The house is an imposing symmetrical shingle style structure, the gambrel roofs connecting the design to traditional shingle style homes built as summer retreats in the 1920's.

It is not uncommon for the scope of work to change during a project. This is often the result of deficiencies in the framing or foundation. For this project, the changes were a result of uncovering original elements of the building and the clients desire to honor and celebrate this history. I realized that the gallery, the great hallway at the center of the home, is really the nexus of the project. After completing demolition, we discovered steel I-beams in slightly different locations than the building blue print suggested and some beautiful wire cut brick facades. Rather than imposing the first design on new conditions, our client and the design team recognized the potential.

Showcasing a delicate balance of textures and materials, this corner of the bedroom radiates serene sophistication. The imposing ceramic light contrasts elegantly with the rustic slate wall, while the wooden bedside table adorned with fresh florals adds a touch of warmth and organic beauty. The plush headboard and bedding promise comfort and luxury, inviting relaxation.

Sometimes the unique challenges of a site dictate almost everything about the end design. This European-inspired mountain retreat is one classic example. Perched atop a ridge, the buildable area was long but very narrow. A single axial line connects from the initial approach straight through the house and shoots to the view of mountains at the far end. The architecture of the home was envisioned to feel like an old French monastery-turned-family-home which has been restored and added to over several centuries. It is a place of solace and introspection, where the repetition of stone in house and landscape feels imposing, yet safe. Lush plantings line the sun-soaked parking court and dot the back terrace areas, creating delicate play of light and movement. A stepped water rill between terrace levels completes the atmosphere with its soothing babble.

Plantings frame the front entry. The clients of this project desired a cohesive landscape where neighborhood children could gather and play and adults could also congregate for large parties. A pool and paved drive court provide multiple areas for play while a raised terrace allows for supervision as well as separation. Although the circulation was driven by the needs of the children, it does not impose on the adult spaces. The landscape provides enjoyment for the whole family in a safe and beautiful environment.

Zoning regulations imposed a major constraint: demolishing the original structure would have drastically reduced the allowable square footage for new construction. As a result, the design was developed entirely within the existing foundation. What could have been a limitation became a catalyst for innovation. The new structure was intentionally secondary to the main house, maintaining a clear hierarchy while expanding spatial and functional possibilities. The lots are now joined and the driveway services both structures

Existing house facade was dominated by a 2nd story porch, which gave the house an imposing appearance, and an entrance that was not well defined. The proposed solution called for pilasters accentuating the entrance, and enhanced detailing in other key areas around the house for a balanced composition.

Two sections of hand hewn white oak barn beam — shaped by adze in the late 19th or early 20th century, the tool marks clearly visible on every face — support a thick oak plank top from the same material source. The adze marks are not decorative. They are the record of a specific person doing specific work at a specific moment in American agricultural history. This material exists in finite and diminishing supply as the barns that held it continue to come down. The form is deliberately restrained. Nothing competes with the material. Proportions were determined by the beams themselves — their weight, their scale, their presence — rather than imposed from outside. This style - is the very embodiment of dynamics, expression, and pounding vital energy. A neatly chosen game of contrasts can achieve an interesting visual effect in this interior. For example, for decorating the room, you can choose warm, soft, muted colors: sandy, terracotta, pale, the color of melted milk, ochre, or wood bark. Against this background, the items of decor, curtains, and drapery of saturated hues will look very impressive: scarlet or lemon-yellow finishing cloth of upholstered furniture, orange fixtures, and motley carpets with characteristic ornaments. Expansive glass facades bring the mountains inside. The softly arched steel roof follows the rhythm of the rolling hills. The light from the LEDs of Chantal suspension lamp reminds us of the movement of waves and the transparency of the moment when they dwindle, they dematerialise diffusing interminable drops of brightness. Chantal is available in 3 different sizes (from 36 cm in diameter in the smaller version to the 66 of the large, passing through the intermediate version of 50 cm) all available in white, orange and blue.

The dimension of the openings and the porches were thoroughly calculated to be exact to allow solar gain during winter and provide ideal shadow during summer. The use of green ecological extended roof give continuity to the vegetation that surrounds the house besides giving thermal balance to the interior, opening the space to natural light and allowing the gain through direct sun light. Controlled ventilation is a important strategy to passive cooling of the internal environment of the building, that helps keeping a healthy and comfortable environment for the occupants, without energetic costs. this strategy consists in the change between internal and external air. The electricity is provided by the installation of PhotoVoltaic panels and the domestic water and swimming pool will be made through thermal solar system. The construction is made with sustainable ecological materials providing a total integration of the building in the landscape.

Senator table is a large and imposing glass table that catches the eye like a true artistic sculpture. The glass top extends 4 Metres in an irregular shape with rounded corners.
