The lower entrance is now paved with a granite curb and 'oil & chip' gravel driveway.

3' tall x 4-5' wide A slow growing oakleaf hydrangea that grows wider than tall. The large white flowers turn a light pink in the summer. In autumn the large, corrugated textured leaves turn a deep maroon red. Exfoliating bark is exposed during the winter months.

Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) is native to the southeastern US. Course textured leaves turn burgundy in late summer to autumn. This Lookout Mtn. home had a beautiful Country French style about it but not enough structural evergreen to frame the foundations. I added evergreen shrubs, Espaliered fruit trees on blank walls, and the rambling rose “Peggy Martin” to add old world cottage charm…Drift Roses, “Encore” reblooming Azaleas and many Hydrangea varieties added high impact bloom and color! We added large perimeter borders along the property lines and back yard fencing to minimize the boxed in feel… Utilizing River Birch for their amazing color and exfoliating bark adding year-round interest. We also planted Cryptomeria and Vitex Trees to visually block out the nearby power station.

This AFTER PHOTO Months later this is how the plantings "grew in" to finish the look we all wanted. The propane fire pit here has a cover over. Everyone was particularly happy with the effect the river rock creek to the left created, as the rock "flowed down" the hill and gently dispersed throughout the Bitter-Root slate. It is all firmly embedded in the the slate, and even into the bank-side stone bench. Much like it would have naturally been had it existed in the area. Much of the large stone was found here, but surprisingly little of the smaller stone we brought in.

This Crape Myrtle will quickly fill the space. It will bring white blooms in summer, colorful leaves in fall, and a gorgeous exfoliating cinnamon colored bark in winter!

Moderate growing; reaches 4 to 5 ft. tall, 5 to 6 ft. wide. Partial Sun. Large, dense 6 to 8 inch long clusters of white flowers are held upright above the dark green oak leaf-shaped foliage. Flowers become rose-pink in fall and leaves turn deep red-bronze. Tan-brown exfoliating bark is attractive in winter. Deciduous.
