This Woodland Home, built in 1946, had beautiful charm from the exterior but needed more love on the inside. The lack of storage in the kitchen, a dark family room and underutilized attic space led them to remodel the rest of the home. In the kitchen, walls were removed between the breakfast nook and kitchen and existing windows relocated and enlarged to maximize natural light. The cased opening into the dining was widened allowing better flow for serving dinner guests. Installing new hardwoods in the kitchen created a cohesive floorplan. Willow Gray cabinets installed to the ceiling, heightened the room and gave the homeowners much needed storage space. Bianco Ararus Granite and classic subway backsplash with dark grout added a finishing touch. A large cased opening was created between the family room and existing sunroom. New aluminum clad casement windows and large French door unit was installed which enhanced the natural light throughout the space. Window sashes were replaced on the lower level of the home. The existing attic stairs with heavy, worn carpet were rebuilt to widen as much as possible. New oak stair treads were installed and finished, tying into the original hardwood flooring throughout the main level. Black iron railing gives the illusion of more space while adding simple elegance. The attic, once used for storage, was updated with new windows, luxury vinyl plank flooring and cabinetry for seasonal clothing storage. Before purchasing their early 20th-century Prairie-style home, perfect in so many ways for their growing family, the parents asked LiLu whether its imperfections could be remedied. Specifically, they were sad to leave a kid-focused happy home full of color, pattern, texture, and durability thanks to LiLu. Could the new house, with lots of woodwork, be made brighter and lighter? Of course. In the living areas, LiLu selected a high-gloss turquoise paint that reflects light for selected cabinets and the fireplace surround; the color complements original handmade blue-green tile in the home. Graphic floral and abstract prints, and furnishings and accessories in lively shades of pink, were layered throughout to create a bright, playful aesthetic. Elsewhere, staircase spindles were painted turquoise to bring out their arts-and-craft design and heighten the abstract wallpaper and striped runner. Wallpaper featuring 60s-era superheroes, metallic butterflies, cartoon bears, and flamingos enliven other rooms of the house. In the kitchen, an orange island adds zest to cream-colored cabinets and brick backsplash. This ranch type home underwent a whole house transformation, giving it a classic-California Mediterranean blend. The exterior was given a heightened look with El Dorado Stone accents. New entry walls were crafted and lined with sweet water flagstone to coordinate with the stone walkways. Walking through the native landscaping layered with a vast array of indigenous succulents provides a delightful flow to the custom arched entry door by Jeld Wen. The existing driveway has been replaced in favor of new concrete pavers supplied by Belgard, which contrast beautifully with a light yet muted smooth troweled stucco. The sense of connection between indoor and outdoor spaces is heightened by a large, multi-panel sliding door system spanning the full width of the main living spaces. The outdated kitchen was relocated adjacent to the new door system, flowing into a spacious great room overlooking new landscaping. This Vienna home's main level received a total transformation from our MOSS team. The front entrance was opened with the shift of the powder room to the back of the home. The dining room, previously the living room, was updated with beautiful craftmanship on the walls. The original dining room was removed and the kitchen expanded into its place to create an open flowing room (and the creation of a new walk-in pantry with re-used cabinets!). The new family room, formerly a carport/four season room, had its floor heightened and matched to the rest of the main level and updated with beautiful built-ins. The concept for this project was to reveal the sensation of an active, living landscape in flux and echo the vitality and energy of the wetland that comprises much of this rural site. A mosaic of shifting concrete slabs, set in a field of limestone bands and chip seal, flows through screens of bamboo, set in motion by the slightest breeze. The implied motion of the ground plane blurs the boundary where the terrace and parking court meet, serving the dual purpose of expanded entertaining area or overflow parking during large gatherings. The clipped formal hedge that folds around the house and delineates the lawn stands in stark opposition to the unrestrained hemlock forest that envelops the property, heightening the contrast between the two. The shifting planes of the boardwalk entrance connects these volumes, defining the primary visual and functional axes of the site. Scott Carman

In this one bedroom apartment, rich blue panels were installed as a headboard. A rug almost completely covers the carpeted flooring. Two end tables were added, with doors, as night stands. My client loves books and the shelving serves better than drawers in this case. The beautiful pair of marble lamps heighten the timeless look of this room's design with round gold mirrors in the background.
