In collaboration with the client’s architect, AR Design the layout of the kitchen was already in place. However, upon meeting the client it was clear she wanted a ‘wow’ island, symmetry in design and plenty of functional storage. As well as a contemporary, family-friendly space it was also important the space that still respected the heritage of the house. The original walls of the property had many angled walls and featured some tight spaces, so careful consideration of SieMatic's cabinetry choices was given to ensure maximum functionality in those spaces. After much consideration, The Myers Touch specified SieMatic’s SC10 Cabinetry in a Provence Oak Laminate finish which was placed in a framed-style at the rear wall. The same cabinetry was specified for under the island to create contrast with the new and original material features in the space. In order for the family to keep the kitchen uncluttered, careful planning of internal storage systems was considered in the form of using SieMatic’s internal Drawer boxes and their MultiMatic internal storage system which were used to store smaller items such as spices and sauces, as well whilst providing space for slide-out drawers and storage baskets. To ensure an elegant yet ‘wow’ factor central island, The Myers Touch combined contrasting textures by using 30mm Silestone Eternal Calacatta natural stone, polished worktops with ‘waterfall island’ edges and a Corian solid surface back panel. The distinctive geometric patterned Corian panel in Cameo White looks particularly spectacular at night when the owner's turn on the architectural-toned lighting under the island. Appliances chosen for the island included a sophisticated Elica Illusion extractor hood so it could be totally integrated in the new architectural space without visual distraction, a Siemens iQ500 Induction Hob with touch-slide control and a Caple Under-counter Wine cabinet. To maximise every inch of the new space, and to ensure the owners had a place for everything, The Myers Touch also used additional cabinetry and storage options in the island such as extra deep drawers to store saucepans, cutlery, and everyday crockery. The eye-catching Antique-bronze mirrored splashback not only helps to provide the illusion of extra space, but reinforces family ‘togetherness’ as it reflects and links the rear of the kitchen ‘snug’ area where family members can sit and relax or work when not in the main kitchen extension area. The original toned brickwork and 18th Century steel windows in the original part of the extension also helps to tell the story about the older part of the house which now juxtaposes to the new, contemporary kitchen living extension. A handy door was also included in the extension which leads to the garage on the main road for family convenience and over-flow storage. We went with euro-style cabinets and gola channels to give the kitchen that ultra-clean, modern look. With no hardware to distract from the surfaces, the cabinetry allows the countertops and custom hood to take center stage.

For this project the house itself and the garage are the only original features on the property. In the front yard we created massive curb appeal by adding a new brick driveway, framed by lighted brick columns, with an offset parking space. A brick retaining wall and walkway lead visitors to the front door, while a low brick wall and crisp white pergola enhance a previous underutilized patio. Landscaping, sod, and lighting frame the house without distracting from its character. In the back yard the driveway leads to an updated garage which received a new brick floor and air conditioning. The back of the house changed drastically with the seamless addition of a covered patio framed on one side by a trellis with inset stained glass opposite a brick fireplace. The live-edge cypress mantel provides the perfect place for decor. The travertine patio steps down to a rectangular pool, which features a swim jet and linear glass waterline tile. The kitchen was a top priority for our clients. The wife spends lots of time here because she cooks to de-stress, so she wanted a proper chef’s kitchen. All appliances, including the 2 dishwashers and double oven, are high-end Wolf Appliances. In fact, we were excited to submit this design to Wolf’s Kitchen Design Contest! Designed with the wife’s preference for the color blue and glitzy style in mind, we chose a waterfall quartz countertop with navy veining that matches the sleek painted cabinets and built-in storage. The gold range hood, pot filler, and faucet all coordinate for the ultimate glam look. Brooke, the lead designer, added 4 funky asymmetrical pendants placed on the outer edges of the island, so they don’t distract from the lake views. To hide the irregular footprint of the step-down breakfast nook, we added two beautiful black metal and glass display cases that also provide an opportunity to style some decor in the island.

This contemporary kitchen was in need of a lighter and brighter counter top and backsplash. The black granite on both was absorbing all the light and distracting from the beauty of the newly refaced bamboo cabinets. A pallet of light grey and charcoal grey Silestone quartz counter tops were installed with a suede finish. The glass mosaic backsplash adds interest, texture and color. Now the kitchen and adjoining hutch and hall cabinets reflect the style of the rest of the home.

I bought two very simple contemporary lighted display cabinets so as not to distract from my clients colorful and decorative collection of Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian porcelains and artifacts. Items were arranged according to likeness of design and color, which helps collections look more organized and focal.

Canvas Prints - Canvas printing provides a near-original representation of the original artwork. The lack of gloss sheen in canvas print allows the viewers to solely focus on the picture details without being distracted. Three edge treatments are available as well: plain white, all black, and wrapped-artwork. Framing and installation is available at some additional charge. For canvas wrapped prints a floating frame is generally our first recommendation.

Our challenge for this home office renovation was to add tons of character without creating anything that might be too distracting during video meetings. In order to achieve this, we decided to use the room’s tall ceilings to their full potential. A contemporary open weave light fixture along with a graphic line drawing motif wallpaper become the focal point, both framed by a walnut floating shelf for plants. The wallpaper’s midcentury modern-inspired color story is complemented by other elements in the room, including the custom color-blocked drapery. By concentrating the visual interest in the upper and lower portions of the room, we were able to deliver a unique design that packed a punch “off camera” while still creating a light and airy atmosphere that’s perfect for those frequent work from home meetings.

Transitional design is all about balance. The perimeter cabinets with their white refresh make the space feel larger. The island pops with a high-gloss navy blue, and the charcoal refrigerator wall has been transformed into functional artwork. Long gold hardware ties all three looks together. Transitional design favors modern lighting; the clean lines and unique design contribute more to a space than ornate crystal chandeliers. The freshly refinished white hood doesn’t distract, but rather highlights the geometrical light fixtures. A full-slab marble backsplash and quartzite countertops add elegance without taking from the overall design. Kitchens are all about life and food, so I always add flowers, greenery, and fresh fruit as my pops of design color.

This beautiful heritage renovated home hosts 2 spectacular islands. This kitchen hosts a 'center stage' gas range which has a quiet high efficiency range fan to avoid noise-distraction. The islands provide large food preparation areas which easily accommodates day to day family life, multiple cooks, and large groups. These islands have an abundance of storage behind invisible touch-latch doors. One island hosts two dish washers and a clever raised counter to hide any kitchen mess from people walking in the front door. This kitchen also incorporates a double wall oven in white, a bar fridge, and a tucked away pantry.

A Bold Yet Simple Cherry Kitchen Remodel by Matt at Uncharted Design This cherry kitchen remodel by Matt at Uncharted Design blends bold style with simple elegance. The original space was closed off by load-bearing walls, limiting light and flow. By removing those barriers, Matt opened the room dramatically, allowing natural light to flood in and connect the kitchen to the rest of the home. If you ever found yourself shopping for a new home, finding a model home, falling in love with this model home and immediately signing on the dotted line. Yet after a few months of moving into your new home you realize that the kitchen and the layout of main level will not work out for your lifestyle. The model home you fell in love with was furnished with beautiful furniture distracting you from concentrating on what is really important to you. This is what happened to this couple in Ashburn, VA, after purchasing their dream home. The kitchen lacked natural light, while its location was not ideal and was disrupting their daily routine. After a careful review of the kitchen design, a plan was formed to upgrade the kitchen. Their kitchen was moved to a location between the two-story family room and front dining room. To the left of the family room there was a breakfast eating area that was not serving any purpose. Our design incorporated the breakfast area placed along a couple feet from an adjacent pantry space to create this new dream kitchen. By knocking down a few bearing walls, we have placed the main sink area under large backside windows. Now the kitchen can look into their beautiful backyard. A major load bearing wall between the old breakfast room and adjacent two-story family was taken down and a big steel beam took the place of that, creating a large seamless connection between the new kitchen and the rest of the home. A large island was implemented with a prep sink, microwave, and with lots of seating space around it. Large scale professional appliances along with stunning mosaic backsplash tiles complement this amazing kitchen design. Double barn style door in front of the pantry area sets off this storage space tucked away from rest of the kitchen. All the old tile was removed and a matching wide plank distressed wood floor was installed to create a seamless connection to rest of the home. A matching butler pantry cabinet area just outside of dining room and a wine station/drink serving area between family room and main foyer were added to better utilize the multi-function needs of the family. The custom inset cabinetry with double layers and exotic stone counter top, distressed ceiling beams, and other amenities are just a few standouts of this project.

This exquisite Wine Cellar is the result of our clients desires to create the finest tasting room for guests to gather and enjoy wine and food. This is the ideal place for entertaining. Lutron Lighting Control System The mood is easily set throughout this elegant space with the Lutron lighting control system installed by our team. The Lutron Lighting Control System is a great way for our clients to have the capability to adjust the lighting and shade levels within a single room or throughout an entire home with the touch of a button. Sonance Speaker System The right sound resonating in the background plays a significant role in setting the atmosphere while entertaining or relaxing. With in-ceiling Sonance Speakers, our client and their guests will be surrounded by audio. Custom Programming Complimentary with the architectural design of curved walls, we installed two curved Samsung TVs. Through custom programming we were able to provide our client the ability to use both TVs simultaneously. With the ingenuity of our team we created an eye captivating custom designed 4K background scenery of wineries that scroll through the TVs providing an additional WOW factor to this already exquisite room. Motorized Shades Motorized shades were installed for the floor to ceiling windows. With easy to use controls, our client can enjoy amazing views or minimize harsh glare on the TVs. The shades are hidden inside custom soffits so they don’t distract from the beautiful view of the landscape or the exquisite design of the room. Savant Control System The Savant Control system was installed to provide our clients the ability and ease of controlling everything in one central location with one touch technology.
