This Carmel Valley complete remodel truly defines an open-concept living space that is elegant, functional, and full of beautiful finishes. Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, is home to Jade Signature, a gorgeous high-rise residential building developed by Fortune International Group and designed by Swiss architects, Herzog & de Meuron. Breathtakingly beautiful, Jade Signature shimmers in the Florida sun and offers residents unparalleled views of sparkling oceanfront and exquisitely landscaped grounds. Amenities abound for residents of the 53-story building, including a spa, fitness, and guest suite level; worldwide concierge services; private beach; and a private pedestrian walkway to Collins Avenue. TASK Our international client has asked us to design a 3k sq ft turnkey residence at Jade Signature. The unit on the 50th floor affords spectacular views and a stunning 800 sq ft balcony that increases the total living space. SCOPE Britto Charette is responsible for all aspects of designing the 3-bedroom, 5-bathroom residence that is expected to be completed by the end of September 2017. Our design features custom built-ins, headboards, bedroom sets, and furnishings. HIGHLIGHTS We are especially fond of the sculptural Zaha Hadid sofa by B&b Italia.

We contracted with Chester County Kitchen and Bath (CCKAB) to completely renovate our master bathroom first, followed by a complete kitchen renovation and the building of a family room addition off the kitchen. John Noland, the VP at CCKAB for such project development, was simply fantastic. He spent many hours with us, discussing our ideas of what we wanted the house to look like, and then he produced outstanding overall technical designs for each project before we ever signed the contract. John used his design software to develop dramatic and really useful drawings and graphic depictions of each aspect of the different projects; these drawings enabled us to refine the different projects over several weeks. John's initial cost estimates were spot-on, as was his proposed project timeline. When we added major changes to the original designs, John worked with us and the general (sub)contractor to incorporate the changes to the overall project without bursting the budget or blowing the timeline. John's able deputy, Stacy Nass, was simply amazing as the Project Manager. She juggled the scheduling of subcontractors, suppliers, cabinetry, appliance installation, etc. with aplomb and professionalism, and it was principally due to her careful attention to detail that the projects ran so smoothly and finished on time. The technical expertise of John, Stacy, and the rest of the staff at CCKAB are matched by their warm interpersonal skills. Having heard all the horror stories from friends about contractors they've used for home projects, we consider ourselves fortunate to have hired the folks from Chester County Kitchen and Bath. In the end, we were so very impressed with the final results - John and Stacy and their many collaborators really did help us create our dream home.

A young family of four recently purchased a home with an unfinished basement. Each member of the family had their own opinion of how to use the space: dad wanted a music room, mom loves to dance and have parties, and the children wanted a media/game room where they could hang out with their friends. Fortunately, the basement was big enough to meet all their needs. The renovation includes a secluded sound proof music room that doubles as an office, a home gym with full-length mirrors and a multi-purpose area for dancing and entertaining. A full bar area with sink, dishwasher, microwave, wine cooler and under-the-counter refrigerator features granite countertops and custom cabinetry. Complete with high-back bar stools, it is a great gathering space during the parties the family loves to host. The focal point of the basement is a gas fireplace with ledger stone surround. Mood lighting, sconces, pendants, recessed lights and a disco ball provide plenty of lighting options. Last, but not least, is a high-tech media room with 110” large screen television. Let the games begin!

The kitchen needed to be lightened and brightened. Out with the dark mid-toned brown wood cabinets and in with freshly painted white cabinets. I transformed the counter area by having an all neutral backsplash for a clean and revived base. I added modern pendant lighting over the island and light wooden Hickory stools decorated with orange accents which gave it a fresh updated look. The owner is a lover of nature and animals, so I wanted to create a casual dining area with a modern twist especially since the space looks out onto the beautifully landscaped backyard. It was a natural choice for the owner to select art featuring two large aviaries filled with a colorful palette of birds, as she has a parrot of her own. Placing an elliptical Julian Chichester table and bright orange Design Within Reach chairs with a whimsical chandelier and vibrant patterned drapes gave the dining area a cheerfully updated look without spending a fortune.

Three years after completing the first phase of our Clients’ home renovation we were summoned again to redesign their Kitchen. The charge was to create a sleek, “Metro” Kitchen and a dynamic flow between it and the adjacent Sitting Room. The Client, who works from home for a Fortune 500 Corporation, also requested a desk area at which to do her job. Transforming the “Eighties, “White-washed- Southwest-Country” styled Kitchen required a complete stripping to the studs, reconfiguring the position of appliances and cabinetry, eliminating a wall and peninsula that separated the Kitchen from the Sitting Room, and a complete make-over of the brick-oven- like fireplace. The process yielded a stunning and efficient working Kitchen which features a coffee station, wine bar, full height pantries, a seamless flow to the Sitting Room and, to our Clients’ delight, a little office space tucked behind a pocketing French door.

This single family residential project in River Forest juxtaposes a contemporary home style and modern metal roof with traditional exterior materials – in this case, some beautiful “Medium Pink” reclaimed Chicago Common brick. The homeowner was drawn to using reclaimed brick for its unique texture and color pallet. Fortunately, the architects at Moment Design and Steve from Mondo Builders knew the perfect place to source it! The homeowners, builder, and architect all visited our Chicago yard to view samples, and appreciated the opportunity to see, feel, and compare colors of the available stock in person. The 3/8″-size mortar joints were chosen based entirely on seeing the mockup panels in real life – initial drawings originally planned for a larger joint, but the aesthetics just worked better with the smaller size. Two different batches of reclaimed brick were ultimately used, but the difference is imperceptible thanks to careful brick selection and matching in the field.

Our homeowner approached us first in order to remodel her master suite. Her shower was leaking and she wanted to turn 2 separate closets into one enviable walk in closet. Kitchen: The two biggest requests are homeowner had for their kitchen remodel was banquette seating and to reconfigure it so that she didn’t do so much walking while cooking. This transitional kitchen features white painted cabinets and a granite countertop. There are 4 pieces of historic porcelain tile from South America featured. The flooring is Narbina in a French pattern. In addition to the designer pendent light by Jamie Young: Flowering Lotus Antique Gold, there are also LED recessed lights. For the appliances our client decided on a Thermador 36” Gas Range, Kitchen Aid Refrigerator and Thermador Dishwasher. The kitchen has open shelving above the countertop and in the pantry.

Upgrading this Kitchen meant opening up walls - fortunately the client was an engineer. When finished we created a large open space with the Kitchen, TV viewing area, Dining Room, as well as a counter seating area for the children to do homework, and a private seating area.

This fall, Amethyst had the opportunity to partner with Freeman Custom Homes of Kansas City to furnish this 5000 sq ft European Modern designed home for the Artisan Home Tour 2020! Every square inch of this home was magical -- from the secret staircase in the master bath leading to a private shuttered plunge pool to the vaulted kitchen with sky high mushroom colored cabinetry and handmade zellige tile. We met the builders during the cabinetry phase and watching their final, thoughtful design details evolve was such full of over-the-top surprises like the unique valet-like storage in the entry and limestone fireplace! As soon as we saw their vision for the home, we knew our furnishings would be a great match as our design style celebrates handmade rugs, artisan handmade custom seating, old-meets-new art, and let's be honest -- we love to go big! They trusted us to do our thing on the entire main level and we enjoyed every minute. The load in took 3 full trucks and fortunately for us -- the homeowners fell in love with several pieces so our uninstall trip was significantly lighter. I think we were all a little emotional leaving this masterpiece but sooooo happy for the owners and just hoping we get invited to a Christmas party... Here are some of the highlights -- 90% of the furnishings and rugs were from our shop and we filled in the gaps with some extra special pieces!

“The kitchen sets the foundation for the rest of the house,” Kehayes says. Fortunately, the designer nailed it on the first draft. “Lynn didn’t change a thing about that kitchen, she said ‘It’s so me!’ From that moment on, she kind of just trusted me.” One notable design element is showcased in separate refrigerator and freezer areas. Black panels with arched tops that mirror the shape of the front door, conceal the two appliances. Kehayes says, “I picked up that shape from a door that was in the background of an inspirational photo Lynn shared at our first meeting.”

We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on this clean NW Contemporary home. Due to its remote location, our goal was to pre-fabricate as much as possible and shorten the installation time on site. We were able to cut and pre-fit all the glue-laminated timber frame structural elements, the Douglas Fir tongue and groove ceilings, and even the open riser Maple stair. The pictures mostly speak for themselves; but it is worth noting, we were very pleased with the final result. Despite its simple modern aesthetic with exposed concrete walls and miles of glass on the view side, the wood ceilings and the warm lighting give a cozy, comfy feel to the spaces. The owners were very involved with the design and build, including swinging hammers with us, so it was a real labor of love. Showing personality in the kitchen! This kitchen is so rich in style and personality. These cabinets are semi custom, inset construction with a soft textured glaze applied. This is an older home that had the good fortune of finding an owner to bring it back to life. Few homes are fortunate enough to boast a tea room, and this bright and airy space helped set the tone for the exterior. Its black steel windows inspired the new steel windows and doors by Riviera Bronze that were commissioned for the rest of the home. The tea room windows are the only original windows that were kept, serving as a lovely bridge between old and new.
