• A busy family wanted to rejuvenate their entire first floor. As their family was growing, their spaces were getting more cramped and finding comfortable, usable space was no easy task. The goal of their remodel was to create a warm and inviting kitchen and family room, great room-like space that worked with the rest of the home’s floor plan. The focal point of the new kitchen is a large center island around which the family can gather to prepare meals. The custom-designed vent hood wood beams in the ceiling added a touch of warmth while the cool color palette opened up the space and balanced the design. Storage was a necessity for our clients so we included ample cabinetry in the kitchen, an island with functional storage space on three sides, and an oversized butler’s pantry with rolling ladder for easy use.

Studio Apartment. This newly remodeled family home and in law unit in San Anselmo is 4000sf of light and space. The first designer was let go for presenting grey one too many times. My task was to skillfully blend all the color my clients wanted from their mix of Latin, Hispanic and Italian heritage and get it to read successfully. Wow, no easy feat. Clients alway teach us so much. I learned that much more color could work than I ever thought possible.

Building this traditional-contemporary blend custom wine cellar in a residential home in San Juan Capistrano, California, was not an easy task. We encountered many obstacles. However, we were able to overcome them. This lovely wine room measures 13.5’ x 9.5’ x 7’. The wine racks were constructed from Alder, which is a beautiful wood species. We combined different racking styles. The total capacity of the wine cellar is 1,598 bottles. We transitioned an old style (read: dated) metal post and baluster railing into a more modern cable railing system topped with a solid oak handrail. It was no easy task as each solid metal baluster had to be cut off, ground down to the level of the rail, and then smoothed out to look seamless with all else. Then hundreds of holes had to be drilled through solid metal posts and about a thousand feet of cable railing had to be secured. To top it off, since this was an old system, there was no off-the-rack system that would work. We had to get creative to make it work. And we did! The end result is that it opened the space up and gave it the modern industrial look they were seeking.
