When we embarked on designing this Santa-Barbara style townhome located on Craig Ranch’s prestigious 17th green, we immediately started visualizing the modern improvements we would make to reflect the clients’ true style. Lighting throughout the home was first on the list, then came floor coverings, wall coverings, and furnishings! Introducing brighter colors, modern frames, and bold patterns were key to balance out the heavier dark wood elements of both the home’s original architecture and some of the client’s existing pieces. This complete basement renovation transformed a dated and visually crowded lower level into a bright, modern, and functional extension of the home. The original space featured an older drop ceiling, dark wood cabinetry, a large brick fireplace surround, and finishes that made the basement feel enclosed. Our work focused on creating a cleaner layout, improving the sense of light and openness, and delivering a more comfortable space for everyday family living. The renovated basement now features light-toned flooring, fresh neutral walls, clean white trim, updated recessed lighting, and a modern fireplace feature wall with crisp shiplap detailing. Removing the heavier finishes helped create a more balanced focal point while giving the entire room a brighter and more contemporary feel. The grey trend has evolved in the last twelve months. Nowadays browns, beige and a touch of grey are in demand. Greige is the new buzzword. Heavier hand scraped or contoured products, the rage that started around 2005 has taken a back seat in most areas, while a softer wire brushed "ceruse effect" seen mostly on White Oak has been remarkably strong showing no effects of becoming “dated” like the others mentioned. Ceruse Color Possibilities There are numerous color combinations to the "cerused" process with the most popular being white or off white. This design trend in hardwood flooring can have darker gray white oak with a mild ceruse off white effect. There are limitless possibilities in either a prefinished hardwood floor or with what we can create for you in a custom on-site finished hardwood floor. For those who enjoy the finer things in life, this home office has an old world feel with clean lines that offers a beautiful modern twist to this classic beauty. The bold wallpaper and fabric bulletin board create a striking focal point for the semi-custom desk and hutch. The contrasting finishes provide an inviting, yet dramatic air, welcoming the distinguished person who has stories to share of grand experiences and travel. Details such as the federal leg and heavier applied moldings on the doors imbed the feel of fine furniture into the cabinetry.
