Wanting to get as close to net- zero as possible, our clients came to us with a desire to create a home that would accommodate their growing family while walking lighter on the earth and living in a healthier home. Located in the highly sought-after Allwood neighborhood of Darien, this spec house is the fourth collaboration with a client who first began with a renovation of her own home. While architecturally it is a traditional home from the exterior, the interiors are more transitional in style. In order to compete in the speculative market, our client’s directive was clear – ‘differentiation the kitchen design from every other spec house’. So we incorporated painted cabinetry but highlighted with rift-cut white oak base cabinets. This contrast between these finishes influenced our decision to select a subtle white quartzite countertop to deliberately highlight the striking porcelain backsplash. The steel and glass partition frames the space – drawing the eye to the focal point of the kitchen, the custom stainless steel hood. Gold hardware adds a pop of flair to the space and warms the room. Walnut drawer inserts, stainless steel appliance garage, pull out trash drawers with compost bins and a stylish desk make this the Gold Standard of spec houses.

Lowell Custom Homes, Lake Geneva, WI., The living room is inviting and warm with coral walls reflecting the custom color mix of the stone fireplace. Shaped stone slabs fireplace surround reflect the craftsman style. The ceiling has a beamed cove and is painted with a high sheen white. There is a comfortable seating area and another stone niche beside the fireplace for the television.

This gourmet chef’s kitchen uses Pro Style GE Monogram appliances; Double ovens, oversized built in refrigeration, a 48” pro gas range top, and sleek and concealed microwave. A farmhouse sink, a prep sink, and pot filler create ample opportunities for cooking and cleaning up together with family and friends. The white perimeter cabinets are contrasted with a grey color at the large island and custom wood hood. The shape of the island allows for diner to face each other for great conversations over great meals. The black and brass orb pendants offer a fun contrast and a visually interesting design feature. White and grey quartz counters give the look of marble without any of the maintenance. Artisan style ceramic grey hi gloss backsplash tile adds a layer of hand made appeal and allow light to bounce off from various angles and facets.

Beauty meets practicality in this Florida Contemporary on a Boca golf course. The indoor – outdoor connection is established by running easy care wood-look porcelain tiles from the patio to all the public rooms. The clean-lined slab door has a narrow-raised perimeter trim, while a combination of rift-cut white oak and “Super White” balances earthy with bright. Appliances are paneled for continuity. Dramatic LED lighting illuminates the toe kicks and the island overhang. Instead of engineered quartz, these countertops are engineered marble: “Unique Statuario” by Compac. The same material is cleverly used for carved island panels that resemble cabinet doors. White marble chevron mosaics lend texture and depth to the backsplash. The showstopper is the divider between the secondary sink and living room. Fashioned from brushed gold square metal stock, its grid-and-rectangle motif references the home’s entry door. Wavy glass obstructs kitchen mess, yet still admits light. Brushed gold straps on the white hood tie in with the divider. Gold hardware, faucets and globe pendants add glamour. In the pantry, kitchen cabinetry is repeated, but here in all white with Caesarstone countertops. Flooring is laid diagonally. Matching panels front the wine refrigerator.
