Chi Renovation & DesignWhen our client shared their vision for their two-bathroom remodel in Uptown, they expressed a desire for a spa-like experience with a masculine vibe. So we set out to create a space that embodies both relaxation and masculinity.
Allow us to introduce this masculine master bathroom—a stunning fusion of functionality and sophistication. Enter through pocket doors into a walk-in closet, seamlessly connecting to the muscular allure of the bathroom.
The boldness of the design is evident in the choice of Blue Naval cabinets adorned with exquisite Brushed Gold hardware, embodying a luxurious yet robust aesthetic. Highlighting the shower area, the Newbev Triangles Dusk tile graces the walls, imparting modern elegance.
Complementing the ambiance, the Olivia Wall Sconce Vanity Lighting adds refined glamour, casting a warm glow that enhances the space's inviting atmosphere. Every element harmonizes, creating a master bathroom that exudes both strength and sophistication, inviting indulgence and relaxation. Additionally, we discreetly incorporated hidden washer and dryer units for added convenience.

Consider the elements: an English conservatory-style kitchen. A Bahamian plantation-inspired bedroom. Florentine palazzos, Swiss chalets, Lowcountry fishing huts – all informed our journey from broad concept to unified, cohesive actuality. First and foremost a home meant to cosset and comfort an active family, it is also an elegant and gracious example of the many handcrafted arts too seldom seen. From custom ceiling treatments to hand-woven rugs, evidence of the artist’s hand abounds, imparting exquisite detail on virtually each and every surface. Nestled waterside along shimmering shores, this home is truly a dream come true – and proof the fanciful notions of the heart can indeed be transformed into functional living spaces that nurture, inspire, and satisfy the soul.

I chose lighting fixtures that created patterns that mimic the way the sun causes light to reflect off the lake. I wanted the furniture to impart a real sense of sophisticated warmth and style, without compromising function. The home has an elegantly casual feel that’s eclectic, as if it has been assembled over a long period of life experiences.

Axis Mundi | SFNever judge a book by its cover they say. Axis Mundi takes that adage seriously. The circa 1920s facades of these townhouses by Percy Griffin may read neo-Georgian. But behind the door of this particular residence, glass and oak are paired to impart a warm contemporary aesthetic that better showcases the client’s collections of art by Andy Warhol, Arman, Robert Longo, Alex Katz and Lucio Fontana, and furniture by modernist icons Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand and Roland Rainer. Axis Mundi gutted the genteel, compartmentalized (read: dark) inner scheme, blowing it wide open to impart a new loft-like interior architecture outfitted with an exposed oak-and-Caesarstone kitchen and plenty of integrated, clutter-concealing custom storage along many walls. The glass—sandblasted on Poliform doors and a main-floor bridge, then descending in transparent railings along a new oak staircase to a garden level—invite light in and encourage it to ricochet freely throughout.

Stellar Remodeling & CabinetryThis Fair Oaks kitchen felt small and dark. Removing the dropped ceiling and adding new windows created a bright open kitchen and allowed the homeowners to enjoy their beautiful backyard. White-painted Schrock cabinets provided more storage and functionality. Beautiful new quartzite countertops and iridescent backsplash tile, to the ceiling, imparts elegance and sophistication. The Versaille pattern stone floor, throughout the bottom floor completes the renovation.

CJ Paone AIA | Archipelago WorkshopA charred wood plank wall defines the drought-tolerant garden of a Ventura, CA bungalow. We used the ancient Japanese method of shou-sugi-ban, which rendered the reclaimed cedar (traditionally Japanese cypress) fire, rot and pest resistant while imparting a striking black, slightly iridescent finish that’s both modern and low maintenance.

UserThis residence had been recently remodeled, with the exception of two of the bathrooms. Michael Merrill Design Studio enlarged the downstairs bathroom, which now has a spa-like atmosphere. It serves pool guests as well as house guests. Over-scaled tile floors and architectural glass tiled walls impart a dramatic modernity to the space. Note the polished stainless steel ledge in the shower niche. A German lacquered vanity and a Jack Lenor Larsen roman shade complete the space.
Upstairs, the bathroom has a much more organic feel, using a shaved pebble floor, linen textured vinyl wall covering, and a watery green wall tile. Here the vanity is veneered in a rich walnut. The residence, nestled on 20 acres of heavily wooded land, has been meticulously detailed throughout, with new millwork, hardware, and finishes. (2012-2013);

UserBringing the outdoors in and letting ample light flood the room, this window back splash was the perfect opportunity to do so. Stainless Steel undermounted sinks allow a clean look next to the white easy to clean quartz counter top. A built up flamed black absolute granite adds texture and creates an informal eat-in kitchen space.

Boston Design and Interiors, Inc.For a newly built contemporary home, Donna Terry embraced a modern aesthetic. Pattern was used in this home but pared down to checkerboard, squares and circles, an aesthetic often used by the Vienna Workshops. The use of geometric form was tempered with the purposeful use of spirals and curves to impart a less harsh and more feminine quality to the design. This home's dining room won a Design Award from the International Furnishing and Design Association and Design New England.

Deborah Martin DesignsA collaborative effort with The Creative Edge, Inc., the renovation of this East Hills kitchen resulted in a culinary masterpiece featuring every amenity expected in a luxury home of this caliber. Exotic granite countertops, mixed backsplash materials and the same large format tile used in the entry foyer are counterpoised with custom soft furnishings that include a nail head embellished cornice, upholstered Swaim dining chairs and the island's faux ostrich bar stools. The round glass-topped table with its bronze metal and stone sculptural base imparts gallery flair. Shimmering translucent diffusers in the trio of brilliantly accented LED pendants suspended from an S-shaped monorail track gently diffuse light through distinctive anodized glossy black fins. The Italian hand-blown milk glass pendant over the kitchen sink gets its sparkle from clear and black octagonal crystals stacked casually at its base.
