This radical remodeling was for a bachelor orthodontist. He chose the house, built in the early 50's, because it was a great site overlooking a wide bay. It also had a good head start due to its high sloping ceiling which allowed the second floor master bedroom to open to the living room below. He wanted a free-flowing house . . . . uncluttered, open and casual. Exterior form was created by boxing down from existing roof overhangs, which also carried into the interiors. Diagonal cedar shiplap boards clad vertical surfaces inside and out. The sloping ceiling is also cedar. The former Florida room became an activity area with a billiard table, bar, dining and an open kitchen. A swimming pool and multilevel decks were added as an extension of the activity area. The new entrance became a landscaped garden accessed by a bridge over a pond. With a massive island as the centerpiece; this kitchen is contemporary in style, modern in technology, and is designed for comfort for the whole family. The door style is Carlisle Slab in Maple by Echelon Cabinetry in two tones. The upper cabinetry finish is Alpine White and the lowers are in Onyx. The island and surrounding countertops are quartz in Brittanicca by Cambria. In the island is the super single undermount Blanco sink with a Moen faucet. The island also houses a programmable 48 bottle built-in wine fridge. A new state of the art 48-inch GE Monogram stove with four burners, a griddle, a grill, and one and a half ovens was added. A new french door refrigerator with a bottom freezer slide out was added as well. The homeowners opted for under and above cabinet lighting to not only light the countertop work space but to also light her favorite pieces displayed above the cabinets. This is a great greenhouse for any hobby gardener who wants to get a head start on the growing season. The greenhouse is constructed with 4mm clear polycarbonate sheeting that contains UV protection on the exterior side in order to protect from the sun's harmful rays. The 2 foot wide door is on a sliding frame and the greenhouse includes a vent in the roof for ventilation. The greenhouse is constructed with a T5 galvanized steel frame base.

The cast iron farm sink found a new home in the spacious island, flanked by two dishwashers for ultimate convenience. Initially designed as a dry bar, an overseas trip inspired our clients to upgrade to a wet bar. After experiencing the joy of sparkling water in Europe, they decided to bring this feature home. The custom-built Grohe faucet was added to provide non-sparkling and sparkling water options, thanks to a carbonated canister cleverly hidden under the sink. To add a touch of warmth and continuity, we incorporated floating shelves made of cherry wood, stained to match the new dining room table. This not only ties the spaces together but also adds a unique design element to the wet bar area. A pocket door leading to the mudroom and back entry, originally added in the 2006 remodel, was kept, and a custom-built dog door made of wood and metal rods was integrated. Now, the dogs can stay in the back entry yet still be part of the family action. New windows and sliding glass doors were installed to provide breathtaking views of the lush landscape and a stunning blue stone patio with a fireplace, seamlessly connecting the interior to the outdoors. Texas Mountain Laurel This beautiful Texas native can be used as a shrub or a small tree. Plants produce lustrous oval leaves that are evergreen. The glossy foliage is complemented by clusters of highly fragrant purple blooms in spring. While this is a slow growing plant, they eventually can grow up to 35-feet tall; however you typically find them in the 15-foot range in urban environments. Get a head start by planting as large of a specimen as you can find. Plant in a sunny location with good soil drainage, in USDA Zones 8 or warmer.
