Modern Kitchen Designed and Built with Custom Cabinetry in this new construction home in Oklahoma.
While preparing to build his new ICF home on the edge of a lake, our client hired us to design and build every room inside the home, including this Modern Kitchen. Beginning with our custom frameless cabinetry with slab doors, we used a finish that provides a soft and luxurious feel in matte black and grey. Interior storage features were added to provide full function, even with tall or deep cabinets. The island was finished with the stone veneer panels in the front, with an electric trash slide out on the user side. To provide even more functionality, the Galley Ideal Workstation was placed in the island, opposite the Thermador Freedom Induction cooktop in against the wall. (If you are not familiar with the benefits Induction offers, watch our video tutorial here: Induction.) Other design elements include our custom, hand=made bronze venthood, and the painstaking placement of the multiple leg pendant lighting over the island. We created a truly functional kitchen for the modern chef!

From bare studs to bright and stunning, This customer tore their former kitchen down to its foundation to build this kitchen inspiration. With a soft blend of whites, grays, and Hickory wood throughout the space, the natural light from the windows makes this kitchen glow with warmth. This kitchen is an example of when simplistic elegance is enough. Featuring a custom beverage bar, a charming small desk, a walk-in pantry, as well as an intentional bottom-heavy design with few wall cabinets, this kitchen marries aesthetics and functionality, the familiarity of a farmhouse, and the efficiency of a commercial kitchen.

The purchasers of this Roland Park home had a long standing relationship with PBA, having successfully completing several projects on two previous homes with the firm. Therefore, the level of trust and familiarity allowed for a very aggressive design and construction schedule. The project included the creation of a new mud room within the footprint of an existing covered porch, the renovation of 4 bathrooms within the house, the re-tasking of various rooms throughout the house, introduction of new lighting and building systems, the renovation of a laundry, the creation of a “bunk room” on the third floor, restoration and repair of various exterior elements, significant landscaping, and creation of a spectacular “man cave” in a previously dreary basement.

This beloved seaside home received a thoughtful, multi-phase expansion designed around one simple goal: more room for family. The project included a new attached 2-car garage with a finished suite above — featuring a kitchenette and in-unit laundry — plus a structural addition to the right side of the home that opened up the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Exterior decks were updated with modern materials, the landscaping was reimagined from the ground up, and the entire interior was remodeled and refreshed. The result is a home that feels both brand new and deeply familiar.

Example of a mid-sized transitional master carpeted bedroom design in New York with gray walls and no fireplace

With its seamless layering of visually intriguing elements, the Reveal collection encourages the eye to linger just a bit longer and the hand to reach out and touch. Fresh yet familiar, these inspired designs are innately beautiful and grounded in a palette of raw materials curated with expert sophistication. Smooth wood planes finished in soft, dry finishes merge with exquisite woven textures for true dimensional appeal. Shapely silhouettes and relaxed modern forms are crafted from Ash solids and veneers while the expressive character of raffia elevates drawer faces and creates surface interest with tactile appeal. This whole-hearted embrace of natural elements weaves effortless elegance with modern organic design character.

A collaborative project with an Annapolis architect firm, the design team came to us with two main priorities for this project: first, preserve their majestic waterfront views and second, create comfortable rooms to entertain their family and guests.
Soft, ethereal draperies anchor the picturesque bay window in the master bedroom. Motorized traversing panels in the second floor bedrooms stack off the windows to expose the scenic waterfront, and when closed, darken the rooms for peaceful sleeping. A stage coach valance in a casual stripe pattern, complete with nautical rope ties, provides a fun finish to the well appointed grandchild’s room. Familiar family heirloom furniture pieces were updated and upholstered with welcoming fabrics. Seat cushions and pillows for the rotunda’s custom bench create a cozy place to sit, relax and read a book.

MONTECITO, CA / SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL
The Casa de Casey takes its place among the graceful and genteel tradition of Santa Barbara architecture. Located in a secreted area of Montecito, the house is tucked amidst a wooded glen along a riparian creek bed. Carefully sited at the top of a rolling green, the building provides a strong form in the natural landscape.
With its reference to historical precedent, the house is both undeniably familiar and tangibly rich. Site sensitivity and pure spatial relationships combine in new ways, showing that what’s old can be new again.
An entry courtyard concealed behind a pair of wooden doors of Moorish design begins the entry sequence. The courtyard, wrapped around an existing mature oak tree, creates an outdoor room, which establishes an interplay between interior and exterior spaces, a theme that recurs throughout the house.
An exercise in scale and proportion, the 5,000-square-foot residence is imbued with classic detail and richness found in the Spanish Colonial architecture characteristic of George Washington Smith and others. Interior spaces are created through pure and varied geometric volumes, and are elaborated by opened beamed ceilings, groin vaults and Moorish arches.

Hospitality and familiarity are brought together in a sophisticated design, Scavolini’s Favilla kitchen.
This new model stylishly manages to accommodate various domestic requirements:
indeed, for their kitchen, customers can pick details brimming with industrial appeal, or recall the ambiance of country homes, preferring a more international style in the clean-cut silhouettes, or warming up the setting with traditional features.
The Favilla kitchen thus offers an unprecedented linearity which will never go out of fashion, to create a place that is simply elegant and functional.

A Modern home that wished for more warmth...
An addition and reconstruction of approx. 750sq. area.
That included new kitchen, office, family room and back patio cover area.
The custom-made kitchen cabinets are semi-inset / semi-frameless combination.
The door style was custom build with a minor bevel at the edge of each door.
White oak was used for the frame, drawers and most of the cabinet doors with some doors paint white for accent effect.
The island "legs" or water fall sides if you wish and the hood enclosure are Tambour wood paneling.
These are 3/4" half round wood profile connected together for a continues pattern.
These Tambour panels, the wicker pendant lights and the green live walls inject a bit of an Asian fusion into the design mix.
The floors are polished concrete in a dark brown finish to inject additional warmth vs. the standard concrete gray most of us familiar with.
A huge 16' multi sliding door by La Cantina was installed, this door is aluminum clad (wood finish on the interior of the door).

A lovely motif
The decorative pattern of the floor-tile provides rhythm and naturality.
That is a new era in the development of Gres Porcelain as own-element.
The outline of a design that always modifies according to the laying side Whoever takes a look feel the power of something alive. The very first floor-tile styled by Petracer’s . An usual decorative theme. On fabrics, objects and structural home-ware such as banisters and window-sills, as well as building materials, iron, timber, fired-earth and aimed to decorative purposes like badges, frames or backgrounds, something very close and familiar for many cultures. Conceived as core of decoration, this outline had previously never been achieved on a floor. The development of this idea headed to creation of an innovative theme that let combine, while laying it down, a customized pattern free from pre-arranged schemes. In other words, all the tiles can be fixed to each other in any side without distinction and still providing the best coherence of the decorative pattern. Every laying-scheme gets therefore unique through the flexibility of its arrangements just like something alive. An important style concept that brings honour back to ceramic as ancient decorative element and Gres Porcelain that does not imitate any raw material but simply express itself through the harmony of style and shades.

The kitchen carries the theme with bright shaker cabinetry, a white subway backsplash, and bold black countertops. A retro-inspired black-and-white checkerboard floor adds personality, while modern globe pendant lighting ties the space together. The result is a space that feels both familiar and updated with a balance of Traditional charm and Modern simplicity.

Modern Sophistication in River North | Interior Transformation
Refining a home in River North requires a balance of high-end aesthetics and logistical precision. This recent mid-rise project highlights our team’s ability to transform modern urban spaces into polished, gallery-quality homes. Whether it’s a sleek condo or a spacious loft, we specialize in the crisp lines and durable finishes that downtown Chicago living demands.
Project Overview & Premium Materials
For this River North residence, we selected Benjamin Moore Advance for its furniture-like finish and incredible durability. In a high-traffic urban environment, the paint needs to do more than just look good—it needs to withstand daily life. We paired this with high-performance primers specifically chosen for the smooth drywall and metal trim often found in newer Chicago developments.
Our Meticulous Process
Logistics & Protection: We coordinate directly with building management to handle COIs and freight elevator schedules. Once inside, we utilize heavy-duty floor protection and dust-containment systems.
Preparation: Modern lighting is unforgiving. We perform extensive drywall patching and sanding to ensure walls are perfectly plumb and smooth.
Application: Using a combination of professional airless spraying for a factory-smooth finish on doors and precision brush-and-roller work for walls.
Detail & Delivery: A final walkthrough ensures every transition—from baseboard to ceiling—is flawless before a comprehensive cleanup.
The Urban Challenge: Mid-Rise Logistics
Painting in River North isn't just about the walls; it’s about the environment. Working within mid-rise buildings requires strict adherence to work hours, noise ordinances, and specialized venting for low-VOC materials. Our team is seasoned in navigating these requirements so the homeowner doesn't have to.
Results That Elevate
The final result is a bright, cohesive space that maximizes the natural light from the building's large windows. By updating dated finishes with a sophisticated, modern palette, we’ve added significant aesthetic and resale value to this downtown property.

Pro Tip for Houzz Users:
When updating a modern condo, consider a "Matte" or "Ulti-Matte" finish for your walls. It hides minor drywall imperfections and looks stunning under the recessed LED lighting common in River North units.

This classic architecturally significant Newton home built in the 1920’s had an outdoor porch over the garage that was nice but rarely enjoyed due to wind, snow, cold, heat, bugs and the road noise was too loud. Located in the Langley Fork Historic District in McLean, Virginia, this residence was designed to speak to the formal massing seen in the existing neighborhood fabric of stately traditional homes. The simplicity and clean lines of the stucco and limestone façade blends harmoniously with its surroundings. Traditional forms, interjected with modern twists, create a tension that carries throughout the design, creating a home that feels warm and familiar while clean and distilled at the same time. The Elliott Bay House is located on an urban site facing Puget Sound in Washington State. The architectural massing of the house has been wrapped around a south-facing, courtyard dominated by a large reflecting pool with two “floating” basalt boulders. The main living space has sweeping westerly views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The east side of the living space is the courtyard with reflecting pool, providing a sense of intimacy and quiet in contrast to the dramatic views on the west side.
Similar to other FINNE projects, a strong sense of “crafted modernism” is present in the house. A water jet-cut steel fence and gate leads to the house entry. Stainless steel stands elevate the basalt boulders in the pool so they hover slightly above the water’s surface. Roof drainage from the living space drops onto the basalt boulder in a 10-ft. waterfall. Exterior siding is custom stained red cedar with two different patterns and colors. The striking steel and wood stairs have water jet-cut steel railings with a pattern based on hand-drawn ink brush strokes. The beech interior cabinets have a custom topographic milled pattern called “imaginary landscape.” Freeform steel lighting bars in the ceiling tie together the kitchen and dining spaces.
The house is highly energy efficient and sustainable. All roof drainage is directed to the reflecting pool for collection. The house is insulated 30% higher than code. Radiant heating is used throughout; generous glass areas provide natural lighting and ventilation; large overhangs are used for sun and snow protection; interior wood is FSC certified. The house has been pre-wired for photovoltaic roof panels, and an electric vehicle charging station has been installed in the garage.

Completed in 2011 this 4 BR, 3 1/2 bath custom home is situated on a very tight urban infill lot in Northern, Virginia. Our clients were relocating to the D.C. area from New England and wanted to retain some of the New England vernacular they were familiar with in their new home. Due to heavy zoning restrictions, stylistic CCR's and a large program of almost 7000 sf, our design response is a modern take on a traditional hipped 4-square.
We intentionally kept the skin and form of the building simple in order to contain cost and allow for a higher level of interior finish. The main level employs our favorite Great Room scheme that merges cooking, eating and entertaining into one seamless space that flows onto an expansive deck overlooking the rear yard. The entry elevation welcomes guests with a traditional front porch and stone path that passes by a small rain garden. The basement accommodates a guest room, media room, exercise area, and full shop while the upper level orients 2 kid's bedrooms, a Jack-n-Jill bath and the master suite toward a territorial view of the rear yard. All of this program is housed beneath a hipped roof that minimizes the scale of the house while presenting a thoughtful appearance toward the street and neighbors.
