Huge traditional white two-story exterior home idea in New Orleans with a hip roof

This spectacular free form pool was built into the side of a sand dune in New Smyrna Beach. Our client was a retired high-end homebuilder from the Hamptons, referred by Collado Real Estate. All Aqua Pools completed all aspects of this backyard paradise. Not only the pool design and build, but also the pool deck, walls, landscape design and landscaping, irrigation, fencing, and LED lighting of the pool and landscape.
The retaining wall at one end of the pool includes two staircases to provide a jumping off point as well as a four foot high location for the three 24″ sheer waterfalls. This pool also features a large sun shelf for luxuriating and a bench around the perimeter of much of the pool. The walls are made of Baystone Travertine Cladding, and the interior is lined with Wet Edge North Shore Tahoe, and of course like all of our pools it features a Paramount PCC-2000 self-cleaning floor system which circulates the water from the bottom, resulting in sparkling water with very little maintenance.

Challenge
This 2001 riverfront home was purchased by the owners in 2015 and immediately renovated. Progressive Design Build was hired at that time to remodel the interior, with tentative plans to remodel their outdoor living space as a second phase design/build remodel. True to their word, after completing the interior remodel, this young family turned to Progressive Design Build in 2017 to address known zoning regulations and restrictions in their backyard and build an outdoor living space that was fit for entertaining and everyday use.
The homeowners wanted a pool and spa, outdoor living room, kitchen, fireplace and covered patio. They also wanted to stay true to their home’s Old Florida style architecture while also adding a Jamaican influence to the ceiling detail, which held sentimental value to the homeowners who honeymooned in Jamaica.
Solution
To tackle the known zoning regulations and restrictions in the backyard, the homeowners researched and applied for a variance. With the variance in hand, Progressive Design Build sat down with the homeowners to review several design options. These options included:
Option 1) Modifications to the original pool design, changing it to be longer and narrower and comply with an existing drainage easement
Option 2) Two different layouts of the outdoor living area
Option 3) Two different height elevations and options for the fire pit area
Option 4) A proposed breezeway connecting the new area with the existing home
After reviewing the options, the homeowners chose the design that placed the pool on the backside of the house and the outdoor living area on the west side of the home (Option 1).
It was important to build a patio structure that could sustain a hurricane (a Southwest Florida necessity), and provide substantial sun protection. The new covered area was supported by structural columns and designed as an open-air porch (with no screens) to allow for an unimpeded view of the Caloosahatchee River. The open porch design also made the area feel larger, and the roof extension was built with substantial strength to survive severe weather conditions.
The pool and spa were connected to the adjoining patio area, designed to flow seamlessly into the next. The pool deck was designed intentionally in a 3-color blend of concrete brick with freeform edge detail to mimic the natural river setting. Bringing the outdoors inside, the pool and fire pit were slightly elevated to create a small separation of space.
Result
All of the desirable amenities of a screened porch were built into an open porch, including electrical outlets, a ceiling fan/light kit, TV, audio speakers, and a fireplace. The outdoor living area was finished off with additional storage for cushions, ample lighting, an outdoor dining area, a smoker, a grill, a double-side burner, an under cabinet refrigerator, a major ventilation system, and water supply plumbing that delivers hot and cold water to the sinks.
Because the porch is under a roof, we had the option to use classy woods that would give the structure a natural look and feel. We chose a dark cypress ceiling with a gloss finish, replicating the same detail that the homeowners experienced in Jamaica. This created a deep visceral and emotional reaction from the homeowners to their new backyard.
The family now spends more time outdoors enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of nature. Their professional lives allow them to take a trip to paradise right in their backyard—stealing moments that reflect on the past, but are also enjoyed in the present.

This pool, completed in 2005, measures 20'0" x 43'0". The elevated hot tub is 8'0" in diameter. There is a shallow end bench attached to the "wedding cake" steps. The pool finish is Diamond Brite exposed aggregate pool finish. The pool is covered by an automatic pool safety cover with custom stone lid system. The pool coping is Indiana Limestone on both the pool and hot tub. Other features include colored lights and deep flume slide.

The 21” high exposed portion of the pool wall is clad with Wiarton ledgerock veneer and capped with flame finish Silver Valley limestone coping. Because the structurally reinforced pool wall is thicker than normal, the coping surrounding the entire pool is a robust 18” wide.

Late afternoon photo of the backyard and pool area. Off to the right is a large pergola with built-in sink and grill area with a refrigerator, a linear firepit, a large T-shaped pool with a reef entry, and the pool decking is travertine which is cool on the feet. This is an infinity edge pool with a twist...the waterfall created by the infinity edge faces the house and falls into a large pool at the bottom, so the waterfall can be viewed from the lower level windows and the main floor as well. The exterior of the house is Hardi-shingle siding painted gray with white trim, and the roof is concrete tile. Photo by Paul Bonnichsen.

Spectacular doesn't seem enough to describe this Diamond Award-winning infinity pool. Blasted out of a hill of granite in Muskoka, this rugged oasis begins with two waterfalls spilling into separate rivers of granite that tumble over successive waterfalls, one emptying into an elevated spa complex and finally both into a catch basin behind the main pool. In the rivers, jets of water have been strategically placed to simulate rapids. The main pool has multiple entry points, one featuring a tanning shelf. (main pool: 35 x 50, custom free form)

Canyon Oak Pools designed and built this custom pool and spa in Prosper, Texas, with exceptional attention to the masonry and glass tile details throughout the project. The geometric gunite pool features an integrated spa with intricate mosaic glass tile work, coordinating waterline tile, a spacious tanning ledge, wide entry steps, and beautifully finished stone coping. The precision of the tile installation is especially striking around the spa, where multiple elevations, edges, and transitions come together for a clean, custom finish. Thoughtful landscaping frames the long, streamlined pool and creates privacy without overwhelming the space, while multiple deck areas provide room for lounging and entertaining. This Prosper project showcases the craftsmanship and finish details that can elevate a clean geometric pool design into a truly custom backyard.

Fiberglass Swimming pool, Designer, installer, company, Lawrence NY 11559.
The installation of this Thursday Goliath 16x37 fiberglass swimming pool was executed with an excavator, after digging the hole, a 3/8 bluestone gravel base was used for the under layer for the pool shell to sit on. The pool was then lifted and dropped in place; numerous adjustments were made before we started filling the fiberglass pool with water and backfilling around the pool shell. Sonar tubes were placed around the all perimeter of the pool to be used as future supports for the concrete slab of the patio base. On this fiberglass swimming pool a safety auto cover was also installed, the Goliath 16x37 is 3.8” to 6’8”deep with which makes this fiberglass pool a non-diving pool but it makes it a fun pool to swim, play sports activities and sit on the extensive benches and step that are molded in the pool shell by the manufacture. This fiberglass swimming pool was installed by Gappsi in Lawrence NY 11559, located on the south shore of Nassau County long Island. Due to the high water table in this area the pool was elevated, and many yards of fill were brought in to raise the property Grade. Fiberglass swimming pools are very challenging to install, starting with the delivery and due to the size of this pool 16x37 it was very expensive to cross the bridges and trucking it on the highway. 2 police car escort were also needed beside the delivery truck. The patio pavers used are the melfi limestone Vincenza pattern along with 2 inches thick random coping for the pool edge. These stones are exclusive Gappsi patio stone.
