What began as a renovation project morphed into a new house, driven by the natural beauty of the site. The new structures are perfectly aligned with the coastline, and take full advantage of the views of ocean, islands, and shoals. The location is within walking distance of town and its amenities, yet miles away in the privacy it affords. The house is nestled on a nicely wooded lot, giving the residence screening from the street, with an open meadow leading to the ocean on the rear of the lot. The design concept was driven by the serenity of the site, enhanced by textures of trees, plantings, sand and shoreline. The newly constructed house sits quietly in a location advantageously positioned to take full advantage of natural light and solar orientations. The visual calm is enhanced by the natural material: stone, wood, and metal throughout the home. The main structures are comprised of traditional New England forms, with modern connectors serving to unify the structures. Each building is equally suited for single floor living, if that future needs is ever necessary. Unique too is an underground connection between main house and an outbuilding. With their flowing connections, no room is isolated or ignored; instead each reflects a different level of privacy and social interaction. Just as there are layers to the exterior in beach, field, forest and oceans, the inside has a layered approach. Textures in wood, stone, and neutral colors combine with the warmth of linens, wools, and metals. Personality and character of the interiors and its furnishings are tailored to the client’s lifestyle. Rooms are arranged and organized in an intersection of public and private spaces. The quiet palette within reflects the nature outside, enhanced with artwork and accessories.

For this primary bedroom redesign, the client envisioned a retreat that would provide a sense of escape and tranquility. The room was designed with a moody atmosphere, blending deep, rich colors that envelop the space in a cocoon of comfort. Color drenching was used on the walls, creating a seamless flow of hues that added depth and warmth. A stunning mural wallpaper became a focal point, its intricate design bringing an artistic, yet serene element to the room. To elevate the ambiance, a statement light fixture was carefully selected, adding a touch of luxury and drawing attention upward. Every element was thoughtfully curated to transform the space into a peaceful sanctuary, offering both beauty and relaxation in equal measure.

A boys' bedroom is outfitted with a striped wallpaper to create a tented effect. A custom built-in daybed with storage acts as a lounge/reading/sleeping area.

A mix of Midcentury Modern architecture with classic, comfortable beachy interiors equals a relaxing, family friendly vacation home on the coast of Bandon, Oregon. With the expansive views of the ocean and Facerock, this luxury cabin is the perfect escape.

A view of the master bathroom that showcases the mister's side of the bathroom. The spacious onyx countertops have portions on both sides that reflect the colors of the sky coming through the expansive window, making them radiate. Both his and her sides are outfitted with ample storage space in the custom cabinets below. Brushed nickel hardware and fixtures unify the brushed nickel accents in the custom shower tile design and the embroidery on the towels. LED strips mounted directly on the mirrors as well as recessed ceiling lights and a barely seen (in this photo) central chandelier provide ample and equal light throughout this bathroom. A pop of bright red flowers in the corner draws the eye around the room to the view beyond, which, given the view, is certainly something else in the room to delight in!

We redesigned the entire home, layout, and chose the furniture. The palette is neutral with black accents and an interplay of textures and patterns. Over the course of 20 years, the owners of Imparfait and KitchenLab, Rebekah and Nick, have renovated twice, updated, saved and remodeled the barn, connected the barn to the house via a breezeway and screened in porch and put on an addition onto their beloved Michigan farmhouse. You could say they had vision, because the place was a complete mess when they bought it, complete aluminum siding, shag carpet, faux wood paneling, and sheet vinyl flooring - it was definitely a fixer-upper. At first they were weekend warriors, going back and forth between Chicago and Michigan for many years, even after their daughter, Hannah, was born in 2012 they still split their time between Wicker Park and Michigan, but when Covid hit they de-camped permanently and never looked back. Surrounded by grape vines on 4 sides and 10 miles from Lake Michigan, this little slice of heaven has been their sanctuary and home to 20 years of memories, family gatherings, holidays and friends visiting from near and far. Every tree, bush and flower you see they put in the ground…besides the mature Maples in back, the Red Bud in front and the ones they build the screened in porch around (dubious decision). The first renovation included opening up the kitchen to the dining room, adding French doors to the back yard, new siding, roof, windows, refinishing the floors and remodeling the bathrooms - both of which were on the 1st floor. The most recent remodel included an 8ft, 2 story addition giving them a master suite on the 2nd floor and a mirror image one below for their parents, turning one 1st floor bathroom into a walk-in pantry (life saving), converting the other 1st floor bath to a powder room with laundry (equally life-saving), and adding 2 full baths upstairs and a full bath downstairs. Their design studio is 15 minutes away in Lakeside Michigan which was completed just before the house remodel.
