When our client requested a cozy retreat for her study, we re-configured a narrow 6’ x 12’ space off the Master Bedroom hall. By combining 2 separate rooms, a dated wet bar and a stackable washer/dryer area, we captured the square footage needed for the Study. As someone who likes to spread out and have multiple projects going on at the same time, we designed the L-shaped work surface and created the functionality she longed for. A tall storage cabinet just wide enough to house her files and printer, anchors one end while an oversized ‘found’ vintage bracket adorns the other, giving openness to an otherwise tight space. Previously separated by a wall, the 2 windows now bring cheerful natural light into the singular space. Thick floating shelves above the work surface feature LED strip lighting which is especially enticing at night. A sliding metal chalkboard opposite of the worksurface is easily accessible and provides a fun way to keep track of daily activities. The black and cream “star” patterned floor tile adds a bit of whimsy to the Study and compliments the rustic charm of the family’s antique cowhide chair. What is not to love about the compact yet inviting space?

The beautiful window became the groundwork for the design.
Glazed ivory melamine with raised panel faces enhanced the wood flooring and trim without overpowering the room. High pressure laminate coordinating work surfaces were used for both durability and eye appeal. Large lateral filing drawers and a vertical file along with ample drawers for miscellaneous items created the spaces needed to keep paperwork from cluttering up the desk. With the addition of tack boards above the coordinating counters, notes can be accessed easily. The under counter LED lighting in a glazed light box allows the proper lighting. All upper cabinets are enhanced with an extra-large glazed crown molding.

The tall pantry provides plenty of food storage with easy access snack drawers below for the kids. The corner desk area keeps the computer in sight, while the magnetic whiteboard keeps notes and schedules (tucked next to Pantry) out of sight.

Shown in the open position, the outer sections of the architectural photograph slide apart to reveal shelving concealed within the custom storage wall. When closed, the three sections form one continuous panoramic image; when open, the artwork frames frequently used books, files and office supplies. This flexible design allows the wall to shift between a clean visual focal point and accessible working storage.

This was a clothing storage/closet makeover that we did in two parts totaling 14 hours. Client had two large closets and a wall of custom cabinetry. Her clothing was not easily accessible due to a large volume of items. We removed everything from her closet and storage and checked each item if it was a keeper, discard/resale, or "maybe. " We file folded pants, tops, and sweaters and re-hung her clothing.
