Our clients were inspired by the idea of a master bedroom with beautiful, functional closet space, and a larger shower – more so than there loathed 36″ x 36″ corner acrylic unit. After a number of visits, a plan was devised to build 3 closet areas, and a large shower with a floating quartz bench. The bedroom would see a dividing wall, but not to the ceiling so light could come through. The biggest of the three closets would be closest to the window, with a room entirely devoted to that space. The floor in the bathroom would feature a heated flooring system, and the vanity would have backlight lighting on the mirror. The demolition uncovered some surprises, which restricted certain locations of plumbing, so the shower was enlarged and one of the closets was scrapped. In the end, it worked out fantastic. It wasn’t necessary to overthink things when Axis Mundi designed interiors for an apartment at Brooklyn’s glass-sheathed 1 Grand Army Plaza, the luxury building by Richard Meier already endowed with all the “starchitect” bells and whistles, as well as drop-dead stunning views of Brooklyn, the harbor and Prospect Park. What did require considerable aptitude was to strike the right balance between respect for these assets, particularly the panoramas, and livability. The all-white scheme doesn’t just complement Meier’s own aesthetic devotion to this purest of pure hues; it serves as a cool backdrop for the views, affording comfortable vantage points from which to enjoy them, yet not drawing attention away from the splendors of one of the world’s most distinctive boroughs. Sleek, low-lying Italian seating avoids distracting interruptions on the horizon line. A stone and shingle facade and graceful lines highlight this expansive single-level home. Custom details can be found throughout the plan with elegant ceiling treatments in many rooms and built-in cabinetry flanking the great room fireplace. The chef's kitchen opens to the large dining area and to the great room, providing a focal point for family life and entertaining. One wing houses secondary bedrooms and utility space, helping to keep clutter out the formal living areas. The bedrooms each have a tray ceiling and their own walk-in closet. Just off the garage lies a utility room with ample work space, a large pantry, and convenient e-space. The oversized bonus room provides flexibility and access to plenty of attic storage. The opposite wing of the home plan is devoted to a roomy master suite with an attached sitting area to the rear. The suite accesses the rear porch, and includes two large walk-in closets. The highlight of the stunning master bath is the unique barrel vaulted ceiling over the garden tub. Dual vanities, a walk-in shower, and private privy complete the suite.

Retaining all the character of a 1923 whimsical while expanding to meet the needs of an active family of five. This classic and timeless transformation strikes a beautiful balance between the charm of the existing home and the opportunities to realize something custom. First, we reclaimed the attached one-car garage for a much-needed command central kitchen - organized in zones for cooking, dining, gathering, scheduling, homework and entertaining. With a devotion to design, a stunning, custom, nickel Ann Morris pot rack was chosen as a focal point, appliances were concealed with painted, raised-panel cabinetry and finishes like white quartzite countertops, white fireclay sinks and dark stained floors added just the right amount of light and color. Outside the bustle of the family space, the previous kitchen became a butler’s pantry and richly-paneled library for reading, relaxing and enjoying cigars. The addition of a mud room, family room, and a wonderful space we lovingly call “The Jewel Room” for its heightened luxurious detail, completed the perfect remodel – opening up new space for the busy children, while providing comfortable respites for their happy parents.

Creating a meditation garden Creating a personal meditation garden within your home landscape provides the perfect sanctuary to unwind and de-stress. To establish a personal and secluded place take some time to find a site in your larger landscape that feels “right” Perhaps, a tucked away corner under a large shade tree. Once selected, watch how the sun patterns fall on this site. Avoid an area that is too sunny — an eastern spot provides morning sun and will transition to cooling shade in the afternoon. If privacy is needed, consider adding a flowering hedge or fence. This will add a feeling of enclosure and privacy. A nicely placed bench surrounded by greenery has a grounding effect that is always soothing. Flowering perennials and ground covers will provide texture, color and fragrance. The elements of water, devotional statues and well placed stones adds to the cohesiveness of this personal garden. These elements blend together making it very favorable to relaxation and meditation. The lake views from this townhome’s master bathroom are panoramic and breathtaking. Unfortunately, the original layout of the bathroom itself left much to be desired. An old whirlpool tub took up too much floor space, the shower stall was too small and the room itself was cramped and dysfunctional. The homeowners’ goals called for improving the room’s traffic flow, creating a larger and more functional shower stall with dual use, taking full advantage of the lake view and bringing a Romanesque theme to the space. The first step in the renovation was to replace the old whirlpool with a small corner tub that took up half the space. The rest of that side of the room is devoted to the beautiful Roman-style shower stall with double rain shower, double body sprays and built in niches, arch headers and a heavy glass enclosure. The stalls creative use of mosaic tiles and medallion has made this shower stall the jewel of this project. The vanity uses dark cherry cabinetry which complements the cream rustic tumbled marble and oil rubbed bronze fixtures. A beautiful, curved slab of exotic marble was cut for the countertop and two hand-crafted vessel sinks made from tumbled stone are on top of it. The homeowners have never been happier to use their master bathroom .They get to have their own Roman-style bath experience by taking a few steps from their bedroom. Looking out of this gorgeous bathroom overlooking the lake just cannot be expressed with words.

Designed by Shanae Mobley of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Springfield, VA this transitional inspired kitchen remodeling project features kitchen cabinets from Greenfield Cabinetry in the Haverhill inset door style in 2 finishes. The wall cabinets and tall cabinets feature a Glacier White finish and the base cabinets feature a Graphite Grey finish. The kitchen island countertop features waterfall sides in stainless steel. The perimeter countertop supplied is engineered quartz in the color London Gray by Caesarstone. The peninsula countertop for the seating area features a granite countertop in White Macabus.
