Before we remodeled this space, the kitchen cabinetry had a deep-dark stain, standard builder finishes, and could use a little makeover. Overall, the space lacked excitement, finesse, and good layout. So, in order to maximize the space to its full potential, we incorporated a new kitchen island which would give the space more storage, counter space, and we could include a wine unit! Win-win! Plus, the existing cabinetry on the perimeter was in great condition, so we could refinish those and have a little more fun with the other finishes of the space. Want to see what we did? Take a look below! Cabinetry As mentioned above, the cabinetry on the perimeter was refinished with white paint. The new island we installed cabinetry from WWWoods Shiloh, with a Heritage door style, and a finish of Arctic paint. Countertops The countertops feature a beautiful 3 cm Caesarstone Quartz in Symphony Grey. We also incorporated a waterfall on the edge, adding that extra element of design. Backsplash From the Glazzio Gemstone Series, we installed a Glacier Onyx 3” x 12” as the main backsplash tile and on the backside of the island. As a picture frame over the sink, we installed a Daltile Contempo White Polished marble pencil rail, with a Daltile Carrara White 1”x random marble Mosaic inside the frame. Fixtures From Blanco we have installed a Quatrus R0 Super Single Bowl sink, and a BLANCOCULINA semiprofessional kitchen faucet in satin nickel. The hardware cabinetry is the It Pull in Modern Bronze from Atlas. Flooring The new flooring is a hardwood oak, that’s been sanded and finished.

Just for fun, lights can go from white to total color saturation with the press of a button on a keypad or iDevice app. Motorized blackout shades for the window and sliding doors are used for daylight control. 16 foot wide shelves are intimately backlit with stairs providing some safety lighting for the back row theater goers. The breathtaking ocean views influenced the dramatic redesign of this water-front Poipu condo. The outdated condo was completely remodeled to allow full appreciation of the surrounding views, bring in a fresh new color palette, and modernize and update everything from the electrical wiring to the new luxury bath towels. The clients wanted the condo to feel “fun, happy, and cheerful,” and to stand apart from the typical vacation rental on Kauai. They wanted to turn this condo into the ultimate “beach house” that felt just as luxurious as the gorgeous natural surroundings. Fresh white ship-lap walls set the backdrop for this modern beach style, which is further enhanced with bold stripes, natural textures, and ocean-themed decor. The palette of cobalt, aqua and lichen green is fresh and vibrant against the neutral backdrop. Trina Turk’s “Peacock Print” was the inspiration fabric for the living and dining room. The print is so lively, colorful, and modern, and was the perfect place to start. Every custom detail was thoughtfully chosen to bring a sense of luxury and originality to the space. While some elements are whimsical, such as the playful octopus art & fish-themed fabric, other elements are sophisticated and classic, to help keep the design grounded. Special features include a custom-made “Moroccan Fish Scale” tile backsplash in the kitchen, crushed marble counter tops with oyster shells and float glass, and blue glass pendant lights, reminiscent of water bubbles.

The common room is eclectic and fun. The table can be used for informal meals or snacks, in-ceiling speakers can play music from streaming media equipment located out of sight. Lighting can be controlled and adjusted from a mobile app or dimmers on the walls.

The homeowners didn't like having to use multiple apps to control differnt functions, so all aspects of the home's entertainment sustem are controlled on one system, Depending on the type of party they are throwing--and even who is throwing the shindig--the home is ready to roll with the puches. The "Dinner Party" scene cues up different lighting, music, and HVAC settings based on whether it is a ladies' night of a guys' night, or if the couple is entertaining together, Custom buttons on the keypads around the home let them choose which scene to set, and the LEDs even change colors to let them know which party scene is playing. Brilliant!

Details: A pull-out pantry upper cabinet provides for handy storage of vitamins and supplements, allowing them to now be off the counters. An appliance garage with its fold-away door provides a spot to store often-used items. At right, the microwave sits at a readily accessible level on the counter, below a deeper than normal cabinet (to better surround the oven), per the client’s request.
