This entry way makes a bold statement right when you walk through the doors. The bookshelves are filled with family keepsakes and natural greenery. The homeowner of this new build came to us for help with the design of their new home. They wanted a more contemporary look than what they're used to. The large island is a great gathering point with in the open concept of the dining/kitchen/living space. Using two different colors of quartz countertops added contrast that highlights the marble backsplash. The backsplash adds texture and richness to the space. Shaker style cabinets help modernize the space with the clean lines. Function was key to this kitchen working with utensil pullouts, spice racks, rollouts, hidden storage and a knife block. Design Connection, Inc. Kansas City interior designer provided space planning, architectural drawings, barstools, tile, plumbing fixtures, countertops, cabinets and hardware, lighting, paint colors, coordination with the builder and project management to ensure that the high standards of Design Connection, Inc. were maintained.

Contrast is the key to this gorgeous transitional family room. Soft greige walls are in contrast with the platinum silk draperies and charcoal sofa. Custom lounge chairs in gold ikat add a touch of glamour to this formal living space. Modern art keeps it fresh and fun.

We love helping people streamline their possessions by helping them make decisions about what to keep. One carload at a time, we take things to charity. Or, if it's a huge project we arrange a pick-up. We usually do this prior to the move; however, we can also do it as we unpack and put their items away. It's great to start fresh when you move!

There are many types of mulching material available today for your landscape beds. However, it's wise to ask where the mulch your contractor is going to use is from, and more importantly what it is made of. With modern day equipment, producers of mulch can grind up practically any wood material available to them, from landscape debris, to tree stumps and pallets; all if it can go into the grinder and come out as mulch. If you have a large area that does not have sensitive plant material present, this may be a fine choice given that the cost of this type of mulch is usually very low. If however you are looking for a more uniform and plant friendly material, look for a double shredded hardwood bark mulch. This type of mulch is more fibrous and will knit together better than a wood chip mulch. This will help keep it in place longer, and provide a better weed barrier and moisture control blanket for your plants.

The opposite wall in the living room features a wet bar that includes two full-sized wine refrigerators, sink, storage cabinets, and shelving, as well as plenty of open floor space to entertain. The tall dark blue painted cabinetry helps to visually balance the room, as a large, bold design element opposite the fireplace wall. The inlaid brass detail on the cabinet doors adds a touch of glamour to this more formal space. The focal point of the wet bar is the illuminated book-matched marble backsplash with custom floating brass and glass shelves.
