In the dining room, we went with a modern, moody and textural look. A few of the eye-catching details in the space are the black accent wall, housing the glass and metal doors leading to the butler’s pantry, a large dining table, dripping sculptural chandelier, and a gallery wall that covers the entire back wall.

Mid-Century Remodel on Tabor Hill This sensitively sited house was designed by Robert Coolidge, a renowned architect and grandson of President Calvin Coolidge. The house features a symmetrical gable roof and beautiful floor to ceiling glass facing due south, smartly oriented for passive solar heating. Situated on a steep lot, the house is primarily a single story that steps down to a family room. This lower level opens to a New England exterior. Our goals for this project were to maintain the integrity of the original design while creating more modern spaces. Our design team worked to envision what Coolidge himself might have designed if he'd had access to modern materials and fixtures. With the aim of creating a signature space that ties together the living, dining, and kitchen areas, we designed a variation on the 1950's "floating kitchen." In this inviting assembly, the kitchen is located away from exterior walls, which allows views from the floor-to-ceiling glass to remain uninterrupted by cabinetry. We updated rooms throughout the house; installing modern features that pay homage to the fine, sleek lines of the original design. Finally, we opened the family room to a terrace featuring a fire pit. Since a hallmark of our design is the diminishment of the hard line between interior and exterior, we were especially pleased for the opportunity to update this classic work.

Designed to embrace an extensive and unique art collection including sculpture, paintings, tapestry, and cultural antiquities, this modernist home located in north Scottsdale’s Estancia is the quintessential gallery home for the spectacular collection within. The primary roof form, “the wing” as the owner enjoys referring to it, opens the home vertically to a view of adjacent Pinnacle peak and changes the aperture to horizontal for the opposing view to the golf course. Deep overhangs and fenestration recesses give the home protection from the elements and provide supporting shade and shadow for what proves to be a desert sculpture. The restrained palette allows the architecture to express itself while permitting each object in the home to make its own place. The home, while certainly modern, expresses both elegance and warmth in its material selections including canterra stone, chopped sandstone, copper, and stucco. Light and color sensitivity of the homeowner was of utmost importance to the designer. Opening up the lower-level of the home to allow for light, while also softening the light that was coming into the gallery space above, combined with the preservation of the historically significant Keck and Keck architectural elements were challenges that the designer overcame beautifully.

This is the dining room, I wanted this room to make a statement. The paneling design on the wall was already white, so I decided to paint the walls needlepoint navy. I dressed the window with a white custom drapery and bronze drapery rod. I used a live edge table with white dining chairs. The rug was my inspirational piece for this room, it just brought everything together. The one piece that the customer had to have was cotton, so I accessorized the table with a vase with cotton and brought in a blue table runner and some white dishes.

Best of Houzz 2016 Dining Room Design winner. The custom built-in banquette allowed the breakfast nook to seat 5 people comfortably and not encroach on the walking space. Custom dark wood cabinet houses breakfast dishes. Wood and marble look alike porcelain tiles set on the diagonal add interest to a large floor space.
