For this project, we elevated the look of a beautiful wooden exterior with a deep, rich dark shade that enhances both style and durability. The bold color choice brings a modern yet timeless appeal, perfectly complementing the natural white details. Using high-quality, weather-resistant paint, we ensured long-lasting protection against the elements while maintaining the home's warmth and character. The result? A striking, elegant finish that stands out while blending harmoniously with its surroundings.

Our clients desperately needed a new master bathroom that had a better function, flow and aesthetic. Incorporating all of the family’s needs and desires, Progressive Design Build designed a new layout that accomplished all of their goals.
We started by removing the large Jacuzzi tub and tub deck and moving the vanity to the old shower location, making room for a new walk-in shower and heated towel bar that the owners wanted.
During demolition, a unique challenge presented itself. We found a vent pipe in the middle of the new vanity cabinet location, which wasn’t part of the original building drawings. Due to its location in a high-rise condo, which also serviced some of the floors below, we couldn’t move the pipe very far.
Through creative planning meetings and design, as well as innovative cabinetry solutions, we were able to work around the pipe.
The finishes on the project were much more contemporary giving the new master bathroom a subtle sophistication and understated elegance. The cabinets were designed with straight, simple lines and they were custom built with a deep, rich brown finish. The richness of the dark cabinetry juxtaposed with the elegance of the white porcelain tile floor and white Quartzite countertop, contributed to the room’s sophistication and the modern look that the clients desired.
In the end, all project goals were achieved!

When it comes to defining a space, few elements are as transformative as a rug. Particularly in larger rooms, 9x12 rugs play a pivotal role in anchoring furniture, unifying aesthetics, and providing comfort underfoot. As home design continues to evolve, so do the styles, materials, and motifs that define contemporary rug choices. Whether you're redesigning a single room or curating an entire home, choosing the right 9x12 rug can dramatically influence the tone and function of your space. This blog explores the transition from classic to contemporary rug styles, highlighting current trends in design, texture, and sustainability. Read on to discover how 9x12 rugs are being used to redefine modern living environments in 2025.
Classic Rug Designs: Timeless Elegance and Historical Influence
Classic rugs have always been synonymous with tradition, craftsmanship, and sophistication. These pieces often draw inspiration from centuries-old techniques and cultural aesthetics, primarily seen in Persian, Oriental, and Turkish designs. A 9x12 classic rug is not merely a floor covering but a narrative woven through intricate patterns and deep, rich colors.
Traditional rug styles typically feature ornate borders, central medallions, and floral or geometric motifs. Colors like burgundy, deep navy, ivory, forest green, and gold dominate these designs, making them ideal for creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. The materials used often high-quality wool or silk add a luxurious texture and long-lasting durability. Hand-knotted techniques passed down through generations lend these rugs their intricate detail and resilience.
Today, classic rugs are being reimagined to fit modern sensibilities. Interior designers are pairing antique Persian rugs with contemporary furniture to create a unique, eclectic mix. For instance, a vintage 9x12 Rugs might lie beneath a minimalist glass coffee table and a sleek leather sectional, marrying old-world charm with modern clarity. In open-plan layouts, these rugs help delineate spaces and introduce visual interest. Their timeless beauty ensures that they remain relevant, even as design trends shift.
Moreover, the reintroduction of classic designs in modern colorways has allowed traditional rugs to appeal to a new generation. Muted tones, distressed finishes, and faded patterns give these rugs a more relaxed, lived-in feel that blends well with both rustic and urban interiors. For those seeking to infuse character and heritage into their living spaces, a classic 9x12 rug offers a versatile and enduring option.
Modern Minimalism: Embracing Simplicity and Subtlety in Large Rugs
As modern design trends continue to favor simplicity, functionality, and understated elegance, the demand for minimalist rugs has surged. The 9x12 rug format, given its expansive coverage, is particularly suited to minimalistic interiors where clean lines, neutral tones, and open spaces dominate the aesthetic.
Minimalist 9x12 rugs often utilize a restrained palette think beige, gray, ivory, taupe, and soft earth tones. These colors help maintain a calm, cohesive environment, especially in spaces where natural light plays a crucial role. Designs may be solid or include subtle patterns such as linear textures, tone-on-tone geometrics, or abstract gradients. The absence of elaborate ornamentation allows these rugs to blend seamlessly with contemporary furniture, making them a staple in Scandinavian, Japandi, and transitional interior styles.
Materials also play a crucial role in defining the minimalist look. Natural wool, bamboo silk, and viscose provide a soft, luxurious feel while maintaining a clean aesthetic. Flatweaves and low-pile constructions are popular choices, offering practicality alongside elegance.

New Moroccan Villa on the Santa Barbara Riviera, overlooking the Pacific ocean and the city. In this terra cotta and deep blue home, we used natural stone mosaics and glass mosaics, along with custom carved stone columns. Every room is colorful with deep, rich colors. In the master bath we used blue stone mosaics on the groin vaulted ceiling of the shower. All the lighting was designed and made in Marrakesh, as were many furniture pieces. The entry black and white columns are also imported from Morocco. We also designed the carved doors and had them made in Marrakesh. Cabinetry doors we designed were carved in Canada. The carved plaster molding were made especially for us, and all was shipped in a large container (just before covid-19 hit the shipping world!) Thank you to our wonderful craftsman and enthusiastic vendors!

THE METAL & GLASS SCULPTURE COLLECTION are three-dimensional contemporary works of art containing shapes and elements inspired by nature and fantasy. Each shape and linear element floats and flows in and out of space creating interactive movement and harmony between shape, line, material, negative space, and weight. The shape elements are cut from sheet and stainless steel then colorized with metal patinas bringing out deep, rich mottled colors including turquoise, deep green and bronze, or faux finished with acrylic paints and metal powders. The linear elements are steel & stainless steel rods, bent, finished, and welded into place. The composition is framed with 1” square steel tubing painted black.

This Spanish Revival-inspired home in La Quinta, CA lends itself to today’s upscale desert homes and lifestyles, according to architect Frank Stolz, of Southcoast Architects. “The Estancia” that he recently designed as a second home for his client, the Taylors, blends the beauty and elegance of Old European architecture with contemporary elements that create a welcoming and comfortable desert oasis for family and friends.
The 8,000 square foot home is located in the prestigious golf community of PGA West, which offers stunning views of this world class golf course and the Santa Rosa Mountains beyond. The front façade features a turnabout motor court surrounded by a water trough, which creates a relaxing, cooling effect for visitors as they arrive.
The entry foyer is a point of welcome that leads guests into a gallery complimented on one side by a verdant courtyard that helps transcend the indoor/outdoor feel of the home.
An expansive floor plan gives the great room a wide open feeling with stunning views of the golf course through the use of large pocket doors that fold back and open the home completely to the outdoors. The great room is flanked not only by the kitchen nook, but a large bar lounge that is the focal point for entertaining.
One of the most unique spaces in the home is the dining room. “Our client asked us to create a dining experience that made them feel as if they were entertaining in a wine cellar without sacrificing their stunning view. “To achieve that, we used materials reminiscent of being in a cellar, which immediately led us to the Eldorado Stone brick line. Its tumbled, weathered style combined with an overgrout technique used in the installation gives it such a realistic look that it’s hard to believe it’s not centuries old brick we shipped from Europe.”
Stolz adds, “The dramatic application of brick is used extensively in the space, covering the walls and the entire ceiling, which was designed in a barrel shape to create an even stronger wine cellar ambience.” Soffits were installed near the ceiling with a series of interesting brick patterns and then back lit to highlight the deep, rich colors found in the brick. “For an added touch we created a wine cellar below the dining room that can be seen through a glass floor. By doing so, we were able to visually bring the wine and the cellar up to the dining experience.”
“The Taylors love everything about their new home,” says Stolz. “We captured the look and feel of what they wanted by carefully blending the old with the new and using materials like Eldorado Brick to achieve our design goals.”

The entry foyer sets the tone for this Florida home. A collection of black and white artwork adds personality to this brand new home. A star pendant light casts beautiful shadows in the evening and a mercury glass lamp adds a soft glow. We added a large brass tray to corral clutter and a duo of concrete vases make the entry feel special. The hand knotted rug in an abstract blue, gray, and ivory pattern hints at the colors to be found throughout the home.
