Originally Built in 1903, this century old farmhouse located in Powdersville, SC fortunately retained most of its original materials and details when the client purchased the home. Original features such as the Bead Board Walls and Ceilings, Horizontal Panel Doors and Brick Fireplaces were meticulously restored to the former glory allowing the owner’s goal to be achieved of having the original areas coordinate seamlessly into the new construction.

This enclosed kitchen is a stylish, contemporary space that proves that a beautiful, kitchen design can be achieved in a smaller space without spending a fortune. The dark wood shaker style kitchen cabinets from Medallion Cabinetry with Top Knobs hardware set the tone for this room, giving it a sophisticated edge. The cabinets are offset by a light-colored laminate countertop that is paired with a Karran stainless undermount sink specifically designed for laminate tops. The modern faucet from Delta adds a stylish and practical accent to the design, and the Virginia Tile backsplash with a mosaic border brings the color scheme together.

An amazing transformation to a bedroom does not have to cost a fortune. As the author of Rock Your Rental, I share ideas how make your vacation rental or boutique hospitality location stand out.

A young family of four recently purchased a home with an unfinished basement. Each member of the family had their own opinion of how to use the space: dad wanted a music room, mom loves to dance and have parties, and the children wanted a media/game room where they could hang out with their friends. Fortunately, the basement was big enough to meet all their needs. The renovation includes a secluded sound proof music room that doubles as an office, a home gym with full-length mirrors and a multi-purpose area for dancing and entertaining. A full bar area with sink, dishwasher, microwave, wine cooler and under-the-counter refrigerator features granite countertops and custom cabinetry. Complete with high-back bar stools, it is a great gathering space during the parties the family loves to host. The focal point of the basement is a gas fireplace with ledger stone surround. Mood lighting, sconces, pendants, recessed lights and a disco ball provide plenty of lighting options. Last, but not least, is a high-tech media room with 110” large screen television. Let the games begin!

Although this couple was fortunate to have “his and her” master bathrooms, they both needed attention. Now they each have a retreat! “Hers” features a new floating wall to the bright new Master Closet/Vanity area. An island & large custom closet provide plenty of storage. “Hers” also features a soaker tub, seamless glass shower, and a “fireplace”. His” features an expanded shower, more efficient storage, rich colors and bright white wainscoting for an elegant feel.

As master of the perfect mix, LaMont Bynum can magically transform a raw space or breathe new life into what already exists. His education in interior design combined with his penchant for problem solving and passion for transforming lives led to him following his calling to become a designer. He grew up in a family whose love for interior design led to friendly family design competitions. The “creative types” who raised him served as his primary source of inspiration. A graduate of Howard University, Lamont worked in hospitality sales and marketing before opening Rite At Home, Atlanta‘s premier consignment furniture boutique, in 2012. He serves on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together Atlanta, an organization working to ensure that low-income homeowners — particularly older adults, military veterans, people with disabilities and families with children — are able to live in warmth, safety and independence. Also, he chairs the Board of Directors for the Adamsville Business and Community Partnership. Lamont is always looking for ways to impact communities through engagement and design. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies to develop their work and fun spaces for employees and even designed their CEO’s personal living spaces. LaMont believes no project is too small or too big, everyone deserves an environment conducive to dream, relax and make life happen. With timeless, sophisticated taste, LaMont’s design style is classy, inviting, and also incredibly detail oriented. His ability to transform both residential homes and commercial projects by layering rich textures, colors, and fabrics has placed him on Atlanta’s Top 25 Designer List four times.

This project consisted of The Grand Staircase in Allen Field House at the University of Kansas and 2 staircases in the adjoining DeBruce center. We went way out of our comfort zone on this project! We created and installed concrete stair treads that were colored and polished with exposed aggregate. The Grand Staircase consisted of nearly 500 square feet of precast concrete. The landing pieces ranged in size from 2 feet by 9 feet to 5.5 feet by 9 feet. After the precast pieces were finished, they were transported from Lenexa to Lawrence, then carefully placed via forklift. The 1 foot by 9 foot stair treads were placed by hand, all 20 of them. In the DeBruce Center, which houses Dr. Naismith’s Original Rules Of Basketball, we completed 2 stairwells that covered 3 stories each. These pieces were much smaller than the Field House stairs, measuring only 2″ thick by 5 foot wide. While these were easier to handle, we created 120 pieces for this half of the project, totaling nearly 500 square feet. While this took us out of our comfort zone, it was an incredible project and we were fortunate to place our artwork there. We were able to overcome the challenges, such as transport and installation of pieces that were much larger than we are accustomed to. We are honored to have our work be in such a historical building for many years to come!

Our client has been very fortunate to have acquired some amazing memorabilia over the years. This was our inspiration to create a space to display them and at the same time design a room where both he and his wife can enjoy family photos and work on shared interests. The custom builds were planned to create organization for personal office items and give an inviting atmosphere to come in, sit, read and reflect. Although many design elements are masculine we added a feminine touch with the blush colored chair fabric and custom pillows. A shared desk space is great for collaborating and planning. The fabric covered walls add sophistication and texture. The sofa was placed to invite and enjoy the rest of the family to come in and take part. Custom designed by Hartley and Hill Design. In a suburb less than 3 miles from Manhattan an old house underwent a major facelift. I had a good fortune of being invited to participate on the garden design and installation. In the front a simple corten steel frame lifts an arrangement of Carex Pensilvanica, that will mature into a lawn that will not need mowing. Playful clusters of Boxwoods add structure and winter interest.

This Carmel Valley complete remodel truly defines an open-concept living space that is elegant, functional, and full of beautiful finishes. Taking center stage in the kitchen is a gorgeous, large island that features cabinetry in a very on-trend jewel toned blue hue that perfectly accents the primary palette of white and grey throughout the rest of the space. Other beautiful details include the custom hood, walk-in pantry, and the unique marbled mosaic subway tiled backsplash. Subtle brass fixtures and accents accentuate the modern feel while top of the line appliances add the finishing touch for this home chef. Fortunately, one of the best benefits of living in southern California are the mild temperatures that make it possible to enjoy outdoor living spaces nearly year-round. The addition of a large sliding door in the family room expanded this client’s access to a lovely outdoor patio and eating area, complete with recessed heating for cooler months, while a beautiful custom fireplace/entertainment center created the perfect spot for the whole family to enjoy.

Built into the island are a microwave drawer (right) and a warming drawer. The warming drawer was a late addition — fortunately we were able to swap it into the spot that would have been the bottom drawer in a 3 drawer stack.
