This beautiful outdoor space was designed to replace a shady, largely unused space in our client's backyard. We transformed a small, exposed aggregate patio into an expansive covered outdoor room complete with a gas fireplace and an elaborate outdoor kitchen and bar seating area. The additional open patio space takes advantage of views out to a waterfall and greenery beyond.

We added a new kitchen and covered terrace wing, and a bar and office wing onto an existing 1920's home. There's also a new mud rm and renovated family room. The rear terrace will have a vaulted roof that compliments the 2nd floor master bath addition on top of the existing garage.
The arched window on the right is above the masterbath tub shown in a later photo. The existing one story garage had a hip roof which we removed then floor joists and roof trusses were added to make the 2nd floor master bath space. The dormers enclose the master bath closets.

This Des Peres outdoor living area features a stamped concrete patio with a covered area and a stone front gas fireplace. The ceiling is whitewashed cedar and has two fans and recessed lighting. The siding in that area was removed from the house and replaced with Hardie cement siding. A retaining wall and putting green was also added.

This spacious, covered patio is the perfect retreat for enjoying the outdoors with all the comforts of an indoor setting. The neutral color palette of the sandstone paver patio, and natural wood tones of the tongue & groove ceilings and privacy screen are in keeping with the modern aesthetic our homeowners desired. Whether you are dining alfresco in the outdoor dining room or gathering around the beautiful modern limestone fireplace with mounted TV to watch your favorite team, this versatile space is a harmonious blend of natural beauty, functionality, and modern design.

Sunset Construction and Design specializes in creating residential patio retreats, outdoor kitchens with fireplaces and luxurious outdoor living rooms. Our design-build service can turn an ordinary back yard into a natural extension of your home giving you a whole new dimension for entertaining or simply unwinding at the end of the day.
Today, almost any activity you enjoy inside your home you can bring to the outside. Depending on your budget, your outdoor room can be simple, with a stamped concrete patio, a grill and a table for dining, or more elaborate with a fully functional outdoor kitchen complete with concrete countertops for preparing and serving food, a sink and a refrigerator. You can take the concept even further by adding such amenities as a concrete pizza oven, a fireplace or fire-pit, a concrete bar-top for serving cocktails, an architectural concrete fountain, landscape lighting and concrete statuary.
Cooking
Something to cook with, such as a barbecue grill or wood-fired pizza oven, and countertops for food preparation and serving are key elements in a well-designed outdoor kitchen. Concrete countertops offer the advantages of weather resistance and versatility, since they can be formed into any shape you desire to suit the space. A coat of sealer will simplify cleanup by protecting your countertop from stains. Other amenities, such as concrete bar-tops and outdoor sinks with plumbing, can expand your entertainment options.
Hearth
Wood-burning or gas fireplaces, fire pits, chimineas and portable patio heaters extend the enjoyment of outdoor living well into the evening while creating a cozy conversation area for people to gather around.
If you’re interested in converting a boring back yard or starting from scratch in a new home, look us up! A great patio and outdoor living area can easily be yours. Greg, Sunset Construction & Design in Fresno, CA.

Patio kitchen - huge transitional backyard patio kitchen idea in Miami with a roof extension

My clients home is a wonderful combination of styles. On the exterior, the architectural style is Georgian/Georgian Colonial, covered in used bricks. Their interiors however, are more contemporary and transitional. The combination of these styles was the design program I was given for this entryway.
I configured the size, shape and frequency of the hand-beveled glass background pieces so they matched those of the used bricks on the exterior. I offered this idea to bring the exterior into the interior, and vice versa. There are many textures of clear glass used for the circular elements, as well as highlights created form hand-beveled glass as well. Since this entry faced south, I selected beveled glass with the intended effect (seen above) to flood the foyer with prismatic color cast through the beveled glass. In this way, the windows bring a full range of color to the interiors, but with no colored or stained glass actually being used.
