Inspiration for an eclectic home design remodel in Los Angeles

This futon was hiding underneath all of this extra stuff. After going through all the items, we were able to dedicate much of it to donations, and even put some of it up for sale online. The futon is now in a proper position for someone to relax and saves space in the small office.

My client is preparing his home to be listed on the market for sale. He was overwhelmed with piles (waist high) in all the bedrooms, and just didn't know what to do with everything. Because the pandemic was going on he didn't know where to donate his items, because those locations were closed. I came in and in (4) days, working 6 hours each day, we went room by room to remove any extra items that they didn't need to live with for the next 3-6 months. Long term storage items went into the garage. I donated (3) truck loads. I took (2) truck loads of trash. Client remarked what took me 24 hours would have taken him (4) YEARS to complete. Money well spent! I love helping my clients, how can I help you in your home?

Custom millwork is expensive! My rules for which books to keep: 1. Any book you LOVED and will want to either read again or want someone you love to read. 2. Designed and built in Butler County, this home sits picturesquely on 2 acres right next door to the home that the homeowner grew up in. Now owned by the owner's brother, the land is part of the 100+ acre farm that was once owned by the owner's grandparents. And the story just continues to get sweeter as the owner's nephew lives in the over 100-year-old farmhouse! Of the 100 original acres, 83 of the acres and the original farmhouse have been donated to the Three Valley Conservation Trust and will eventually be turned over to MetroParks of Butler County for a conservation easement and nature preserve.

Burns and Parks Painting teamed up with IDS to donate painting services to the 2014 Dwell with Dignity Project. Dwell with Dignity is a non-profit group of Interior Designers and volunteers dedicated to creating soothing, inspiring homes for families struggling with homelessness and poverty. They provide and install home interiors for families that include furnishings and art, bedding and kitchen supplies, and food in the pantry. A simple flat roof post and beam structure with a clerestory and higher roof over the Living Room. A pair of "J" shaped concrete block walls enclose the primary interior space, and with the addition of a wood louvered screen, give total privacy to this small, basically one bedroom house. Interior spaces open entirely to a covered, and screened, outdoor terrace and swimming pool where interior/exterior lines are blurred. The total structure occupies almost all of the available buildable area within the building setback lines, and turns inward, away from the neighborhood, thereby seemingly donating the setback area to the neighbors, maintenance included.

The after is a cleaned out, organized and tidy garage. The clients got their dream garage, and it was completed in only three hours. Lots of items were donated, tossed and moved their storage shed. The white cabinet was purchased at Ikea and was built onsite.

We were selected to create the gardens at the Washington Design House benefiting Children’s Hospital in Washington DC. Donating our time, and construction costs, we transformed a rundown and overgrown garden into a truly magical series of outdoor spaces. Since it was a “design house”, we decided to have some fun with our work, introducing a series of pea gravel “splashes” in the pond garden, enlivening the pool garden with brightly colored cushions and umbrellas, and giving the “dance floor” garden structure and interest by using Emerald Green Arborvitae columns and a mass planting of Rhododendron Roseum Elegance.

Lots of the items were donated, which made the process easy. These homeowners just needed to be guided through the organization process. This project was completed in one day.
