A farmhouse coastal styled home located in the charming neighborhood of Pflugerville. We merged our client's love of the beach with rustic elements which represent their Texas lifestyle. The result is a laid-back interior adorned with distressed woods, light sea blues, and beach-themed decor. We kept the furnishings tailored and contemporary with some heavier case goods- showcasing a touch of traditional. Our design even includes a separate hangout space for the teenagers and a cozy media for everyone to enjoy! The overall design is chic yet welcoming, perfect for this energetic young family. When Chris Kehoe arrived on site to learn more about the home layout, budget, and timeline for the homeowners, it became clear that there was far more to the story. Our clients are from Indiana but have been coming to Northern Michigan for about 50 years. They originally learned about our firm through an article in Traverse the Magazine where our owner, Stephanie Baldwin, provided information about working with a design firm. They then toured a couple of our projects during a parade of homes and decided they were ready to hire for their family's cottage needs. They already owned a cottage on Walloon Lake, but were ready to design and build a new cottage in its place for more room for their family. They wanted low maintenance materials and a timeless, Northern Michigan lake cottage style. The ultimate design was completed to take advantage of the lake views and access as well as creating plenty of room for family to stay while considering aging in place. The end result is a stunning home that will be enjoyed by the entire family for generations to come.

The main door leads to the entry hall. To the right is the living room and stairway. Directly ahead of the entry is the library. We reupholstered a vintage settee the clients had, replacing the torn rattan, and using a performance teal velvet for the cushion.

Stephanie is obsessed with plants, and her background in wedding stationery, botanical illustration, and fine art infuse with her love of the wild world in her approach to garden design. A lifelong guest on Ohlone Land, Stephanie has grown up with a deep appreciation for California landscapes and ecosystems, and she enjoys deepening her knowledge of local watersheds, native plant communities, and the beings who depend on them. Stephanie has a BFA in Graphic Design from California College of the Arts, and is currently completing an AA in Landscape Architecture at Merritt Community College. She also holds additional training in ecological restoration, fire resilience, permaculture, herbalism, and spiritual ecology, and is very passionate about environmental and social justice. In her free time she loves working with her hands - stewarding her North Oakland garden, knitting, and learning to weave. She also volunteers with the East Bay California Native Plant Society, helping to conserve California’s native ecosystems.
