The owner of an outdated kitchen and den was ready to have the space transformed. What was once 2 very dark rooms, became one open, bright and beautiful space. The kitchen table was replaced with an over-sized island to seat 6, we replaced the cluttered open cabinets with functional storage and intentional display, and lastly a nook tucked beside the ovens to keep all the family's daily mail, keys and electronics out of sight but always in arms reach. Eliminating several wing walls and changing the placement of the appliances completely opened up this kitchen. In the new layout, there is plenty of landing space on the two sides of the range. The wall cabinets obstructing the view from the family room and the soffits were eliminated. The peninsula was extended and the seating is now at the kitchen counter instead of a small breakfast table. The hall closets were replaced by tall pantry cabinets and a small mail center was incorporated here, with a built-in charging station in the drawer for personal electronics. The small office area between the kitchen and dining/family room gave room to a new beverage and coffee center.

No matter it be your first trip out for the day, or your last time through the door in the evening, you'll love the calm feeling of knowing that there is a place for everything you need to get moving. Tall cabinets store everything from backpacks to gym bags, while the drop zone features cubbies for mail, keys and personal electronics. A furniture-inspired boot bench has places for everyday shoes and equipment - your choice to stow them in drawers or on the open shelf. This tired ranch was in dire need of an update. Formerly the kitchen was separate from the living room and the dining area was severely undersized. SLR Architecture opened up the kitchen to the great room and defined the living and dining areas so that each space stands on it's own. With help from interior designer Justine Sterling the finishes, furniture, ad accessories were carefully considered so that the whole room works as an overall composition. A compact mud room was carved out of the back hall from a formally over sized laundry room so the family had a convenient drop zone, also the front entry was upgraded and a new rear deck was added for easier exterior access. These South Shore homeowners desired a fresh look for their kitchen that was efficient and functional with a design worthy of showing off to family and friends. They also wished for more natural light, increased floor area and better countertop work space allowing for ease of preparation and cooking. The Renovisions team began the remodel by installing a larger (5’) window over the sink area which overlooks the beautiful backyard. Additional countertop workspace was achieved by utilizing the corner and installing a GE induction cooktop and stainless steel hood. This solution was spot on spectacular! Renovisions discussed the importance of adding lighting fixtures and the homeowners agreed. Under cabinet lighting was installed under wall cabinets with switch as well as two pendants over the peninsula and one pendant over the sink. It also made good design sense to add additional recessed ceiling fixtures with LED lights and trims that blend well with the ceiling. The project came together beautifully and boasts gorgeous shaker styled cherry cabinetry with glass mullian doors. The separate desk area serves as a much needed office/organizational area for keys, mail and electronic charging. A lovely backsplash of Tuscan-clay-look porcelain tile in 4”x8” brick pattern and diagonal tile with decorative metal-look accent tiles serves an eye-catching design detail. We created interest without being overdone. A large rectangular under-mounted ‘chef’ sink in stainless steel finish was the way to go here to accommodate larger pots and pans and platters. The creamy color marble like durable yet beautiful quartz countertops created a soft tone for the kitchens overall aesthetic look. Simple, pretty details give the cherry cabinets understated elegance and the mix of textures makes the room feel welcoming. Our client can’t wait to start preparing her favorite recipes for her family.

This remodel of a mid-century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed wooden beams and deep overhangs. The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture.
