Our clients had just recently closed on their new house in Stapleton and were excited to transform it into their perfect forever home. They wanted to remodel the entire first floor to create a more open floor plan and develop a smoother flow through the house that better fit the needs of their family. The original layout consisted of several small rooms that just weren’t very functional, so we decided to remove the walls that were breaking up the space and restructure the first floor to create a wonderfully open feel. After removing the existing walls, we rearranged their spaces to give them an office at the front of the house, a large living room, and a large dining room that connects seamlessly with the kitchen. We also wanted to center the foyer in the home and allow more light to travel through the first floor, so we replaced their existing doors with beautiful custom sliding doors to the back yard and a gorgeous walnut door with side lights to greet guests at the front of their home. Living Room Our clients wanted a living room that could accommodate an inviting sectional, a baby grand piano, and plenty of space for family game nights. So, we transformed what had been a small office and sitting room into a large open living room with custom wood columns. We wanted to avoid making the home feel too vast and monumental, so we designed custom beams and columns to define spaces and to make the house feel like a home. Aesthetically we wanted their home to be soft and inviting, so we utilized a neutral color palette with occasional accents of muted blues and greens. Dining Room Our clients were also looking for a large dining room that was open to the rest of the home and perfect for big family gatherings. So, we removed what had been a small family room and eat-in dining area to create a spacious dining room with a fireplace and bar. We added custom cabinetry to the bar area with open shelving for displaying and designed a custom surround for their fireplace that ties in with the wood work we designed for their living room. We brought in the tones and materiality from the kitchen to unite the spaces and added a mixed metal light fixture to bring the space together Kitchen We wanted the kitchen to be a real show stopper and carry through the calm muted tones we were utilizing throughout their home. We reoriented the kitchen to allow for a big beautiful custom island and to give us the opportunity for a focal wall with cooktop and range hood. Their custom island was perfectly complimented with a dramatic quartz counter top and oversized pendants making it the real center of their home. Since they enter the kitchen first when coming from their detached garage, we included a small mud-room area right by the back door to catch everyone’s coats and shoes as they come in. We also created a new walk-in pantry with plenty of open storage and a fun chalkboard door for writing notes, recipes, and grocery lists. Office We transformed the original dining room into a handsome office at the front of the house. We designed custom walnut built-ins to house all of their books, and added glass french doors to give them a bit of privacy without making the space too closed off. We painted the room a deep muted blue to create a glimpse of rich color through the french doors Powder Room The powder room is a wonderful play on textures. We used a neutral palette with contrasting tones to create dramatic moments in this little space with accents of brushed gold. Master Bathroom The existing master bathroom had an awkward layout and outdated finishes, so we redesigned the space to create a clean layout with a dream worthy shower. We continued to use neutral tones that tie in with the rest of the home, but had fun playing with tile textures and patterns to create an eye-catching vanity. The wood-look tile planks along the floor provide a soft backdrop for their new free-standing bathtub and contrast beautifully with the deep ash finish on the cabinetry.

Karri, the Founder and CEO of both Smart Playrooms and Project Playroom designed this absolutely stunning Bespoke playroom in South Beach Miami. Karri worked with her SP team in New York but travelled frequently to the location to ensure her design came to life beautifully. She is so proud of the end result. Nestled in a penthouse overlooking the majestic Miami Beach ocean, lies a marvelously designed Smart Playroom focused on pretend and active play and with safety in mind. Commissioned by a family longing to create an enchanting space for their grandkids, a third of the living area was transformed into an engaging play space. A stunning two-story Playhouse steals the spotlight, adorned with custom fluted wood siding and monkey bars to a foam pit. A slide spirals down from the upper level, while an exclusive Project Playroom mural morphs seamlessly into a rock climbing wall. Carefully considering the panoramic vistas, we included a spider man net that allows the homeowners to still see the incredible views from the living room. The netting also provides a way to get down from the monkey bars if they can’t make it all the way across to the foam pit. The floor mat was custom designed by Karri. She wanted to create a water ripple effect in the clients favorite colors: pink, red, blue and green. This Bespoke Smart Playroom stands as a testament to creativity and craftsmanship, a sanctuary where joy and imagination intertwine against the backdrop of breathtaking views. We are so incredibly proud of this impressive and gorgeous educational Playroom.

Clients love to entertain! And why wouldn't they, when they have a space like this? When I arrived, this huge space was nothing but bare soil. What a transformation! Project goals primarily focused on the creation of a beautiful space to enjoy with multiple outdoor rooms, space to grow food and space to play outside with guests. We created a regulation-size bocce ball court, large fountain and pond, and used an incredible and diverse selection of drought-tolerant plants including California native selections as well as plants from South Africa, Australia and beyond. Textures and colors form a buzzing, living tapestry which is framed by magnificent views of the fields and distant mountains. All garden elements are connected by winding decomposed granite pathways so the frequent guests, children and grandchildren can roam freely. Raised veggie beds provide a bountiful harvest of veggies and tomatoes. The sound of flowing water and the tranquil garden make it impossible to go inside; this is outdoor living at its finest!

A classic traditional island getaway, designed for empty nesters and all their childrens' families with 13 grandchildren! Long summer vacations for the teenagers mean summer jobs and play, with all generations pitching in to share mealtime chores. The kitchen is contiguous with the dining and living spaces inside and out, and thus is perfect for the frequent entertaining enjoyed by this couple with their friends and extended family. These homeowners came to us wanting to upgrade the curb appeal of their home and improve the layout of the interior. They hoped for an entry that would welcome guests to their home both inside and out, while also creating more defined and purposeful space within the home. The main goals of the project were to add a covered wrap around porch, add more windows for natural light, create a formal entry that housed the client’s baby grand piano, and add a home office for the clients to work from home. With a dated exterior and facade that lacked dimension, there was little charm to be had. The front door was hidden from visitors and a lack of windows made the exterior unoriginal. We approached the exterior design pulling inspiration from the farmhouse style, southern porches, and craftsman style homes. Eventually we landed on a design that added numerous windows to the front façade, reminiscent of a farmhouse, and turned a Dutch hipped roof into an extended gable roof, creating a large front porch and adding curb appeal interest. By relocating the entry door to the front of the house and adding a gable accent over this new door, it created a focal point for guests and passersby. In addition to those design elements, we incorporated some exterior shutters rated for our northwest climate that echoed the southern style homes our client loved. A greige paint color (Benjamin Moore Cape May Cobblestone) accented with a white trim (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee) and a black front door, shutters, and window box (Sherwin Williams Black Magic) all work together to create a charming and welcoming façade. On the interior we removed a half wall and coat closet that separated the original cramped entryway from the front room. The front room was a multipurpose space that didn’t have a designated use for the family, it became a catch-all space that was easily cluttered. Through the design process we came up with a plan to split the spaces into 2 rooms, a large open semi-formal entryway and a home office. The semi-formal entryway was intentionally designed to house the homeowner’s baby grand piano – a real showstopper. The flow created by this entryway is welcoming and ushers you into a beautifully curated home. A new office now sits right off the entryway with beautiful French doors, built-in cabinetry, and an abundance of natural light – everything that one dreams of for their home office. The home office looks out to the front porch and front yard as well as the pastural side yard where the children frequently play. The office is an ideal location for a moment of inspiration, reflection, and focus. A warm white paint (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee) combined with the newly installed light oak luxury vinyl plank flooring runs throughout the home, creating continuity and a neutral canvas. Traditional and schoolhouse style statement light fixtures coordinate with the black door hardware for an added level of contrast. There is one more improvement that made a big difference to this family. In the family room, we added a built-in window seat. This created a cozy nook that is used by all for reading and extra seating. This relatively small improvement had a big impact on how the family uses and enjoys the space.

The existing kitchen was in a word, "stuck" between the family room, mudroom and the rest of the house. The client has renovated most of the home but did not know what to do with the kitchen. The space was visually cut off from the family room, had underwhelming storage capabilities, and could not accommodate family gatherings at the table. Access to the recently redesigned backyard was down a step and through the mud room. We began by relocating the access to the yard into the kitchen with a French door. The remaining space was converted into a walk-in pantry accessible from the kitchen. Next, we opened a window to the family room, so the children were visible from the kitchen side. The old peninsula plan was replaced with a beautiful blue painted island with seating for 4. The outdated appliances received a major upgrade with Sub Zero Wolf cooking and food preservation products. The visual beauty of the vaulted ceiling is enhanced by long pendants and oversized crown molding. A hard-working wood tile floor grounds the blue and white colorway. The colors are repeated in a lovely blue and white screened marble tile. White porcelain subway tiles frame the feature. The biggest and possibly the most appreciated change to the space was when we opened the wall from the kitchen into the dining room to connect the disjointed spaces. Now the family has experienced a new appreciation for their home. Rooms which were previously storage areas and now integrated into the family lifestyle. The open space is so conducive to entertaining visitors frequently just "drop in”. In the dining area, we designed custom cabinets complete with a window seat, the perfect spot for additional diners or a perch for the family cat. The tall cabinets store all the china and crystal once stored in a back closet. Now it is always ready to be used. The last repurposed space is now home to a refreshment center. Cocktails and coffee are easily stored and served convenient to the kitchen but out of the main cooking area. How do they feel about their new space? It has changed the way they live and use their home. The remodel has created a new environment to live, work and play at home. They could not be happier.

Such was the case when Bilotta designer Goran Savic and Interior designer, Catherine Ebert’s mutual client announced that design and an expansive feeling should be prioritized over the prevailing “more storage” maxim. Although the kitchen was opened up to afford a view of the beautiful sculptural staircase, cabinetry was limited to a modest “L”-shaped footprint with an island. But not just any island: curved cabinetry in cherry that references the curves of the staircase and its cherry newel post and railing. While the rounded shape doesn’t contribute much to storage, it provides plenty of room for seating and definitely makes a strong design statement. More seating can be found in the comfy cushioned banquette (with storage drawers below). That’s a perfect spot to grab breakfast or even read a book. The unique piece here is the custom table at the banquette. Its beveled oval cherry base and double stainless-steel column supports are evocative of a luxury Art Deco yacht and echo the curved island. Goran utilized a number of space-enlarging visual devices as part of his design arsenal. Open shelving and glass upper sections on the wall cabinets prevent the frequent claustrophobic effect of all solid doors. Installing the wall cabinets higher than usual created a larger backsplash that helps offset the normal feeling of countertop clutter. Of course, nothing opens up a room like the inclusion of abundant natural light, but choice of materials also plays a huge role. Here we have a bleached stain on the wood floor, white cabinets, pale-colored countertops and backsplash tiles, and clear glass pendants, all of which enhance the airiness of this stunning new room.

This long narrow laundry room was transformed into amazing storage for a family with 3 baseball playing boys. Lots of storage for sports equipment and shoes and a beautiful dedicated laundry area.

While the rounded shape doesn’t contribute much to storage, it provides plenty of room for seating and definitely makes a strong design statement. More seating can be found in the comfy cushioned banquette (with storage drawers below). That’s a perfect spot to grab breakfast or even read a book. The unique piece here is the custom table at the banquette. Its beveled oval cherry base and double stainless-steel column supports are evocative of a luxury Art Deco yacht and echo the curved island. Goran utilized a number of space-enlarging visual devices as part of his design arsenal. Open shelving and glass upper sections on the wall cabinets prevent the frequent claustrophobic effect of all solid doors. Installing the wall cabinets higher than usual created a larger backsplash that helps offset the normal feeling of countertop clutter. Of course, nothing opens up a room like the inclusion of abundant natural light, but choice of materials also plays a huge role. Here we have a bleached stain on the wood floor, white cabinets, pale-colored countertops and backsplash tiles, and clear glass pendants, all of which enhance the airiness of this stunning new room.

When the owner first moved into this property, the backyard was overwhelming and underused. He wanted to create a space for easy, frequent entertaining. The first step was a large pool & guest house built perpendicular to the main house to create a private, semi-enclosed courtyard. Next we designed and constructed an over-sized rectangular swimming pool & spa with minimal interior features and extensive lighting so that the size of the pool would become the focal point of the outdoor living space. To create a soothing oasis for our busy bicoastal client, like we did for her Bay Area residence, we took cues from her petite NYC apartment’s architectural features and floor to ceiling windows as a foundational starting point for a luxurious interior design upgrade boasting brilliant décor and personality. And to make the space have a similar feel to her San Francisco home, Décor Aid’s interior designer Victoria C. set about to create the same sense of comfort and consistency that we did for her first project with us. Centered around her modern art collection, our client wanted a modern, fun, comfortable, and casual interior design upgrade for her apartment that boasted a light and airy feel along with a pulled-together sense of everyday urban glamor. From room to room, Victoria’s main objective was to create a quick budget-friendly turnaround with furnishings that were neither too precious or required custom construction – everything needed to be ready on the go as you can imagine for a client with such a heavy, frequent commute. For the living room, a transitional sectional in a rich purple hue was brought in for an easy sense of relaxed drama, was finished with pillows in complimentary jewel tones, and punctuated with a graphic cubist wall hanging featuring tonal shades of matte and muted gold. In order to break away from the rooms angular lined furnishings, a rounded glass-topped coffee table was sourced to also make the living room appear larger than it is. And a white sculptural Eames chaise was introduced as a conversation starter and juxtaposition to the indulgent color scheme of the other furnishings. For the den, Victoria placed a playful boldly hued collaged wall hanging above a somewhat traditional gray couch to emphasize a non-fussy approach to the room’s décor. While a modern rustic shelving unit was introduced to do triple duty as an entertainment center, a mini-library, and a spot to highlight decorative objects and collectibles.
