Galley Workstation and an overhang for seating. Matching bar stools slide out of the way, under the overhang, when not in use. A color matched outlet cover hides power for the island whenever appliances are needed during preparation. The Galley Workstation has several useful attachments like a cutting board, drying rack, colander holder, and more. Integrated into the stone countertops are a drinking water spigot, a soap dispenser, garbage disposal button and the pull out, sprayer integrated faucet. Directly across from the conveniently positioned stainless steel sink is a Bertazzoni Italia stove with 5 burner cooktop. A custom mosaic tile backsplash makes a beautiful focal point. Then, on opposite sides of the stove, columns conceal Rev-a-Shelf pull out towers which are great for storing small items, spices, and more. All outlets on the stone covered walls also sport dual USB outlets for charging mobile devices. Stainless Steel Whirlpool appliances throughout keep a consistent and clean look. The oven has a matching microwave above it which also works as a convection oven. Dual Whirlpool dishwashers can handle all the family’s dirty dishes. The flooring has black, marble tile inlays surrounded by ceramic tile, which are period correct for the age of this home, while still being modern, durable and easy to clean. Finally, just off the kitchen we also remodeled their bar and snack alcove. A small liquor cabinet, with a refrigerator and wine fridge sits opposite a snack bar and wine glass cabinets. Crown molding, granite countertops and cabinets were all customized to match this space with the rest of the stunning kitchen. Dimensions In Wood is more than 40 years of custom cabinets. Our clients were ready to trade in their 1950s kitchen (faux brick and all) for a more contemporary space that could accommodate their growing family. We were more then happy to tear down the walls that hid their kitchen to create some simply irresistible sightlines! Along with opening up the spaces in this home, we wanted to design a kitchen that was filled with clean lines and moments of blissful details. Kitchen- Crisp white cabinetry paired with a soft grey backsplash tile and a warm butcher block countertop provide the perfect clean backdrop for the rest of the home. We utilized a deep grey cabinet finish on the island and contrasted it with a lovely white quartz countertop. Our great obsession is the island ceiling lights! The soft linen shades and linear black details set the tone for the whole space and tie in beautifully with the geometric light fixture we brought into the dining room. Bathroom- Gone are the days of florescent lights and oak medicine cabinets, make way for a modern bathroom that leans it clean geometric lines. We carried the simple color pallet into the bathroom with grey hex floors, a high variation white wall tile, and deep wood tones at the vanity. Simple black accents create moments of interest through out this calm little space.

This light filled laundry room is as functional as it is beautiful. It features a vented clothes drying cabinet, complete with a hanging rod for air drying clothes and pullout mesh racks for drying t-shirts or delicates. The handy dog shower makes it easier to keep Fido clean and the full height wall tile makes cleaning a breeze. Open shelves above the dog shower provide a handy spot for rolled up towels, dog shampoo and dog treats. A laundry soaking sink, a custom pullout cabinet for hanging mops, brooms and other cleaning supplies, and ample cabinet storage make this a dream laundry room. Design accents include a fun octagon wall tile and a whimsical gold basket light fixture.

The massive undulating lot gives a spacious open feeling to the yard, while the focal point is a 16’ x 36’ vinyl liner pool surrounded by a spacious deck in architectural stamped concrete. The contrasting black Wiarton flagstone coping helps to define the simple clean lines of the design.

Our clients who are empty nesters, spend much of their time in the kitchen and family room so we focused on these spaces keeping in mind that the more formal spaces on the main floor will follow in a few years time. For the most part the layout of their kitchen worked well for them so our role was to tweak the kitchen and family room furniture layout and to select updated finishes and furnishings. Since this home transformation is not happening all at once, we purposefully selected classic finishes, like antique brass hardware, that will tie in with the rest of the home's decor until it can be updated. The resulting refresh stays true to the original feel of the house while giving it a clean, updated look.

A hip young family moving from Boston tackled an enormous makeover of an antique colonial revival home in downtown Larchmont. The kitchen area was quite spacious but benefitted from a small bump out for a banquette and additional windows. Navy blue island and tall cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Van Deusen blue is balanced by crisp white (Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace) cabinetry on the perimeter. The mid-century inspired suspended fireplace adds warmth and style to the kitchen. A tile covered range hood blends the ventilation into the walls. Brushed brass hardware by Lewis Dolan in a contemporary T-bar shape offer clean lines in a warm metallic tone. Vaulted ceilings are highlighted by the beautiful rhythm of the beams, giving the Kitchen of our Lake Country Retreat a bright and spacious feeling. Appliances, a sink, and a microwave drawer at the island are seamlessly integrated for efficient cooking and cleanup. The island takes center stage with an uninterrupted solid quartzite countertop, giving the island a clean, table-like feel that is perfect for casual meals and conversation.

Airy, open, and connected to the lake...at our Lake Country Retreat, the Great Room captures the spirit of coastal living. We used a bright white palette, and tongue and groove ceiling panel framed by beams to set the design theme throughout. Each space is defined, yet the floorplan's open sightlines create a seamless sense of connection and maximize the lake views from every angle.

This timeless transitional kitchen blends classic design with modern functionality. White shaker perimeter cabinets are paired with Cambria Gladstone quartz countertops and a full-height backsplash for a seamless, polished look. A contrasting black shaker island seats three and is topped with the same quartz, anchoring the space with elegance and practicality. Key features include a large wood-scooped custom vent hood over a 48" Wolf range, a 36" Thermador refrigerator, and full-height cabinetry for maximum storage. A hidden microwave behind a lift-up appliance garage keeps counters clutter-free, while thoughtful storage—like a 12" spice pull-out, lazy Susan, trash pull-out, and deep 36" drawers with custom organizers—maximizes efficiency. The brushed brass Top Knobs hardware adds warmth and contrast against the cabinetry, complemented by a matte black Kohler Crue faucet and black Blanco undermount sink. Light wood flooring and floating shelves soften the space, while a large window floods the kitchen with natural light—eliminating the need for pendant lighting over the island and maintaining clean sightlines. A perfect balance of beauty and function, this kitchen was designed for modern living with timeless appeal.
